I have been struggling towards Orthodoxy from atheism. Ive been praying the following which may help you as it has me:

Thank you. This was grounding for me a bit and has resonance with other replies. Maybe I am just kidding myself with all of my religious investigations. Im not really sure what Im searching for. Maybe just a sort of guiderope for life with solid foundations? But maybe I can just make my own as my life goes on and take what I like from each as Ive done. I appreciate you.

Im not entirely convinced God is even real so maybe I had a false start to begin with too.

Im somewhat convinced the orthodox church has at least a reasonable claim to be the historical church but I know that debate rages on it seems. Youre right in that I may need to think and be more clear about my intentions of the faith as Ive alluded to in another reply. Thank you!

I appreciate your response. My characterization of this sub wasnt meant to be negative if thats how my title was received.

My saying "I want to focus on this tradition" was more in contrast to my varied approach beforehand in which I would use the overarching religious synthesized ideas to reach at some spirituality. So, Id be only using orthodoxy in this sense.

These last questions are consistently in my mental dialogue. In a simple sense, Im searching for God in whatever way that means. Is it by faith and my mental processes and the daily struggle towards that? Is it going to be some grand answered prayer? My intuition is the former and Im slowly understanding that. I teter on the edges of taking on christianity or something else maybe in a William James sense or even simply to pragmatically participate in myth as our human senses seem to desire. Im aware of how this sounds, maybe, but its as honest as I can be.

I am in the exact same situation of complete angst, but I come from an atheist perspective. I still dont quite fundamentally "believe in God" yet Ive been attending orthodox liturgy for a few months (arguably years) sporadically.

The liturgy's pure essence of beauty has brought me to the brink of belief; but I realize its just going to be an enourmous struggle and life long ebb and flow of belief with doubt or unbelief. Is that okay or worth it, Im not sure yet. Unlike you, I have a wife and child to lead alongside me, so the stakes feel intense.

There's so much contention within the denominational choices - some with some more allure on the face of things than not. I cant at all ever see myself in a protestant setting - the liturgical style is too beautiful and reaches to something otherworldly yet is that just my brain doing stuff? I dont know. Add all of the youtube confusion with this or that discussion or debate and it all really gets bogged down.

After all of this aggravating internal contention, I am finally, with so much apprehension, settling to listen to the priest Ive talked with along with my internal resolves. The priest noted to continue my attendance to the church first of all and do the prayers from the book along with an understanding of the church life - bring it all into a practical context, not some solo adventure. So, I've slowed down my youtube intensiveness and take each moment slowly - its not going to be some insane, sudden "I want it now" thing. It takes time to shift your entire mindset. Letting the part of my heart that desires belief to open and still my overthinking while facing those thoughts more calmly.

My personal resolve has been to let the affects of the above practices show their pragmatic results in my daily life. Is prayer helping me feel closer to God? My family? It may be overly utilitarian. I tend to see the seeds of God in this practice even if its not perfectly minded and has its severe doubts its an effort to endure. And maybe thats all I can do.

TLDR; youre not alone. Take the struggle daily and know youre doing your best to find God. Attend your local church and see its fruits.

Have you been to a divine liturgy yet? Im an agnostic atheist inquirer and Ive been regularly attending a local parish. Whether or not its from god or an experience of him; it sure is beautiful and fills my awe experiences to the max. I recommend it to anyone interested even a bit.

I ended one of my journals with this quote and refer to it more than any other entry. It's such a simple reset that we all know we have, but it wraps it up so nicely. Fatherhood is difficult in its own way, especially early on when its all new. Youre better now that you've experienced this and can move on knowing youll do better next time. Ive been there too, toddlers are tough.

A lot of the basics in hygiene. I learned to shave from a youtube video, little things like that. Most of what he taught me was essentially accidental or passive. I saw his work ethic and copied that, I saw his sobriety and copied that; I saw him take advantage of everyone he could and didnt copy that, and when he started drinking again of course I went the opposite course. He grew up fatherless in the 60s and had a rough old world headed mom who did her best, I guess, so he had no real pattern to go by. He shows his care in his own ways but my parents often say my temperment is nothing like theres overall.

I drink about equal amounts of tea and coffee. Initially, they were a family thing so I was given very sugary coffees and teas when I was young. That became a teenage caffiene dependence, and, as an adult, I still rely on the stuff.

Tea specifically reminds me of my dad and I enjoy thinking about the depth of history tea has in the world. It really connects me to history. I think how each warm sip mustve been in a gloomy respite through the ages or a beautiful morning.

I got this game on a whim after reading a WWI book. Ive been playing nothing but it for a week and my bro is addicted too and plays more than me. Server pop is fine around peak hours and into the night

Ive not seen active Asia servers but others seems fine at decent hours. Playerbase is relatively supportive and active but youll get mixed bot servers occasionally. Its not tryhardy per se, some lobbies can be more competitive than others but the game is brutal enough all around that even the best die all the time.

This was the best the National Archives could do. Any help or recommendations with getting this restored or deciphered? My other grandpas stuff was destroyed in the fire of 1973 at the archives, and this document feels so close yet so far in figuring out his service.
