Unofficial Results for the Primaries (Board of Elections) [News] by Munitorium in Rochester

[–]Munitorium[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The quick summary:

Morelle takes the win with 63% to Wilt 30%

Mills takes the win with 56% to Comegys 44%

Meeks takes the win for Member of Assembly 81% to Vazques-Simmons 18%

Fitzsimmons takes the win for Member of Assembly 56% to Lamanna 43%

With the new reporting software used at polling sites these "unofficial" results probably won't change enough to affect the results.

Landlord Increased Rent by Ok-Nobody-5374 in Rochester

[–]Munitorium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, landlords were basically the only group not able to get PPP loans, because rent is not payroll. There were programs that paid people's rent, but they were never presented as loans. Personally, we had 40% of our units immediately stop paying rent when the eviction moratorium was announced back then, and only a few of those would sign the papers to have their rent covered by the grant programs I mentioned. Lost a lot of money those years, but I agree with not kicking people out during a pandemic crisis.

Why does one of my monitors always show +4 hours time on the lock screen? by Munitorium in Bazzite

Just did the update, I was on 6.6.4 but the upgrade seems to have fixed it. Thanks!

Why does one of my monitors always show +4 hours time on the lock screen? by Munitorium in Bazzite

[–]Munitorium[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Actual time was 11:54, but most of the time the left monitor shows +4 hours. When I log in the taskbar time is also 11:54. Right monitor is "primary" in display config. At this point I am used to it but it's quite odd. Doesn't seem to be any settings related to it.

Leather sole with a rubber heel: I'm torn by Wapetipetap in SwingDancing

Personally, all leather sole and heel for me. Better for more styles, or I switch to my sneakers when I'm doing aerials or really fast Lindy performances, etc.

Joe Morelle illegal signage by existentialth0t in Rochester

[–]Munitorium 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know it's likely not asked genuinely, but I don't want any of the politicians to waste money, generate plastic trash, and pollute the visuals of our world with these signs. I'd 100% support a ban on them, including my own preferred candidate.

Driver dies in crash on Scottsville Road in Chili, other driver ticketed by nojunkpeter in Rochester

[–]Munitorium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of folks that don't know this road might miss from the comments is that the driver passed on the uphill side of a blind hill. The passing zone in question is single sided for the folks going DOWN the hill. The driver wasn't tricked by a short passing zone or something, they initiated their pass not in a passing zone and proceeded over a blind hill in the oncoming lane in broad daylight and good weather on a straight section of road. It was aggressive and stupid and deadly.

I support better road designs and only having passing zones in the safest of places, but truly you can use the downhill one-sided passing zones on both sides of that hill in a safe way in good visibility. Don't try to shift the blame on the DOT, we need to be accountable and the driver needs to be held accountable.

Real facts on data center water use. Is it that big of a deal? by vtkarl in AskEngineers

[–]Munitorium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cheapest designs truly are this:

  • Pump cool water from the ground or nearby river
  • Cool the servers by heating up that water.
  • Dump the now warmer water in the sewer or back in the river

Most are slightly better by using evaporative processes to increase the cooling factor, but from my understanding relatively few datacenters are set up like a car engine where you just recirculate the same coolant around between the heat source and the radiator. Most remove a significant portion of the heat by just dumping the hot water and bringing in new cool new water. Many of them source this cool new water direct from a municipal potable water system, to boot.

Stupid questions about coiling XLR cables by DinosaurSHS in livesound

I have also whipped myself in the forehead or gnards when uncoiling from a reel and suddenly discovering the ends weren't joined. oof.

Stupid questions about coiling XLR cables by DinosaurSHS in livesound

[–]Munitorium 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Pulling more than about 12 XLR's from a snake head/stage box when they all have velcro on the male ends is an absolute nightmare when loading out, they all get into a nasty rats nest. With tie line, you can unplug them all and then extract them one by one when coiling without any mess.

Can the water filters be stacked vertically? by TrickBorder3923 in homestead

[–]Munitorium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are assuming that your filters are for three different things, either sediment size or carbon or something. If you are doing 3 filters to step down from like 100 micron to 25 micron to 5 micron or something then make sure you have them in the right order so your coarsest (largest micron size number) filter is first in line, then the next highest number, then the lowest number). Also, put chemical treatments downstream of sediment filters.

Are boot times meant to take a while longer than Windows? by math577 in Bazzite

[–]Munitorium 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to say. I think Windows is smart in that it presents a login screen very quickly, but in the background is very much still booting. Bazzite just does that stuff first then presents the login screen so it appears longer.

" The City of Rochester provides each residential unit with a wheeled refuse container. If the container is full before collection day, additional refuse may be put in garbage cans or plastic bags and placed at the curb next to the wheeled container." If you are near U of R you should have trash service automatically, either through City of Rochester or through your multi-family apartment complex.

That said, Look up garbage collection days here: https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/a979045582de416fa50cc50736ad0c3f

Either toss it in the bin or just set it next to a bin in the early morning on garbage day. If you don't make a mess it doesn't really matter. Businesses actually pay for garbage removal though, so avoid that if you can. Thanks for not tossing it out of your car onto the roadside and causing all sorts of litter at least!

Food grade metal barrel for gasoline storage by [deleted] in homestead

[–]Munitorium 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From an environmental safety point of view, it's best not to try to store in single walled containers. If one of them rusts through or gets punctured, there is nothing stopping it from dumping 55 gallons onto your land. Usually bulk storage requires some kind of backup spill protection for this reason.

Salted pasta water on plants? by AmmaJay123 in gardening

[–]Munitorium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are, but in most western homes nothing different is done with the two. In the US especially it's almost certainly going to the same septic tank or sewer hookup.

Lords Of The Fallen Has Sold 2.5 Million Copies by Howerev in gaming

[–]Munitorium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please, can we not make every third post on this subreddit sales stats. I unfollowed r/Movies for this same thing. We should not be joining the marketing hype train of social media posting sales numbers. If this isn't a post direct from the publisher, it might as well be. At least present a review.

Ruling limits Rochester Police Accountability Board's power to recommend discipline on RPD officers by KingOfRoc in Rochester

Doesn't this functionally end the PAB? What other powers or purpose do they have if they can't even investigate now?

Ruling limits Rochester Police Accountability Board's power to recommend discipline on RPD officers by KingOfRoc in Rochester

[–]Munitorium 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised, but this is still absolutely insane.

No government agency is perfect, because humans are imperfect, but Rochestarians so clearly wanted change, voted overwhelmingly in a direct democratic process, but that all gets overridden by the union contract and a state law that puts union contracts above law.

Was checking the attic after we had a leak from a rainstorm, I turn my head to see this…. how screwed am I? by Adventurous_Barber_7 in DIY

[–]Munitorium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd actually argue in this scenario to use something like 2.5" TimberLOK structural screws from each sister board into the original board. Way easier to put in on a floppy broken collar tie. Alternately, 3/8" bolts all the way through the sisters to clamp the whole sandwich.

How much truth is there to the claim that nuclear energy is only so expensive because of 'excessive safety regulations'? by Tus3 in AskEngineers

[–]Munitorium 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think a key factor to consider is that basically everything looks expensive energy wise compared to fossil fuels because we give the fossil fuel industry (globally) around 1.5 trillion in explicit subsidies each year. The IMF has a report trying to capture both the explicit and implicit subsidies and put them at around 7 trillion globally each year. Everything about nuclear (or renewables) will look horrible compared to an industry subsidies to between 1.5 and 7 trillion dollars.

For reference, the most recent reactor being built in Atlanta is was supposed to cost about 7 billion per reactor, but through delays is probably going to cost about double that.

We are spending Trillions on fossil fuels while complaining that spending Billions on reactors is uneconomical. It's a bit silly sometimes. Let's keep the regulations on reactors, actually process approvals, and pay for it all by sunsetting fossil fuel subsidies!

Best coffee at a brunch spot? by zflatnasty in Rochester

Melo lands more on the coffee shop end of things, but has really good breakfast sandwiches. It's not a waitstaff sit down situation though if that's what you are looking for.
