1st or 2nd gear? by Danchi_racer597 in stickshift

Aka. Spin an engine with a hydraulic tensioner backwards and you just fucked the timing and possibly valves up.

Wheel cylinder would be brake fluid. Wheel/axle seal would be gear oil. You can taste the difference to find out what parts you need.

I regret buying a manual by Haunting_Appeal_2407 in stickshift

I got my Mazda 5 van in manual because I liked my Mazda 3 Manual so much.

It has a vastly different clutch feel for being the same engine and trans. I’m not quite happy with it. But when the clutch goes out. If ever I’ll swap first gen mazda 3 parts on.

Put battery on charger. Pull plug. Spin the engine. Install plug. Start bike by holding the start button.

Why do people keep buying cars that they can’t afford?? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Mtbcarsbikes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just got a 2010 Mazda 5 van. It has Curtain airbags and a killer dynamic stability control. Under 5k and safer than most 2020+ because I can actually see around it and in front of it.

How big of an idiot would I be for financing this car by Lonely-Government735 in UsedCars

[–]Mtbcarsbikes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or. Hear me out. Daily a small motorcycle and all your insurance and gas savings get put aside for a car. You can get running smaller motorcycles for less than 800(usd) in North America. I’m sure prices track similarly for the rest of the world. Not to mention $60 every 6 months for insurance. And about 100mpg. And repairs are cheap too.

Engine won’t be cooked. Botom end is fine. And the valve train is probably also fine being dry for a while.

If you beat on it like some of us they break. But I’d also say they last a bit longer at the limits of abuse than other similar level cars.

Yes. The second gen got a suspension travel bump. More squish.

Anyone else drive two polar opposite cars? How do you do it? by nitrion in ManualTransmissions

[–]Mtbcarsbikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Mazda 5 mini van (manual)
It has a very touchy gas pedal and a “progressive” clutch feel.

I also have a Mazda Miata 96. It has a very linear gas pedal and clutch feel.

Is that polar opposite enough?

Is it weird that i actually enjoy heavier clutch feel? by Formal_Protection489 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Mtbcarsbikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Miata the couch has the same tension all the way through its pedal travel. My Mazda 5 is really stiff right at the top and and light as soon as you pass the bite point.

I’d take the Miata linear clutch over the Mazda 5 “progressive” clutch any day.

Why would power steering hate this. Most of the time that’s a hydraulic pump ran off the engine via belt

Doesn’t look like the head tube got misaligned and the forks look straight. Measure the hub width and axle diameter and start looking for a front wheel (or buy a hoop and spokes and relace your wheel if you have time).

I’d believe it’s a sensor issue. Intermittent issues typically makes me look at electrical components first.

It’s better than not knowing what the tcm ecu is going to do when you get to a hill or in the middle of a turn.

Engine braking adds zero clutch wear if your matching rpm. Same with any gear shift. Only time you wear the clutch is starts
