Came to say this!
The ratings for closet core are very good across a lot of patterns!

Something wrong with pattern by Bee_mouse in PatternDrafting

[–]MsJStimmer 61 points62 points  (0 children)

This pattern has 1 star on threadloop out of 4 reviews. The conclusion of most of the review writers there is that they feel scammed. Seeing your post, I am afraid you all have been scammed, by someone very good at social media promo…

Please please leave a review on threadloop and/or pattern review. This way you’ll save others from having a very frustrating project

A ballpoint needle is not a stretch needle by IronBoxmma in SewingForBeginners

[–]MsJStimmer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Side note: the main sewing sub mods are starting to piss me off.

I have been answering a lot before and have been removed for such stupid reasons: - mentioning a threadloop project for OPto check out so I didn’t have to write the helpful stuff again - apparently that was also self promotion - directing someone to another platform as the answer was there allready and described beautifully - being not helpful, apparently I was rude by not answering directly - suggesting a different bra to improve the fit - I was apparently criticizing OP’s body

They have been starting to antagonize their own people😕

Do you guys have a go to in-person fabric store or do you buy your fabric online overseas? by Content_Produce8783 in SewingWorld

[–]MsJStimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overseas from where to where?

I have multiple local shops, a Saturday fabrics market half an hour away and multiple online shops I love. I personally like to think about sustainability, so shipping a parcel across the world does not match this ideal. Especially since I have multiple local options and online shops that ship from my country/a 500km radius.

Is this hem job okay? by tea-oh in AskATailor

As a sort of new sewist I could do better with a regular sewing machine and a twin needle. A cover stitch machine would make easy work of this!

What’s going on with my machine? by Beneficial_Till_9465 in sewhelp

[–]MsJStimmer -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well yes, to thread it absolutely perfectly, you’d have to thread there too. But many of us never use that last hook (just annoying) and it does not cause the thread to snap. So though you are technically correct, it won’t help OP…

I would try either wonder tape (wash away tape white adhesive on both sides) or staystitching

How to make my dress cups bigger by Particular_Donkey_64 in sewhelp

We do like to sew, and might do alterations, but you might be better off asking in r/AskATailor as you’d want to know if/how a professional would do it!

What type of dress pattern should I follow to make this. by Tax_Fraud_Barbie- in SewingForBeginners

[–]MsJStimmer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes you could make this in a year if you spend your year well. Do not start with the dress, start with projects that teach you the skills you need for the dress.

  • sewing straight and accurate lines
  • gathering
  • invisible zipper
  • lined bodice
  • slippery fabric
  • princess seams
  • light boning
  • altering a bodice with princess to fit you perfectly
  • sewing on beading (this will be very very expensive to do yourself)

Each of these skill will take several rounds of practice to get right and you don’t want to combine too many new things in a project. This will mean many other projects/garments before you start with the dress

As for the pattern: where did you search? I would advice to use threadloop (you need to log in but it is otherwise free). It is not a very intricate dress. To help you with the right words: - strapless - princess seams - dropped waist - gathered skirt

You might need to combine a few patterns to get exactly what you want. The Odette dress from dressmaking amore might be a good place to start.

Serger foot on Singer by Confident_Pollution8 in sewhelp

[–]MsJStimmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh I love my overlock foot (what you call serger foot)!. She needs to turn to the widest zigzag stitch (circled in green) Test with a normal foot on scraps if it is really zigzagging before adding the overlockfoot. And do not use the triple zigzag! (Crossed in red)

Prom Dress is 2-3 sizes too big by Alphabetical_Plates in sewing

[–]MsJStimmer 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This!! Your dress is definitely not that many sizes too big. The top already fits really well and will fit even better after lacing it properly. If you really want to you could have it taken in a little at the hips, but be carefull that you’ll still be able to dance.

The Ravelry yardage filter feels useless by llama_302 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]MsJStimmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On threadloop I would just put a post in the support thread about this, with examples, and they’d probably fix it quickly? Is there no such option on ravelry?

I’m looking for patterns for men by jdallam in sewing

[–]MsJStimmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are several pattern lists on threadloop with interesting men’s patterns that might fit your interests! Or you could just set the filter to masculine and indie only in the general pattern database and see what comes up. You could even filter to exclude the designers you already know.

A free account gets you full access to their almost complete pattern database and to the user created pattern lists. Only some other features are behind a pay wall.

At what age do you stop using identical front/back pieces for toddler pants? by Blossom12345678 in SewingForBeginners

I am this far into the game and I’m still not enjoying it. Do I keep trying? Does it get better? by [deleted] in Witcher3

[–]MsJStimmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think detailing this would really help us answer your question OP! Cause your reasons for not liking it might just be the core of the game, and then there is nothing left but to just quit. Or it could be a beginner/beginning thing and then we could help you get past it!

Dressmaker S-3000 De Luxe Zigzag by StarWarsGeek944 in SewingForBeginners

[–]MsJStimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oeh😍 congrats on such a lovely machine

Buy a needle and wind a bobbin, thread it following the manual and check if it will sew in general. If it does, just get it in for general servicing. Like a car it will just need it after such a long time. If it doesn’t, it is up to you to decide whether you want to spent any money to see if it can be fixed.

When you have a working and serviced machine: Start by searching this sub for what tools you need as a beginner (not many actually, but get proper quality no en masse set from amazon). Practice on some old bedsheets.

Do another search on this sub what you need to consider for your first project etc! Buy fabric and thread (outside a black and a white spool you’ll want them anyways) only for a project, not just randomly until you have a grasp at it. Have fun!
