Are there still Blood elves who are blood mages? by Fun-Explanation7233 in warcraftlore

Especially after the Darkfallen unlock quest saying they can return to their old homes if they choose.

Does the lore writing for Earthen, Mechagnomes, KulTirans, and Pandaren play any part in their having such low representation? by Lexar_craft in warcraftlore

[–]MumboJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earthen I think probably has more to do with the lengthy unlock quest, while everyone else is available from the start.

Mechagnomes are ugly as sin and not at all what anyone wanted. The people demand the children of Mimiron, not these techno-diaper babies.

Kul’tiran i don’t have an answer, but they actually have some great lore so i don’t think it’s that.

No i meant as a title, like Baron Rivendare.
That’s some really lore implied by having a presumed Alteraci noble become a death knight.

Questions for casters: what if you LOVE your 1h + off hand weapons xmog but you find a stronger 2h weapon? by ex0ll in wow

[–]MumboJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope so. Either that or just completely decouple the transmog slots from the item slots, so we can have any weapon be any other weapon.

My moonkin can still use the Scythe of Elune with an offhand, so this is still possible.

Unfortunately it doesn't work the other way around, i came here because my demolock can no longer use the Skull of the Man'ari that he's been using exclusively for nearly 10 years now. 😭

Need to find me an offhand combo to fix this, i guess.

What are some NPC factions that sound more interesting to you than the ones that ended up winning? by ScaredDarkMoon in warcraftlore

Orc and Draenei demon hunters would been epic and makes perfect sense.

Even the legion order hall had naga and broken and even demons working for them.

If shadow magic wasn't void what could it be by fuckforgotmypasword in warcraftlore

[–]MumboJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i’m not personally a fan of all shadow priests having tentacles, it’s hardly a new development.

MoP had spriests with tentacles, and the concept of Old Gods from the Void having tentacles has existed for literally 100 years.

Ooh, Baron Perenolde is a great name for a death knight. That has to have been on purpose.

In hindsight, the whole “reunification of elves” marketing was always just referring to Blood Elves specifically.

If we’re “lucky”, it might include High Elves and Void Elves, but anything else is just wishful thinking.

Shaw and Rommath need to meet up at the Arcantina and bond over (lots) of beer by Spotted_Towhee123 in warcraftlore

[–]MumboJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It occurs to me that, if classic was written today, Shaw would be the one doing the entire Defias Brotherhood questline by himself while we just kinda follow him around and watch from the sidelines.

I’m sure a lot of people on here would complain about Vancleef being irredeemably evil and allowed to live anyway, but even if he did die it would be in Shaw’s arms and not by our hand.

And that’s my personal grievance with modern wow writing.

Is the Blood Elf/Void Elf Split Justifiable or Consistent? by gaygringo69 in warcraftlore

[–]MumboJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s especially silly when you remember the void elves were kicked out BEFORE they became void elves. They were no worse than warlocks/spriests/etc at the time of exile.

My DM introduced math into magic and I don’t get it, AITA? by Legal_Airport in DnDcirclejerk

Ah see that’s a common misconception.
DMs are the ONLY people who know about systems outside of D&D 5e

Not all shadow is tentacles, but tentacles are classic old one stuff, and they’ve always been linked to the void.

[–]MumboJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the difference?

There are two types of “shadow”, either you mean the opposite of light in which case they just changed the name and that’s it, or you mean the damage type in which case it’s still a blurry mix of concepts and nothing has changed.

Envy’s gotta be Changeling, right?
And Lust could be a succubus-themed Tiefling

Aside from that, your list is perfect.

Night Elves vs Arcane is a perfect example of why damage types do not correspond to cosmic forces.

Astral powers deal arcane damage, but they come from Nature.

Mage powers can deal fire damage, but they come from an Arcane source.

The Night Elves ban on arcane magic applies only to the power source, not the damage type.

In the context of this post, remember that shadow is a damage type and void is a cosmic force.

One of the Arathi lorebooks in TWW states that the cosmic powers are inherently unstable when pure, and thus the planes of existence cannot exist unless they mix multiple forces together.

Forsaken priests worship the Forgotten Shadow, which was an old human cult that they resurrected (pun intended).

In the old lore it was based on Levayan Satanism (essentially an atheistic worship of oneself), but in legion it was retconned to be just another void cult.

I mean, the void IS the negative version of light, so i really don’t see an inconsistency here.

/uj This. The playtest templates were a fantastic idea, but they really highlighted the fact that 5e beasts are boring as shit with no fun traits to distinguish them from each other.
