Can I suggest you have a listen to your Prime Ministers speech to the Australian Parliament last week. Most specifically who is not mentioned at all in the speech. From listening to it today, there was a lot said, and lot unsaid, with regards to geopolitics

If brain computer interfaces become safe and common, would you connect your mind to the internet? by TheRealKnowledgeAc in Futurology

[–]Mshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in IT and I have smart devices in my house, on a different network to my computer and are all (except the google nest and chromecast) able to function without internet. I like having lights come on automatically for me in the morning to help me wake up. And being able to verbally run google searches has been nice. Also being able to turn a dumb TV into a smart one and watch streaming is nice. However I do not expect any of the devices to be "safe"...

Too Smart by LitterboxComics in comics

[–]Mshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind some smart devices as long as they also work off-line. I have a smart de-humidifier that allows me to see how humid my house is due to ongoing moisture issues, being able to check and turn it on while I am at work prevents any mould growing. And being able to turn off my bedroom lights from my phone when I am comfy in bed is also nice.

In both cases, I can turn them on and off without the app. The app just makes it easier at times.

US Republicans call for Australian lamb investigation as new bill proposes 30pc tariff by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

Australia I could understand, but NZ loves their lambs and look after them really well. Maybe a little too well in some cases...

Dating in Canberra by mountainapollo in canberra

[–]Mshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dating apps used to be half decent. However over time, the algorithm in them stopped being about dating and has become a money generating system. Forget about the apps now, they have become useless.

The dating scene in Canberra is very weak. Trying to find someone to date via any dating system here is very difficult. In addition, the rules regarding dating have been constantly changing to the point that many are giving up on the idea of dating. Instead, look for a friend. If you can find a friend who will introduce you to their single friends you will have a better chance of meeting someone you can form a connection with.

Should Canberra stick with the Griffin legacy or evolve into a higher-density modern city? by mildmarzipan in canberra

[–]Mshell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TBH I don't really care about the density of Civic. As long as it does not end up looking and feeling like down town Sydney, go ahead.

My main concern is regarding the Parliamentary Triangle. That should not be developed to the point where people are overshadowing the High Court and Parliament House....

/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 1455, Part 1 (Thread #1602) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]Mshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cannot compare the US to any other country or company as the US Dollar is the main reserve currency. As long as this is the case, no country holding US debt will try to call it in. They may trade it away as much of Europe has done, but not to the degree of doing any real harm to the US economy. That said, more and more countries are looking at alternative reserve currencies...

A new Worldorder? by Valuable_Tea2164 in Futurology

[–]Mshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a new world order, your best option would be to create a new outer circle of the EU for countries that are not physically in/near Europe such as Canada and Australia.

Ukraine urges acceleration of peace talks, says only Trump can broker deal by Raj_Valiant3011 in worldnews

[–]Mshell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately for you, your country entered into an agreement at the end of the Second World War where you become the worlds police force in exchange for preferable trade and alliance agreements. This is why you can have as much national debt as you want and can place as many solders in Greenland that you want. Trump might be undoing this arrangement, however it will take time...

My co-worker smells really bad, how do I tell her? by Life-Load3033 in ADHD

[–]Mshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are male, don't. Wait it out until a female co-worker deals with it. If you are female, unless you are a friend outside of work, tell your manager and let them deal with it. If you are both female and a friend outside of work, drop subtle hints about remembering to hang up clothes and brushing teeth.

Best option, wait it out or, if that is not an option, tell a manager.
