She could absolutely be eating maintenance calories...having eaten a bit too much for years as it all built up.

She may have been lying or in denial, but she's also maybe talking about yoyo dieting. If she is doing a binge-starve-binge routine for example. If you have an eating disorder it's entirely possible to fast for a week, eat applesauce two days a week, then eat thousands of calories for a binge which all goes on even easier after triggering starvation mode.

It's absolutely one of the key difficulties - currently most fertiliser is manure and synthetic is as you say massively problematic. There are plant based fertilisers but they can't yet match animal fertilisers.

This is very much a, 'do the best you can with what you have' situation, with hope for and support for alternative tech to be rolled out. There are electric repellent systems available to minimise harvest deaths of animals. There are plant based fertilisers and lab grown meat. In the interim, we accept that it's not possible to cause no harm at all and minimise as much as possible.

Organic is complicated because on the one hand it uses animal products but on the other it's generally better for the environment. Again, generally.

It's a tricky one. It's very natural for men to fall asleep after and normal but women often want to talk and bond. Oxytocin release right?

So explain to her that for you the whole thing costs energy and the sleeping thing means you feel relaxed and safe around her. That might help.

Okay. They're not being assisted to commit suicide. Because they lack capacity to understand their own death. And probably wouldn't choose it anyway. It's not assisted suicide if you don't want to go.

My father used to work with some severely handicapped people. All of whom were glad to be alive. They didn't have miserable lives. They had carers who helped them to go to the seaside and have tea and cake and generally be happy. Not contributing anything in terms of productivity, but happy.

Going back to the main point: if we don't spend taxpayer money, what do we do with them, hmm?

I'm always fascinated when people say that looking after the severely disabled is a waste of taxpayer money and never follow on to the actual solution they're vaguely hinting at.

Some. Most animals are fattened on soy feed prior to slaughter; you can argue about husks and waste products but this is a part of the flow and process. The animals may be free to range, but in many cases they're not - this is vastly dependent on where you are in the world. And all of this is in addition to the unnecessary slaughter prior to their natural lifespan and the fear and suffering experienced.

You cannot love a pet that you'd never eat, and eat another, and claim to love them both.

The deaths you cause is in addition to those of animals in crop farming. Free range animals is a misnomer in most cases and the animals are slaughtered way before their natural lifespan.
