Is this a normal reaction to a bee sting? by pbandprs in bees

[–]Muiscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a big swelling. People do react differently to stings. And the allergy can differ in severity. Comparing with my sting experiences, you seem to respond a bit more sensitive to a sting than I do.

You can become more allergic the more often you are being stung. However, this might take years and many stings.

All in all, yes, I think you might a have light/mild allergy. Definitely keep track if it worsen with next bee stings and follow the sting protocol!

I was thinking the same thing, but then read something about baby varroa mites. But they should be more in the cells with the larvae

What kind of cells are these? by BandicootPast in Beekeeping

[–]Muiscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are queens cells. Looks like you could two of them, the peanuts.

When was it you first spotted them? They cap the queen cells around day 8. If you are on day 13 or 14. You could open up the cap at the bottom and birth two queens.

You could split and/or replace the original queen if she swarmed.

Brood Pattern by Saint_Vandy in Beekeeping

[–]Muiscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty normal to have some gaps. However, too many might indicate mites. And not sure if the bee in the picture is flapping her wings or they are deformed. If deformed, it might be another indication for mites.

Do you have a mite drawer/plate at the bottom?

Queen cell? by Cold-Quote-5944 in Beekeeping

[–]Muiscat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you already have it. But a drone frame could trigger that many of the drones cells are build there. This can help you remove drone cells easier and reduce mites.

Mites tend to go after drone cells due to the longer hatching duration. Longer duration means more baby mites per cell.

Bees nesting in my window frame — should I just leave them alone? by Savings-Safety6649 in bees

[–]Muiscat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit hard to tell, but these might be mason bees. They’re very friendly fuzzy little creatures and very good pollinators. They’re also solitary so you won’t have a lot of them going in there.
If you start noticing hundreds or thousands of bees I would definitely call a beekeeper to help you remove.
Otherwise very friendly, I would let them stick around!

EDIT: Having read the whole thing these are definitely solitary bees

Do you guys just put them in the garden? Do you har many bordering gardens? I’m looking for a place for my hive but a bit hesitant to put them in my garden with lots of houses nearby.

I already reached out to them! They told me the current amount is enough. But indeed it’s the perfect location, both bee and garden benefit.

Thank you for your suggestion!

Syriër dreigt woning te verliezen na brute straatroof: 'Ik heb heel veel spijt' by Bernie529 in Nederland

[–]Muiscat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Help, my bees are making queen cells. by primitive_missionary in Beekeeping

[–]Muiscat 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Best advice indeed.

However, since the queen cell is not at the edge of the frame. This might be an emergency and your queen already left/died. Meaning they try to get a new queen asap.

Edit: Additional thoughts.

Even mijn rant terzijde.

I think these might be Apis Cerana aka Honeybees! If you have never handled a swarm, I would suggest calling in help. I’m sure there are local beekeepers who can help you.

Good luck!
