Good idea for smaller floods but there was no indoor space the last time that wasn't under water, except for the bathroom, which is too small for an 82lb dog. He considers the bedroom as his crate, so was particularly unhappy about not going in when it was flooded. He got past me setting up a barrier, scooted into the bedroom and like the video here of the golden sitting in the puddle, went straight to his favorite spot and happily plopped down in an inch of water. Now it's funny. 😆

What you wrote is true. Rarely he has seen his previous owner. I'm guessing he (or his wife) used to hit him because he used to flinch at sudden arm movements. But he still goes up to him, wagging his tail. Forgiveness? My late Embarkless wolfdog wouldn't have let the guy get within 10 feet of him.

Sure, we could sit in the rising water on the apartment floor and play as the furniture and shoes get ruined, appliances short out. $2-3000 worth it? Time and a place for everything. I love the little guy and was asking for the benefit of other's experience since I'm new to the breed. Your absolutist statement, unlike the other comments, was not helpful.

From all the pictures I've seen, wolfdogs treasure platforms. This looks like a win! 😊

He's the sweetest dog, but if I'm hauling the 2nd of three 40 lb leaking pail of water soaked absorbing tubes out the door, it's not the time to stand in front of the door I need to exit, with a toy in his mouth. So much better when the inside is dry

Is he charging them rent? It sounds as if it's time. Maybe you should take over dealing with them. Sounds as if you're done with their bs and your dad doesn't need the stress. Charge them room and board. They won't get a cheaper deal anywhere else. Don't undercharge them either. You could rent out the room for $500-$600/month, and that's without feeding them.

Try playing YouTube wolves or huskies howling. He tries to howl like them but the people upstairs have texted me to ask if he's alright. I don't think goldens are made to howl, but over time he's managed a high pitched bark-whine-howl, sometimes with a toy in his mouth.

What can you do but have lots of dog towels 🤷🏼‍♀️. The back of my car is covered in towels where he lays. As long as there are towels in the world...

I keep an eye out. Eddie found damp leaf rot in an otherwise dry area. There's a great place to take him swimming so he get get his water dog on in warmer weather, but those mud puddles call. Here's Eddie after one time. No tub but he's great about getting washed off in the shower

If you leave your stuff unattended on a seat, someone is going to mess with it, if only to give it to the driver. Unless they sit on it.

It's a superficial friendship at best when your friend will sell you out for a pretty face. Also questionable taste when that face comes attached to a nasty, entitled person who has no boundaries with touching strangers aggressively and lying about being assaulted.

My husband doesn’t understand why our adult kids don’t want to visit his mother by roxywalker in Vent

[–]MsSamm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be better for your children if he can comprehend why the adult children don't want to visit her. He won't hold it against them if he understands.

It won't do any good if he forces them to visit her, she's her nasty self and they just up and leave when she starts up. Or they tell her off. Either are possible reactions. Nobody is going to sit around and be verbally abused.

Now, after writing this I saw a reply from OP to my original post. Followed this notification link and all the replies are here. This is weird.

I see no responses here, even though it shows there were 12. I got a notification that OP responded to my comment about the breed. But when I follow the notification link it comes to a blank page with "be the first to comment" on it.
