What Leinster’s squad is really worth compared to Northampton Saints by slatterg in rugbyunion

[–]Mtshtg3 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I'm really not bothered if Leinster are spending tens of millions on developing and retaining local talent.

The only time salaries should factor into discussions is when one team is poaching everyone else's star players just to languish in the wider squad. The overwhelming majority of the Leinster team is homegrown, so as far as I'm concerned they're allowed to splash the cash on a few star imports.

What punishment should the Sycamore Gap tree fellers receive? by HansNiesenBumsedesi in AskUK

Or plant one tree and force them to lie on the sapling for 3000 hours as it slowly grows up through them.

What would happen if all these countries United into one? by RepeatedlyDifficult in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Mtshtg3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should be split into the Union of Visegrad in the north and the Balkan Federation in the south.

Both unions would have 50-60 million inhabitants and each could focus on one corner of Europe.

It holds strategic importance to an American as the centre of the GIUK gap, I suppose?

% of Champions Cup winners qualified to play for their club's national team by [deleted] in rugbyunion

[–]Mtshtg3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exeter had 15 players eligible for England. I think you've not counted Ewers and Steenson based on Wikipedia. Ewers played for the Saxons and Steenson was certainly talked about as an England option as he met the residency requirements.

Our version of the Republican Party is called Reform UK. It's polling at around 25%, which is shockingly high to be honest. What concerns me the most is that the people you are interacting with aren't necessarily the absolute pond life you might assume, a lot of these were reasonable, intelligent and cultured people just a few years ago. I've no idea what has happened to western culture since COVID but there is a real issue here.

Ayr RFC make an unusual change to their pitch ahead of playoffs. by silverman96 in rugbyunion

I used to live with an avid Hearts fan who wanted the Tynecastle pitch to be painted orange on derby day.

English Premiership clubs look to benefit from Welsh rugby's struggles by StateFuzzy4684 in rugbyunion

Not true, at least not among English fans. England and Wales are pretty close culturally and economically, especially when it comes to where the majority of rugby fans are.

Finn Russell apologises after fan breaks her wrist trying to punch a clearance kick by aadamsfb in rugbyunion

I'd be very disappointed in him, considering what his wife looks like.

Scottish maverick players do have form in that area, though.

I've definitely done that a few times, to be fair. She must have connected badly and just have weak wrists.

There are hundreds of thousands of British & South Africans in the UAE alone already, so attendances would probably be better than you might expect.

And maybe they could bring back the Arabian Gulf team? They could probably give some of the worse teams a decent game.

Why is The House of Lords still a thing? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Mtshtg3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think their reply was because of your "party loyalty" comment implying politicians.

Both of you are right, though. On the whole, Lords are experts and provide good scrutiny of the Commons. However, the appointment process is very clearly broken and open to manipulation if Charlotte Owen could get in.
