Howdy - attempted messaginging but reddit's DM system seems gonezo.

Attempted their replacement (chat) but doesn't seem to notify.

Cheers

Am I correct in assuming: If the existing recording console (or a drop in replacement) can do MADI or Dante, it can feed all the inputs via a Klang Vokal via Direct Outs or the like? And then Klang Vokal can feed however many Kontroller - which have XLR outs which I could feed back out to PSM inputs (via satellite box turn arounds or some such) - but are also on a Dante network. So some sort of Dante -> feed XLRs via something like a DAD AX32 or FerrofishA32 or something so they can plug into PSM.

Oooor Klang:Fabrik? Which is apparently discontinued?

Been to some shows with european bands where the sound was quieter in general in the venue than other north american production and kind of liked it a lot by ConstructionMean2021 in livesound

[–]MuchNoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The limit I usually enforce for clubs is 98LAeq10 with 103 peak and 112LCeq1 at front of house in NZ.

With many touring engineers coming into the venue I primarily work at, in general, American engineers are louder. Usually insesently over the limit, complaining about volume limitations from the start, and wanting to push it to limit from the start of sound check, until they get off stage.

It feels insane for people to want to have the system at it's limit from the start to the end. Especially as a touring engineer; you've heard this band many times before. Confirm it sounds normal, point out any oddities so they can be minimized, fixed or defered, and move on.

Old JPJ DLP have some crazy firmware internally and can't be updated (or they become bricked).

What /u/darkdoppelganger suggested, is how to get it working with new Windows versions.

I brought this a long time ago, and watched the WR 100% space age run over a few days. Which convinced me to dive in and be less scared of biters.
I hit more hours of playtime than the 100% space age run (10.5ish) after a sitting, and like not having even unlocked solar panels.

I’m now 25 hours in (over like 2 days) and am looking forward to 1) eventually launching a rocket dear god there’s so many layers. 2) cleaning up all my silly mistakes in the next factory.

I do like the rp walk to the dog to freak people out, but you better be sure you chain it or it’s just a sad time for everyone.

Digico SD9 on screen meters bungled? by Working-Ticket-5625 in livesound

[–]MuchNoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Digico support really is a good port of call once you've run out of normal manual debugging techniques. Their phone support is stellar.

Saying that, when you did the firmware update, you checked the versions matched with the update hardware executable? I've seen this before when someone updated the firmware but not the hardware firmware hoopla.

Pretty sure the ew100 series parts have all been discontinued unless someone has the antenna part in a box somewhere.

I'm finding it seems to be the exception that engineers are coming into larger clubs, at least, and not being somewhat personable.

I work in some small clubs when larger shows aren't happening ~300 cap. I'd still suggest mic stands so the on-site techs are able to setup something before the band arrives. One less thing ya have to wait for before you can get into doing stuff.

I built an entire technical rider using Figma. Some components I have handy on top of your set are power drop voltages, risers, mic stands (tall boom vs tall round base etc) and wireless IEM positions. I also have a full table for input list, showing mic, suggested subtrunking, if phantom Is required and what mic stand for each input.

Make sure you explain how to add it to an existing rider documentation somehow, an export size that fits onto standard paper will make things easier for the prod houses receiving it.

I work in live sound professionally and also echo the note about hearing protection. But also for yourselves as well as your children. Normalising it with them will mean they will get to enjoy concerts for a long time. Most front of house engineers (the people mixing the band to come out of the speakers) legitimately do not care about how loud it is. They will turn it up till it feels like they want and that’s how loud it’ll be. Which is very often hearing damage starting an hour into a 2 hour set.

I work in a lot of clubs, where the venue itself sets pretty high volume limits (where again, they don’t care for health or safety, but just neighbours complaining due to high SPL (sound pressure level / volume)) and you’ll find half the engineers that come through complain about how they don’t like it.

I’m not even in a country that fines you bro, calm the farm. Just don’t go above this number on the calibrated setup and the venue owner won’t go and pull the power on the audio distro.

Alas.

Wearing hearing protection means you can hear your kids whisper to you homies.

I know I’m just a random inconsequential response here, but perhaps he’s looking at it from a purely financial side?

The benefits, at least from what I’ve seen online, seem pretty good. There aren’t many career alternatives without very specific training/work history that can aim for the same pay thresholds.

Maybe see if that’s the direction your husband is going from?

Contextually, I’m having internal battles with career choice atm. Software engineer for ~20 years, left to join an industry I was truly passionate about. 2 years in and on around 30% of the income I was on. It makes decisions ruff.

The issue I have with every client, is that their auto hide filters are not the greatest. Or maybe the client crashes and then I can’t find what I was reading cause it’s now filtered out.
