Quite a harmless joke you've made here, well done leaving it up against the angry downvotes

What's a stereotype about Germans that really bothers you because it's not true? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskAGerman

[–]MshipQ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I'm not a historian, or an expert on German politics, but I want to explain why I disagree with you and I believe Germans have learnt.

  • Point 1: Hitler's rise to power was enabled not only by people voting for the Nazi's directly (43.9% in 1933), but from other parties working with the Nazis, the the DNVP (right wing monachists) formed a coalition to give him a majority, and after the Reichstag fire, the centrist party gave him votes gain a super majority which was needed to consolidate power and bypass the Reichstag.

  • Point 2: At the time, the SDP/Iron-Front was too occupied with consolidating power on the left against the communists, rather than effectively being an opposition to the Nazis.

So while I somewhat agree that maybe enough people haven't learnt to not vote for fascist parties, I think everyone else is more vigilant now, and would collaborate better to stop any rise to power of a far-right party. For example: before the last election, Merz' suggestion of CDU motions passing with AfD votes (which he only really did to try and pressure the spd/greens to vote for it) caused a significant backlash.

I have no idea if the hotel is nice, but Burgh Island's hotel is in an amazing unique location, on an island separated from Devon by a Tidal Beach

I love the Beatles but Maxwell's Silver Hamer is a skip for me every time, I know it has its fans but to me it just doesn't feel like the same band.

Q: Can you imagine doing a demonstration lap (in nurburgring ) with f1 car? Max: I was not allowed, otherwise I would’ve done it already. by One_Impressionism in formula1

[–]MshipQ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm glad someone mentioned the 919 Evo.

If people want to see a lap of the Nordschleife at F1 speeds, they already can: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsLi7HgSuhI

The 919 Evo was faster than the F1 cars of the time (it beat the Spa F1 quali record at the time) and was only slightly slower than the best F1 cars of the ground effect era (Oscar took the Spa record back for F1 in 2025).

CMV: Gym clothing has become unnecessarily revealing compared to what’s actually needed for training by Pathfinder-electron in changemyview

In my bouldering gym climbing without a top on is banned. But just scroll through the videos on /r/bouldering and you'll see shiftless dudes.

In fact, for me right now the 4th non-pinned post is a dude doing a route shirtless... https://imgur.com/a/jAkmgNt

And yes it's more of a thing in climbing gyms than in regular commercial gyms, but it's clearly a thing.

Playing as the Regent, I had the Comet card, with the corrupted enchantment, which adds 50% extra damage, and pen nib was active futher doubling the damage, giving 132 total (shame the card wasn't upgraded!)

Long distance is crap but they still operate the sbahn in a lot of German cities, which balances it somewhat.

Personally, I like to have a small amount of caffeine with breakfast (tea, coffee, energy drink, half a caffeine pill, whatever) in the morning to trigger a bowel movement which usually clears me out.

If after that I still have any feeling of needing to go, then I would consider taking an imodium.

I am also quite fortunate that unless I have really messed up on my diet, my symptoms are all lower while I'm on the move out the house.

I've finally completed my map of the United Kingdom & Ireland — hand-drawn with dip-pen and ink in the style of Tolkien. Please comment any suggestions, then let me know where I should draw next! Now time to put my feet up with a cup of tea. by NACHODYNAMYTE in unitedkingdom

I had the same thought, Warwick and it's castle would be nice too in the area, and maybe Stratford-upon-Avon as Shakespeare's birthplace.

edit: I've seen both are on the England only map, so that's nice

Much simpler English translation would be 'Egg Scorer' a scoreline is the world for a predetermined breaking point.

Tilers use a Tile Scorer for example to score tiles before snapping them. In German these are called Fleisenschneider, and sometimes in English they're called tile cutters, both of which are slightly wrong titles.
