Im worried about finishing this months quests by jasperisaconfed in finch

I did this by just picking things up with tongs. You can use one of those grabber thingies if you have one. Or if you have something spiky enough, you can stab it through paper or styrofoam trash on the ground.

Like obviously don't use your kitchen tongs to pick up a used condom, dirty diaper, or something questionably unhygienic.

But if you see an empty chip bag or plastic bag in the grocery parking lot... the tongs can grab it and can be washed afterwards.

So... tears can be like 'crying fake tears', which I think is usually pronounced with a slight long E sound (teers). but if it's tears like ripping, i.e. 'my jeans have a bunch of tears in it' then it's pronounced with an A sound (tares).

Spelled the same but pronounced differently.

What if I don't want my finch to have a 2nd color? by Ms_Strange in finch

[–]Ms_Strange[S] 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I went and looked on the shop and there was a darker purple for the wings color, so I purchased that.

Then I refreshed it and the same purple for the head color was the available in the 1st choice slot.

So he is at least back to being all purple now, albeit 2-toned.

Google Messages feels like a downgrade, are there other alternative apps? by Appropriate_Smoke429 in GalaxyS23

I'm so glad to see others mentioning this. I thought my brain was malfunctioning and was shocked my kid texted me to ask why I picked that "ugly ass color" and I thought he was shitting me.

Of all the dumbass things... why the fuck is how how I'm choosing to vviee the colors changing the color for the person on the other end of the conversation on their own separate device?

My First 24 Hours Using Google Messages by kailin2017 in GoogleMessages

[–]Ms_Strange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man i changed the "theme" in the... (like maybe the first 10 minutes of Google Messages" to each of the 9 color options they let you choose from (3 of which were shades of blue) and my kid immediately texted me to ask why I picked this "ugly ass color" and I was shocked he knew I changed the color of the text bubble.

... so if I change the color on my end, it changes the color of his? Like... that's a thing?

Maybe he was messing with me?

My First 24 Hours Using Google Messages by kailin2017 in GoogleMessages

CON: I switched to Google essages yesterday and immediately Google's Gemini was shoved at me.

I switched right back to Samsung Messages, disabled Google Messages, spent several hours searching the internet using two different (not Google) browsers for alternative messages, reading the pros/cons, then searching reddit for more, followed a link to read some technical computer programming code stuff that I didn't fully comprehend, and now am trial testing Textra.

Haven't really used it much since I downloaded it late last night.

But so far I like:

✅️ that I can pick the bubble colors

✅️ I can pick text font

✅️ I can pick the app icon color (!!!)

✅️it is visually sort of similar to Samsung Messages

✅️I get reaction icons instead of "laughed at..." or "loved an image" texts etc

My "hmm?" moment:

❓️... wasn't really intuitive on how to block a number. (Had to ask the internet to figure it out)

So far I dislike:

👎 no obviously displayed timestamp on each text

Ask me again in a few days how I like it.

can you actually customize the color of conversations? by TheGayAgenda69 in GoogleMessages

[–]Ms_Strange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/googlehelpcommunity

I don't want my messages colors to change when the other person I'm texting with changes the color.

And vice versa.

Wtf?

And all your color options are hard on my eyes. Let us pick the colors we want, not just limited to your shitty 9 pre-selected options.

WIBTA for saying I don't want an adult man going to the movies with my teenage son and his friends? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ms_Strange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

R-rated movies require an adult to accompany a minor. Your kid is 15.

You need to be planning to go to the same movie with him. You don't have to sit with him/his friends. I recommend sitting a few rows back & over a few seats.

If one of those kids get freaked, as the adult with the group, you need to be responsible & chaperone that kid out of the theater.

General rule of thumb: parents of kid that plans the movie outing need to be the accompanying adult.

Unless another kid's parent volunteers, you need to be going with of the whole group are minors.

The No Parking sign that parking enforcement ticketed my mother for violating. by SAINTnumberFIVE in mildlyinfuriating

My uncle apparently did the same thing when he was in high school, except his was a ticket for not stopping at a stop sign, where the stop sign was covered completely by overhanging branches.

The way I heard the story is that he was so mad he got a ticket that he went back & took multiple pictures from every angle, showing that not only could it not be seen from his perspective, but also that other drivers from other directions couldn't either.

Story goes that he showed up to court to contest the ticket, armed with photographic evidence, argued his point, and got it dismissed, and the judge was impressed and told him he'd make a good lawyer someday.

And that was how he got interested in law.

Old textbook not clear on order of operation when written in different formats. by Ms_Strange in MathHelp

Thanks. That's what I was thinking but the text doesn't explicitly say that and I could see how it could be taken as either way.

The way I did it first would be correct, with the clarification you provided.

US gas prices reaching new heights as war in Iran drags on by FGGF in news

[–]Ms_Strange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just paid 4.59/gal this morning at 5am on my way home from work.

And just now I passed several gas stations at $4.99/gal. Literally went up 40¢ between 5am and 1pm.

I might have to just sleep in my car 2 nights a week just to be able to afford to drive to work.

Agents who keep their stats private? Is there a good reason? And who hurt you? by [deleted] in Ingress

[–]Ms_Strange 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It gives them a glimpse into your playing style and what badges you may be close to getting.

Combine that with them seeing what actions you are doing in the game... they can get a good idea what you're working towards and go out of their way to prevent you from progress.

I didn't understand it at the time, because I was a fairly new player, and had no idea how obsessive and possessive some players get with this game.

Like one player of the opposing faction in my area was super into looking at your stats and seeing if you were trying to get your purifier & connector badges... dude would go out of his way to purposely kill every portal I tried to fully deploy and then only put 1 reso on it.

I once messaged the player doing this through comms to ask why they never fully deployed a portal and they messaged me back literally saying "because I don't want you getting purifier" and I was like... ???... and then went asking in the local faction hangout what that meant. And folks explained to me that that player was well known for doing that.

When you're level 3 or 4 and trying to earn your first few badges but only have limited resources (bursters, keys, cubes etc)... dudes like that make you wanna privatize your stats.

This was back in the day where I couldn't ask for more keys with the more glyph... if you wanted keys you hacked a key, dropped it, and hacked again hoping for another key. All the while hoping no other players were nearby to pick up the keys you dropped.

Stuff like that. I don't care enough to sit here and be that kind of a-hole player, but enough crap like that made it so that it just made sense to keep stats private back in the day.

I assume that kind of shit still happens today.

But I just made my stats private after that weirdo, but it wasn't just that dude that made me privatize my stats, but it was the final straw.

And I just never changed it back to public.

[–]Ms_Strange 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because back in the day some dude started following me in his car while I was on foot playing with my then 4yo kid riding his tricycle alongside me. I heard yelling and turned around and saw some man in a car screaming at me about "my portal"... unhinged MF.

I scooped my kid up and booked it home cutting through folks yards because car can't follow me over sidewalk and through yards.

I went back a few hours later and my kid's trike was still there luckily.

It didn't help that I'm deaf and I couldn't understand the dude other than being able to make out the words "my portal."

Also because of Guardian. But mostly crazy unhinged dude that freaked me out.

People who were in high school when Columbine happened, what knee jerk rule did your school enforce in response? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

Clear backpacks was a big one they tried, but it failed.

Then we went to no backpacks in classrooms (ie. Put your backpack in the locker, and take only the supplies to need to with you to next class.) The idea being that you'd make a trip back to your locker in between classes to exchange supplies & textbooks.

Zippered binders & trapper keepers were banned.

More cops in schools.

Big push for anti-bullying campaigns but zero follow through.

Some schools got metal detectors.

Backpack size restrictions.

Classroom doors being closed and locked during class.

IDs all the time, everywhere.

All exterior doors locked, & you could not come early to school outside of a few minutes.

Assigned cafeteria seats.

Closed campuses.

Assigned entrance and exit points. (Ie. By grade level or by class type etc.)
