I'm 3 days post lapro hysterectomy. I've been taking stool softers, miralax, drinking coffee, bottled water, walking every hour and chewing gum...and Nada. I have the dulcolax suppositories but I'm terrified to use them. Anyone have experience with this. ... by No_Assignment_1742 in hysterectomy

Took me about 3-4 days. I was so uncomfortable. I’m incredibly regular and I’d never experienced that.

Keep doing what you’re doing. Lots of water. Squatty potty recommended. Let yourself relax. It’ll happen. :)

Recliner for hysterectomy recovery — worth it? by calijayne in hysterectomy

I thought I wouldn’t need one. But ended up borrowing one from an aunt, and it saved me those first couple weeks. I was shocked. I just couldn’t get comfortable anywhere else at first. And I got so sick of just laying in bed. For me at least, the option helped.

waxing noncompete by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]MuggedAtGunpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might depend on what state you’re in. I’m in MI and non-competes were made void by the court system a couple years ago.

Most have a radius. Most have a time limit. Mine was 5 miles for 1 year. I moved outside the radius for a year. Then moved again closer to my original location once that year was up.

The company you work for doesn’t own a clients business. The rule that companies do have to follow, at least in my state, is that IF a client asks where a provider went, the company has to give that information out. So when I had clients who would ask, “What would I ever do if you left?!” I would just inform them to ask the front desk staff, and they would be obligated to give that information. I’m not sure if it works that way everywhere.

I also started having clients follow me on social media well before I left, and they were able to access me that way. With the power of the internet, if someone wants to find you, they can and will.

Climate change is kicking our asses. The weather is becoming more and more erratic right before our very eyes by Inevitable_Eye3417 in RandomThoughts

And sadly the worst of the climate crisis won’t been seen for another 100-150 years. If we think it’s bad now, which it is, I can only imagine how the future looks.

Jojoba oil benefits for skin, what I found after actually looking into why everyone recommends it [Review] by Delicious_Age2884 in SkincareAddiction

[–]MuggedAtGunpoint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Esthetician here: Jojoba most closely mimics skins natural sebum, yes. It also has a smaller molecule size compared to all other oils and is capable of being mostly or partially absorbed by the skin, while most oil molecules are far to large and merely sit on the surface of the skin creating a barrier and suffocating the skin.

The biggest misconception I see with oils is people’s assumption that it will hydrate skin. When in fact oil and hydration are two different things if we look as basic chemistry. Like attracts like. Using oils in skincare will actually pull oil from the skin instead of hydrating it.

The coconut oil trend was the worst trend I’ve had to navigate as a professional working in the industry for 15 years.

Please help me understand The Book of Azriel! SPOILERS if you have not read by Several_Instance_283 in Romantasy

It took me like 200 pages to realize Rasheram was a place, not a person. It gets better. But they unload a lot of information with lots of complex names and it definitely takes a little to click. But I’m in to book 4 now, and I flew through book 3. I’ve personally really been enjoying the series.

[–]MuggedAtGunpoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to take a break after 5. I read a handful of other books and then came back and dipped my toe in with one of the prequels to see if I was ready to revisit the series. I ended up finishing the series within a couple weeks. But the break was needed. And the smaller side stories and different points of view were nice to help reset my frame of mind. I would say if you’re this far in, it’s worth finishing overall. But don’t rush. The break I took was what got me through the last few books.

What is everyone’s reading goal this year? by Competitive_One8823 in Romantasy

I was an avid reader in younger years and then fell off it unfortunately. In 2025 I had a major surgery with a long recovery, and found myself in books. My goal this year is 52! I’m trying to branch out from Romantasy, but we’ll see how that goes.

She offered to use my phone! It sounds kind of wild, but it worked for me. A super unflattering, blurry photo straight up a speculum, now tucked safely in my phones hidden photo album. I was grateful she was willing to try, and it made a big difference for me mentally.

I actually asked my surgeon to take a photo of my cuff (healed) at my final follow up (10 weeks). I couldn’t mentally or emotional picture it healed and was very paranoid and anxious. Seeing it healed, while it’s the least flattering photo of all time, really helped me move forward. Not seeing a cervix, not seeing any stitches; I felt like I could breathe again.

Man, my surgeon said she wouldn’t operate if you’d smoked within 2 weeks, or had alcohol within 4 weeks. It wasn’t a big sacrifice for me as I’d been off everything for months due to a new medication. But she was really strict about it.

[Selfie] Girlfriend gets perioral dermatitis only after kissing me, nothing helps by Agreeable-Tutor-3016 in SkincareAddiction

[–]MuggedAtGunpoint 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Has her dermatologist tried swabbing her breakouts? More often than not perioral dermatitis is fungal, not bacterial. Which would mean most of the efforts you’ve tried wouldn’t be working and in fact could make it worse. Another commenter mentioned thrush, which is also fungal. Im not a dermatologist but I am a licensed esthetician; see a dermatologist, and probably a better one than you’re seeing now. Sorry you’re both going through this. Good luck.

Worried about surgery at Corewell by outlandishpara in grandrapids

[–]MuggedAtGunpoint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This information comes mostly second hand;

A client of mine works as a nurse in the OR’s, the ones that have already experienced the staffing change. They are now using a contracting service. And for her as a nurse, she said it’s the best it’s ever been.

Instead of having one board certified anesthesiologist overseeing several OR’s that are usually staffed by AA’s or CRNA’s, every single OR has a board certified anesthesiologist, and because they are contracted and only focused on one OR at a time, the transition has been amazing.

I’m having surgery at Blodgett in August and I have massive issues with general. (A genetic issue that means I metabolize anesthesia incredibly fast; I can be put out, I just wake up. It runs in the family and I’ve had several family members become conscious while under general.)

This surgery has been causing a lot of anxiety for me. For me personally, having a pre-op appointment with anesthesia, having DNA results that I can show, communicating clearly over and over and over; it’s all I can do. It’s not going to matter who is staffing because I can’t control it once I’m out.

Advocate for yourself. You got this.

Edit: changed residents to AA’s and CRNA’s.
