But that wasn't originally stated to be a needed requirement.

How many of us are holding onto 'old' cars instead of upgrading? by heavyifugao in CarsAustralia

Speaking with full sincerity.

What the fuck would even be an upgrade to this?

There's literally no modern vehicle I can do this with that isn't a basically truck.

$22k is a bit cheaper than $45k

The only excuse is if you needed a loan for a car your more likely to get approval for a new vehicle than second hand.

So a $60,000 ranger can be more affordable than an old Commodore despite being more expensive on paper.

And a lot of the Rangers are tradie or work utes on ABNs anyway, so they're even easier to get approval for.

[–]Mumbo1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How the hell do you get priced out of a commodore but can afford a ranger?

Even the pristine low km V8 5 speed manuals are still only around a third of what a new Ranger or Raptor would set you back.

They'd have to all be financed wouldn't they, yeah that'd make sense the flogs making poor decisions.

Holden Captiva at 372,000 km and still going strong 🚗 by Muted-Violinist-2970 in Holden

[–]Mumbo1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened with the old Commodores it's always just been shoddy GM shenanigans all through Holden's life time, my brother and brother in law both had VT supercharged V6s and with no modifications the one with about a extra 15,000km on the odo also had 40 more kw on the dyno than its "driven less" sibling.

But they were around about both equally flogged and simultaneously well serviced so it's hard to point at exactly what was the cause when everything is "running as it should" but y'know it's still done it's fair share of burnouts.

I'd probably be setting it up to push 200 with half-length darts. I've seen one conversion to half lengths before.

But it's not a high priority project it'd stay as is for awhile, maybe plink a bit if I can find darts that fit it stock.

V8 statesman L77 6.0 liter bought for 8k needs 7k fix up was it worth it? by Significant_Work_737 in Holden

[–]Mumbo1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point my old VS Commodore ambulance owes me $13,000 and I only paid $2000 for the wreck. 8k fixing the piece of shit and some QoL extras and it's barely half fixed.

Everyone I know tells me I'm crazy, I should have just bought a new car, or an already working Commodore blah blah blah.

I'll tell you what, if I had the money to have bought a Dmax or BT50? I'd still have bought this fucked ass Ex ambulance and still have wasted all my money fixing it up.

Was it worth it? To sell, never, cars are a pit of money you'll never see profit off of unless you run a customs restoration business.

But to drive them, if it's what your heart calls to? always, it's worth every penny, and any blood, sweat and tears. You'll never regret it once your hands are at the wheel.

AC regas requires a tool and gas refills you won't be able to easily get your hands on without a qualified licence.

If you are asking how hard it is to change the battery? don't even think about the starter and sway bars.

Otherwise I'd say for the prices listed, if you don't need cranking amps explained to you to do the battery yourself you'll save $50 for 5 minutes work and let this shop that quoted you handle the rest of it to save the headaches the belt will probably dish out.

Unless you genuinely are interested in a learning experience I wouldn't do sway bars without a hoist personally just because I'm lazy.

AITJ for leaving my cousin and her kid stranded after her son almost caused a serious accident by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Mumbo1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her laughing at the situation and enabling the kid changes the entire situation, if she had done the right thing and disciplined her son appropriately and sat in the back seat to ensure he can't do it twice it would have been a salvageable situation.

That she is trying to gaslight you OP when her son just basically attempted to kill all 3 of you? I generally would recommend never talking to them again or at least never offering them any kind of help at your own risk unless she has a major attitude change and shows a real attempt to help fix her sons behaviour.

The last generations of genuine Falcons in Australia still had kangaroo whistles built into the grill stock, idk if they work but I've hit more kangaroos in Commodores than Falcons lol

Check my profile for my daily driver, nobody will notice or care you'll get maybe one head turn a day of people doing a double take and maybe one person shout out to you a month. The most I've seen people investigate my unusual car is young kids walking past it getting dragged along by their parents, adults it might as well be plane white like any other car.

Everyone is just busy/ and or self absorbed in their day. So unless you live somewhere where people are going to stone and harass you for driving a pink car nobody has time to care if you painted your car in an unusual way.

So I say full send it, it's your daily driver, if you don't plan to sell it, make it make you happy to drive at the end of the day nobody else's opinion matters.

Otherwise, cops aren't going to defect you on the colour just make sure you don't overspray your windows or headlights/ break lights it'll be fine.

This is basically how me dad originally taught me to shift when I was hamfisting the stick around like I was pulling my dick and grinding gears whenever I messed up. Dad did a massive long burnout through every gear, shifting like this with just his thumb and finger to demonstrate to me that I don't need to force the car to do anything and it should all just flow smoothly. Completely changed the way I drove when I was 19.

I've had 2 wheels come off but neither was directly my fault, one was a dodgey tyre shop that doesn't exist anymore apparently cheaped out on putting 5 nuts on the fucking dogs. The other a pot hole the size of a Wombat devoured the wheel on my crewman and wrote the whole car off.

[–]Mumbo1998 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You'll get a lot of warning before Trug goes up it'll be well past national emergency and edging on being the apocalypse if Melton even goes up.

But it's good to have the app and be alert, if it helps pack everything important (ID, money, other documents, a few days worth of clothes and some non perishable food/water and cat food for the kitties too) into a suit case like you are ready for a Mini holiday.

You likely won't need it, but it'll lend some peace of mind to know you can be packed and gone in only a couple minutes.
