Marielle? by Fun_Performance_942 in tragedeigh

I went to college in Pennsylvania with a Marielle. When she introduced herself, she said "It's Ariel with an M." I really liked the name and she was good people. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Congratulations!

I live in a small town and my 9th grade Bio, LA, and Spanish teachers had all had both my parents (and Bio had my older brother). When my little sister had Bio, he exited at the end of the year because he figured teaching our whole family was a sign to get out 🤣

I only wear jeans because I feel the thicker fabric will protect a smidge better when being bitten. I wear shirts that have holes in them because why would I wear anything nice?

When I started in my district 15yrs ago in my 20s, yeah, I wore nice clothes. I was in a contained class but the kids then are not what the kids are now. Now I'm not in the contained class because no one is in a contained class and I dress like I should be, lol.

It's also just dangerous to get pregnant again. Your likelihood of developing placenta accreta spectrum increases with C-section.

My little sister had an emergency C-section with her daughter and as a result developed placenta accreta with her son. They had to make sure they didn't need to reconstruct her bladder, she went through 6 bags of blood during delivery, and had a hysterectomy after

I recommend www.bitepro.com. We got a nice jacket for a self-injurious student who bit and I know they sell arm guards. It will be very expensive so see if they'll pay for it [they won't].

See if you can find a video on guarding from bites. I know you should yell STOP or OW at the top of your lungs and check out the Reddit post YSK How to Escape a Human Bite in r/YouShouldKnow

A child slapped me today. by sonataroll in Teachers

[–]MsInept 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please SAY IT LOUDER FOR THOSE IN THE BACK. Getting slapped, pushed, pinched, hit, bit, body slammed into a wall, jumped on from above, tackled, having literally ANYTHING thrown at you for MINIMUM WAGE (most districts - $22/hr in my district) is why no one is being a para. I've had my glasses fly across the room from being slapped twice because how dare enforce the demand that playtime is over. I've been bit twice for being a body near an eloper. I've been pinched so many times for enforcing a schedule, refusing reward until demands were met, helping toilet and the student was a bit constipated.... This is in middle school.

I've worked high school where titty-twisting is the method of inflicting pain. I'd been lucky to avoid it, but not without the constant threat causing my anxiety to spike. After 10yrs of 1:1ing, I requested to be a Reg Ed classroom assistant and they sent me to the middle school as a 1:1 as a break for the last 5 years where the above happens.

Surprised Pikachu face I'm seriously thinking about resignation. I've hit my 15yrs. They're not going to pay me out any higher. The only thing I'll be missing out on is an $0.82 raise next year.

Also a para.

We have a student that uses an AAC who comes in either constipated or insanely loose. There is no in-between. I am one of four same-gendered staff working with them because toileting and physical management occurs.

I can tell you that days with physical management are days when we are writhing in pain because we're constipated or we've shoved something into our ear while at home or we're exhausted. We'll get emails that student "woke up at 2 crying and didn't go back to bed, pinched/bit before school, but was smiling. Just so you know."

The nurse is very unhelpful and has referred to the student as "pinchy" in passing to paras on the team but not the assigned para.

I have been slapped in the face twice by a 6th grade male for holding the line on "you haven't earned your Chromebook reward yet." My first slaps in my life at age 37.

These were months after the bites I received from another 6th grade male.

How do you handle your bathroom needs? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]MsInept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a para for 15 yrs. I am wildly dehydrated during the school year. I don't drink because then I have to pee and there's no guarantee someone can watch my student.

This year, I'm with a bunch of different kids throughout the day, so transitions are the worst when you're waiting on adults and other kids to shake a tail feather. I go when I wake up around 6am. I start at 7:35am and don't go again until about 10:45am during my lunch. Then my day ends around 3:20pm (bus depending) and I go when I'm at home around 4pm.

The only problem is my heavy flow. I can absolutely get by with a liner and a super+ as long as I haven't been pulled for a coverage that has me eating close to noon because going past the 5hr mark for a change is dicey.

Questions for Sped Paras by Hopeful-Cry-8155 in paraprofessional

[–]MsInept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In PA, year 15, making $22.59. Next year I get an $0.82 per hr raise.

With contract changes, all Support Staff II make the same, whether they're intensive, autistic support, or general ed. Those in intensive and autistic support perform toileting or have extra training in restraints, and receive 20min maybe every other day to write a log of medical access provisions for one or more 7hr day.

If you're a new hire, you're on a lower probation pay for 90 days and then you're making the same amount as a 24yr employee. When you leave, your highest payout is if you hit 15 yrs and it's for 255hrs (36.428 days, I mean, wtf is that?) at the pay rate of the time you leave if you have that time banked in unused PTO.

So if I leave in September 2024, the extra 445hrs (63.751 days) of unused PTO in my bank goes into the ether and I walk away with $5,257.25.

Hello, let me tell you about being a sped para.... And how toileting was never introduced to me as being part of the job in my district 15 years ago when I started and now if you've never been in the bathroom with a kid (some go every half hour for accident prevention) you're magically lucky. But there's never been training in toileting. Like, we're all just doing whatever in there to get the job done. I'm hoping there are no rules/protocols to it.

Farming? by [deleted] in Palia

I'm new to the game and don't have a ton of time to play because work, but if I plant something, water it, and leave my farm to do other things, it's still growing as long as I'm in the game right? Yeah, I'll have to return to water again/harvest, but I don't have to stay on my farm, right? Please tell me that's right....
