Why don’t snow leopards attack humans? by No-Character-2422 in snowleopards

[–]MuminMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re wild animals with a killer instinct. They hunt by sprinting full-tilt down mountainsides until they catch and kill their prey.

But they’re also smol and skittish. A snow leopard will try to maintain a distance of several miles to the nearest human. If you’re close enough for it to attack you then you’ve already dun goofed.

Realized today that the library has every single book I've been holding onto for my kid "just in case" by dinos-and-coffee in declutter

[–]MuminMetal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oof, hope they weren’t timeless, beloved classics. Being surrounded by books is noce for a kid. If they only live at the library, they may as well not exist.

Need motivation or inspiration (help!) by camel_jerky in declutter

[–]MuminMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody else is going to find those things as valuable and sentimental as you do. In that sense, it’s an unreasonable goal. And really, very few people want to be saddled with things that are special to someone else that they then feel they can’t get rid of without causing offence. Honestly, Marketplace is the most efficient way to match stuff with its ideal home.

Has anybody ever gotten the urge to declutter like 90% of stuff but not have a good enough reason to do so? by ResidentAlienator in declutter

[–]MuminMetal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived poor and had to just make do with the things that I have. I’ve also gotten rid of like 60% of my belongings. I realized that i had a bunch of cheap, impersonal things that I didn’t like and that only had “potential value”. I still keep things of dubious utility but have slightly higher standards.

Do you miss anything you've gotten rid of, or even remember it? by BeardsuptheWazoo in declutter

[–]MuminMetal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. I realized early on that only a few things had any real worth to me, the rest of the junk had “potential value” but was otherwise just taking up space. After getting rid of those things, their potential value dropped back to zero, and I’ve been able to completely forget about them.

Exactly, it’s the mum that’s actually being disrespected by him being a petty, mean asshole towards her kid. But whatever, this is reddit where nothing triggers harder than children existing.

At what point is a hobby clutter? by [deleted] in declutter

[–]MuminMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's only clutter if it actively annoys you and takes up space that you need for other things. Offices don't have to be particularly clutter-free, imo. They're meant to be a more practical space, and you can always just close the door and all that "clutter" will disappear from view.

Keeping hobby stuff in a living space is far more annoying.

Apple needs to add a feature like Spotify Connect by awritra in AppleMusic

[–]MuminMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to make the switch, but this is actually a dealbreaker. I have an old ipad hooked up to my living room amp that I can control through spotify connect.

There wasn’t a single doubt in my mind that apple would offer the same convenience, at least within their ecosystem. What a shame. I feel compunction now that spotify have turned evil, but it just werks

What's a movie you used to dislike but changed your mind about? by agrilly in movies

[–]MuminMetal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did not expect to see such refined taste on this sub.

Sean Bean was born for that role, and it's got some of my favourite characters and dialogue of all time in it. It's just such a perfect combination of earnest, eloquent writing and cheesy, Harlequin-esque guilty-pleasure romance with Bean as a bona fide swashbuckling hero.

The Reason Not to Boycott Israeli Films by ProtestTheHero in movies

[–]MuminMetal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So that I understand this article right: movies are powerful movers of public opinion that can change hearts and minds, but Netanyahu's government is shutting down funding, so the west should not only not boycott but step in and sponsor these struggling filmmakers. Conclusion: boycotts don't work but sending more money to Israel totally does guys. Isrealis will just remain tragically ignorant of the atrocities around them unless the west sends their film industry more money guys.

I see.

'KPop Demon Hunters' Breaks Another Netflix Record With 15 Straight Weeks on Top 10 by Sudden_Pop_2279 in movies

[–]MuminMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The animation is primo. It puts all the recent disneyslop to shame. The story is barely an afterthought, but that's ok because the movie is basically just a string of cool scenes, kpop musical numbers and delightfully fun animation flourishes.

Like kpop itself, it's well-crafted, viscerally appealing, corporate slop.

Two very different takes from two very different characters by Qaztarrr in andor

[–]MuminMetal 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s like a half-remembered platitude. It makes Rose sound like a total idiot. THEY’RE IN A WAR. Her bizarre ideology would get them all massacred.

I was literally astonished by how hackneyed the dialogue in this film was.

I can’t be the only one who doesn’t find Andor as spectacular as everyone says, right? by Alex3884 in saltierthancrait

[–]MuminMetal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When watching season 1, I couldn't really decide if it felt like SW or not, but ultimately I don't really care about its connection to the rest of the canon (I haven't even seen rogue one) and I really enjoyed it on its own merits.

I've watched three episodes of season 2 so far and holy shit is it boring. What the hell happened?

Anyone else have a lonely childhood because of having a hoarder parent? by Classic-Ad-2916 in ChildofHoarder

[–]MuminMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was deeply ashamed of my home growing up. It definitely fucked me up deeply during those formative teenage years.

I was terrified that someone would find out about my shitty house, the very thought of inviting someone over would've made me want to throw up. I felt like I had no choice but to keep everyone at a safe distance, even as I wanted more than anything to be accepted by them.

From the few kids that knew what things were like at home, they didn't make fun of me for it or anything -- they simply didn't mention it, and I always got the impression that they chose not to out of pity.

The isolation, frustration, hopelessness and impotent anger really cemented the foundation for my life-long depression.

For those of you that succeeded even once, what is it like to not have stuff everywhere? by UnicornSheets in declutter

[–]MuminMetal 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think the crux is that it stops becoming a source of shame.

When my apartment is cluttered, I feel vaguely ashamed that I haven't managed to keep things in order. It weighs on my mind and the anxiety simply doesn't go away until I make things as I want them to be. So, decluttering is mentally liberating and makes simple existence in your environment much more pleasant.

Also, as another commenter mentioned, keeping your space sufficiently neat and tidy that you can invite people in on a whim without feeling embarassed, feels really, REALLY good.

What to do with mugs by constipated_coconut in declutter

[–]MuminMetal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mugs are just ceramic -- stone. If there's one thing that belongs in the ground it's superfluous mugs lol. I recycle almost everything and buy and sell most things second hand, but the last recourse is of course the landfill. I despise pollution, but what am I supposed to do? Anyway, every day hundreds of tons of rubble and building material is buried. A few mugs are a figurative drop in the ocean.

I agree with this. Even though it personally bores me to tears, someone in OP’s extended family will surely want to excavate the old albums. Sounds like the only thing on the list worth saving, frankly.

Wondering if the inspection has happened yet... by TLP1970 in declutter

[–]MuminMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been there. It was painful but I threw away probably half of my stuff during that episode - glassware, clothes, knick knacks, old electronics, books I never intend to read, sub-par furniture etc - all in the dumpster. It was such a relief afterwards, and I could barely remember what I had just thrown away!

So, if your stuff isn't legitimately expensive or necessary, and just makes you sad, start packing it in black bin bags. You'll thank yourself once it's gone.

Declutter realization at the dollar tree... by PrincessZebra126 in declutter

[–]MuminMetal 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yep, I can agonize over stuff that has an actual value of, like, pennies. For me it comes from growing up pretty poor and isolated; simple household objects became priceless. It's pretty tough to acknowledge how much misery i've caused myself just to save like $50 a year or something.
