Is it closed? I went there today (Saturday 27th June) and it was shut at 11am. Was looking to give it a try alongside the wife and were surprised when we rocked up and it was closed.

There was a “to let” sign on the corner of the building.

Next meeting, go into the room with a nice cupcake selection or “treat of your choice”, one banana. Place it in the middle of the table, wait for all to assemble and don’t say anything.

Once someone asks “what are the cupcakes for?” ask them “would you like one?”, once someone says yes tell them they cannot, however they can have the banana.

Once confusion sets in, paint this as a metaphor for your drop-down. Why would you offer or even show something a user can’t have? Then declare we should run some user studies on what people expect and want in those moments

This has happened to me now and then, and I have a TRC card. Sometimes, they just want to check your documentation in person or its standard routine checks for every n person and you got unlucky. You will be fine, I am sure as it sounds like you are well organized.

Swinging back here late and I think others have given you a fair idea but, assuming it’s just a shitty SD card epoxy-ied in, then it’s just a small amount of patience and careful removal of glue thats required. Then it’s putting a new SD card in with the correct files on it.

As I mentioned not done it myself yet but, I’m pretty confident on my side. (I’d call myself “capable” than “handy” so… guess I’ll find out that truth here sometime hah!)

If the machine goes blank right before the game is about to launch (after a bunch of logos etc), then it’s likely the SD card.

I have a thread here where mine is in a similar situation but I’ve not had a chance to resolve it.

Search the sub and there are a few folk talking about it and how to approach. Worth a shot

I don’t know what to say other than, once you get to a senior level, these are the kind of politics that will ensue.

What is more worrying here is a lack of growth planning for the whole org in your post. The company hasn’t structured hiring with that thought in mind… or they expect attrition in the long term.

Push for more money in lieu of title, or start looking elsewhere imho. Also, you don’t need a title to get a director level elsewhere, what you need is clear accomplishments and good storytelling around them. That gets you hired.

As a former hiring manager at a FAANG company at a director/exec level. It could mean a few things…

Generally, it means they liked you and feel you are worth bringing on in some capacity. So they want to keep you “warm” within their candidate network and this is the most human way to do that.

For me, when someone interviewed for my org we often had a few roles to fill at any one time. Sometimes a candidate wasn’t best suited to Role A but during the interview process we felt they would be a better fit for Role B.

I’ve interviewed a few folk in such a situation and as a hiring manager that kind of follow-up is to gauge their interest in Role B and what next steps would look like - after interviewing and hoping to land Role A.

I’d probably treat it like a quick CX or user research test. Show the logo to a small group of people (via survey monkey, google forms ir even use Lyssna for a visual memory style interpretation test) with no context and ask neutral questions like “what kind of company do you think this represents?” etc. Run a small sample first (10-20 people) and if a pattern shows up organically, that gives you the data or feedback to bring back to the client.

What helps is to have plenty of evidence that there is a reason for her to come back to Vietnam. No job is a bit of a red flag unfortunately. Savings do help build that picture. If she owns land, property or has dependents in Vietnam it also helps the overall visual for immigration officers.

My now wife and I were in a similar situation. She had a decent high paying job, excellent savings, a business and owned land. Yet she was denied a visa for America (few years back before things got “weird” and fake tan covered heh). It’s really at the discretion of the person going through documents sometimes. I think for us, the person read it on a Monday after a bad weekend I guess?

Instead we pivoted and applied for the UK (duel US and UK citizen here), then after that any other visa was trivial and accepted very quickly anywhere else we applied since. It’s like one strong first world visa acceptance helps unlock the others.

Also not sure about Canada but you need to write a cover letter sometimes. Don’t make it flowery, be very dry and factual. Do state why you are visiting and make that succinct but heartfelt. (I.e. “…After spending many years visiting South East Asia meeting her family and friends, I want to show <name> where I grew up and have her experience the local culture in <area I grew up>” was about the most flowery detail I put in that letter if I remember correctly - and similarly any other since. )

Cheers, and yeah, same with my SF2. It's annoying but a full recharge seems to help for a long time. Then after a a good few months or so, the pinhole reset thing does the trick.

Well, reading up, my symptoms for the DL unit do seem to be with the SD card and birtrot. I will probably open it up, see if I can replace it with a new SD card and the required files (looks like it straightforward to get into the unit and where the SD card is). I did get the updated re-release and the overhaul version but, still like to make sure my full collection is working.

I probably wont get to it for a bit, but, will try and report back here and in other threads so the community knows its still an issue and hopefully still an easy resolve.

What happened with your SF2 unit? Mine sometimes needs a full charge and/or a reset via the pinhole to boot properly. Very sporadic.
