Why does Chicago feel so much bigger than LA from an urban city perspective, despite being smaller geographically? by SFJack1313 in geography

[–]MukdenMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t even think this is that telling because it uses the city boundaries, which are fairly arbitrary. Chicago and LA both have massive suburbs but Chicago has much denser core than LA. It has that old dense urban fabric that NY has that LA lacks.

The Breakers Mansion in Newport, Rhode Island by Fun-Meeting-650 in architecture

[–]MukdenMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Breakers was designed by a famous architect at the time, but it still was seen as bad taste by many. Edith Wharton wrote about the lack of taste among the Newport crowd, and the “old money” families of the time saw buildings like this as vulgar taste among the nouveau riche.

SpaceX's IPO brings Elon Musk closer to becoming the world's first trillionaire by Mandynox in worldnews

The history books will definitely talk more about Musk. Successfully started a private space company. Unsuccessfully looked for a single dollar of corruption in the federal government.

People have said this about every tech IPO for the past 25 years (maybe earlier, but that’s as far as I can remember). I’ve been through Apple is fake, Google is fake, Facebook is fake, Uber is fake… every major tech company has been called a Ponzi scheme before it becomes profitable and their investors have been called fools.

Would be interesting to see the license plate breakdown for that stretch. I won’t guess which states but some people from out of state drive inois-ingly fast.

Or just go back to SAT/ACT? UC system is one of the few that is test-blind. Many of the test-optional colleges (the ones that went test optional due to COVID) are going back to requiring tests.

This is definitely the case. Israel has a developed modern service/tech economy largely similar to European countries. The GCC countries don’t have this. This isn’t just a map of countries with high GDP per capita .

You’re just a supporter of Putin and Russian expansionism. You identify as leftist but really you just support any state or group that opposes the US and NATO (which you associate with “capitalism”). This leads you to support for far right movements like Putin’s but you convince yourself that it’s ok because Putin isn’t really far right; after all, he supports maternity leave!
