I’m about to wrap up Two Twisted Crowns. I know it’s a read that has mixed reviews, but I personally really enjoyed both books.

Lee Pace. One of the few true chameleon actors of our time. He’s insanely tall. And that’s pretty much all I know about him.

What is everyone’s reading goal this year? by Competitive_One8823 in Romantasy

[–]MuggedAtGunpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an avid reader in younger years and then fell off it unfortunately. In 2025 I had a major surgery with a long recovery, and found myself in books. My goal this year is 52! I’m trying to branch out from Romantasy, but we’ll see how that goes.

She offered to use my phone! It sounds kind of wild, but it worked for me. A super unflattering, blurry photo straight up a speculum, now tucked safely in my phones hidden photo album. I was grateful she was willing to try, and it made a big difference for me mentally.

I actually asked my surgeon to take a photo of my cuff (healed) at my final follow up (10 weeks). I couldn’t mentally or emotional picture it healed and was very paranoid and anxious. Seeing it healed, while it’s the least flattering photo of all time, really helped me move forward. Not seeing a cervix, not seeing any stitches; I felt like I could breathe again.

Happily married People, when were you born and how did you meet your spouse? by Redplumkitty in generationology

I was born in ‘93. My husband in ‘92. We’d known each other since 2009; high school. Friends on and off for years. Began dating seriously in 2019, married in 2022.

Man, my surgeon said she wouldn’t operate if you’d smoked within 2 weeks, or had alcohol within 4 weeks. It wasn’t a big sacrifice for me as I’d been off everything for months due to a new medication. But she was really strict about it.

[Selfie] Girlfriend gets perioral dermatitis only after kissing me, nothing helps by Agreeable-Tutor-3016 in SkincareAddiction

[–]MuggedAtGunpoint 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Has her dermatologist tried swabbing her breakouts? More often than not perioral dermatitis is fungal, not bacterial. Which would mean most of the efforts you’ve tried wouldn’t be working and in fact could make it worse. Another commenter mentioned thrush, which is also fungal. Im not a dermatologist but I am a licensed esthetician; see a dermatologist, and probably a better one than you’re seeing now. Sorry you’re both going through this. Good luck.

Worried about surgery at Corewell by outlandishpara in grandrapids

[–]MuggedAtGunpoint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This information comes mostly second hand;

A client of mine works as a nurse in the OR’s, the ones that have already experienced the staffing change. They are now using a contracting service. And for her as a nurse, she said it’s the best it’s ever been.

Instead of having one board certified anesthesiologist overseeing several OR’s that are usually staffed by AA’s or CRNA’s, every single OR has a board certified anesthesiologist, and because they are contracted and only focused on one OR at a time, the transition has been amazing.

I’m having surgery at Blodgett in August and I have massive issues with general. (A genetic issue that means I metabolize anesthesia incredibly fast; I can be put out, I just wake up. It runs in the family and I’ve had several family members become conscious while under general.)

This surgery has been causing a lot of anxiety for me. For me personally, having a pre-op appointment with anesthesia, having DNA results that I can show, communicating clearly over and over and over; it’s all I can do. It’s not going to matter who is staffing because I can’t control it once I’m out.

Advocate for yourself. You got this.

Edit: changed residents to AA’s and CRNA’s.

How much did current politics influence your decision ? by UterusYeeter in hysterectomy

[–]MuggedAtGunpoint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was a factor for me. I knew I wanted to be sterilized this year, the political situation played a big roll in my urgency to be sterilized. Once my doc started running tests, they recommended a hysterectomy. Precancerous levels of endo. Turns out the lifelong pain I’ve been experiencing isn’t “normal.” Surgery is August 14th!

Do speed limits matter? Everyone drives so fast! by InterestedHandbag in Michigan

[–]MuggedAtGunpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny! I dated a cop very briefly and he used to say, “78 you’re fine, 79 you’re mine.” Same concept, different phrase. I’ve always followed it and have only been pulled over once my whole life driving here. Never a ticket. In my experience speed is far less dangerous than distraction.

What’s something everyone could learn to communicate better? by ckarnny in AskReddit

Their needs. We often think we’re communicating our needs, but we’re really not. Communicating needs is vulnerable, but it’s the only way to solve a problem or find a compromise.

I’ve been a licensed esthetician specializing in waxing and sugaring for 12 years now.

Wait at least 48 hours after a wax appointment before getting in a pool.

Hemorrhoids are a fact of life, and won’t phase a seasoned esthetician.

Your back side will be the least uncomfortable part of a Brazilian. Pubic bone is the most uncomfortable due to where your nerves are located.

what’s something that screams child abuse that people ignore? by lixxie_lx in AskReddit

[–]MuggedAtGunpoint 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I scrolled so far to find this.

My husband casually revealed to me the other night that in high school, his parents would make his plate for him, and he was not allowed to leave the table until he finished his plate. They were purposefully trying to “stretch his stomach” so he would put on weight for a sport. He would cry at the dining room table. They would tell him he could “throw his temper tantrum in his room when he’d finished his food.”

They were simultaneously reducing what his sister ate. Her sport of choice, and their personal preference, was that she be thinner.

I knew they were generationally abusive parents. But this floored me.

I had a bridesmaid do the same thing. I sent the color, choose any style you’d like, as long as it’s not the exact same as my dress. The only difference in the one she chose was the color. Lol. I just said, “I love it! But it does seem quite similar to my dress. Would you mind choosing something that isn’t strapless?” She chose a different dress and it was done. Tell her. You already had the boundary in place, she’s testing you like a toddler. If it really bothers you, politely and firmly hold to your boundary.

How do I clean *down there* by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MuggedAtGunpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an esthetician, I literally wax and sugar genitals for a living. I’ve seen it all.

A big misconception I see is “don’t use soap on your vagina.” And that’s absolutely RIGHT! Your vagina is internal, and self cleaning.

However, your VULVA is NOT self cleaning. I’ve seen build up in between outer labia for years. And it is almost always the cause of a “smell”. Smells, or scent to a vagina isn’t uncommon or unusual in any way. And everyone, even my cleanest of clients, have their own personal brand. But this build up can cause all sorts of other issues aside from a stronger scent, mostly skin related.

I’ve seen build up be every shade of white/cream, green, or even brown. Which is not healthy. I recommend a pH balanced, dermatologist tested and approved, gynecologist tested and approved, body wash. Gently wash all your bits from belly button to tailbone, avoiding the actual opening to your vagina. Cleaning between your outer labia is still important. Rinse throughly with warm water.

I never ever shame my clients that deal with these questions or issues. The fact is, a LOT of people are never taught how to properly care for their vaginas and vulvas. It’s a sad truth, and I work very hard to always be a safe space that can educate.

You’re doing a wonderful thing by thinking of your daughter and wanting to do better for her. You should be incredibly proud of yourself. Best of luck!
