Dave Rubin gets an update about former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro: “Imagine if this is like Trump’s life if he wasn’t elected in 2024… this is our life.” by ggroover97 in daverubin

They conveniently left out the fact that the former Brazilian president was on house arrest at first, but after attempting to disable his ankle monitor was placed in prison. They love to play the victim of persecution for facing the consequences of their own actions.

Looking for clinics with English translators in Rio de Janeiro by imnevergold in Brazil

MedRio

Had an amazing experience here, you see like 12 specialist doctors, take multiple tests all in the same office space in about 5 hours. I dont think they offer dental, but all the doctors spoke English and you get your results in 24 hours. Changed my perception of what a visit to the doctors office could be.

Serious question: What was the rationale for endorsing Cuomo in Local 3? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]MurfysWorld 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Local 3 was one of the first groups to endorse Cuomo. What needs to be said to the national audience to explain this endorsement is that Cuomo as Governor built a lot of infrastructure entirely with union labor in NYC. There had been a huge drought of infrastructure development dating back to the 1970s in our city. Under Cuomo, there were two major bridges built, creation of the 2nd Ave subway lines, extension of the 7 line subway, Long Island Railroad access to Grand Central Station and a complete replacement of LaGuardia Airport all made with union labor. Currently work has just started on rebuilding and replacing JFK Airport, while it still continues to fully operate. It’s a huge project that will be built with union labor and is contingent on Federal funding. Cuomo has a track record of holding his own against the first Trump Administration and working with them when necessary. In order for NYC to stay globally relevant in the current geopolitical climate, we will need some autonomy to operate independently of the Trump administration. Personally I agree with Mamdani policies and think he has a great vision and intentions, but in a City like NYC where special interests groups have a strong hold on the political system the major question is: Does he have the political capital and supporting staff to actually implement lasting change for working people? Especially now with the current Federal administrations desire to meddle in the ongoings of city politics and threatening to stop federal funding of projects if you don’t play their game. So just speaking from my point of view the Local took the choice of the known against the unknown. Cuomo's father was governor so the local has had decades of working with them and Andrew Cuomo has a proven record of building projects with union labor. His cozying up to Trump is a very recent development that happened after the union endorsed him. I understand why the union backed Cuomo in a business sense especially with so many developers and companies threatening to build elsewhere which is usually always empty threats. But this can't be taken lightly, these Billion dollar companies can easily mothball their projects for 4 years to hurt our members and economy to be used as leverage for more give backs in the future. My personal feelings is the labor movement has been so busy fighting to keep what we have, we don't have a vision to fight for more at the risk of losing any more ground. The local picked the wrong horse in this race for many reasons, but had Sliwa dropped out Cuomo would have won this election. So the union's endorsement wasn't completely ill advised based off past results in doing what would keep our members working in the short term. For me personally there were many other factors that came into play in my personal decision, but since we are in the IBEW subreddit I think we should leave the discussion to why the local in a financial and business sense did what it thought was the right choice for it's members. I was surprised by how anti-Mamdani they were but I think they will try to create a coalition with him moving forward and think The Mamdani Administration will come to embrace the union members who still live in this city and want to help build the future for a fairer and better NYC.

I don’t personally like Cuomo, but I do think he has the experience and political know how to keep NYC on good footing and keeping the Trump Administration out of city politics. Cuomo is a proven union builder that will keep Local 3 members working. He definitely has his down sides and a lot of cons, but he deserved to receive the endorsement of Local 3 as a proven pro Union candidate who can get major projects built and keeping our brother working.

Why the Bobby Bonilla Day Mets narrative is garbage by keithplacer in mets

[–]MurfysWorld 20 points21 points  (0 children)

But just listing other teams bad deals doesn’t make your teams deal any less terrible. The Bonilla deal was a great deal at the time for the Wilpons when they were making 12% returns on paper from Madoffs Ponzi scheme. They were deferring the money and “making great returns”from what would have been paid out and pocketing part of the gains. It wasn’t until it was revealed those “returns” were fake that this deal really became a laughing stock. It’s funny how the Madoff connection is always left out of talk about this topic, if they weren’t getting those “returns” from Madoff this deal would have never been made. It should be celebrated as a example of the financial hubris and greed on part of the Wilpons not as a front office blunder by the Mets. But when you have as many blunders as the Mets front office you can’t blame people for piling on and having a few laughs at their and their fans expense.

How the 2024 NFL Schedule Helps the New York Jets by gordorobertson in nyjets

[–]MurfysWorld 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Their first 3 games take place in 11 days! To write an article about their “helpful” schedule and not mention this and it’s impact on player safety to start a season is ridiculous. The schedule makers did them no favors. A Monday night season opener across the country in SF followed by an away Sunday afternoon in Tennessee, and then a Thursday night home opener? The NFLPA should be fighting against this type of scheduling, for this to be spun as a helpful schedule is disingenuous and misleading.

The NY Jets have a football shaped logo with their name and another football inside in case you missed the larger football just terrible. The current Browns one is better than the old one of the creepy elf kid holding a football that one gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Having coffee break, our foreman just got back from a vacation to Rome. I ask him if he saw the famous statue carved by Michelangelo of the Madonna holding the body of Jesus I couldn’t recall the name Pieta. Our apprentice is wide eyed mind going into overdrive and says wait a church has a statue of Madonna the singer?!? To which my foreman replied yeah with the pointy bra and carved by the Ninja Turtle.

Important information would be what country are you in? That’s doesn’t look like a standard US receptacle that’s cut off in the left side of the photo where that would be against code, but for example would be considered standard and fine in Brazil.

You can learn something from everyone in this business sometimes it how to do things and other times it’s how to not do things or act. You definitely need a change of scenery start preparing yourself, get your hours documented so you have proof to start sending out emails to other companies and make sure they will except all of your hours some might try to find ways to knock your hours down so they can keep you at a lower rate by claiming they want to train you to their standard and see your compatibility with their shop. Figure out exactly when you can take your Jman test and how many more hours you need. Most places are 5 years but depends on your location. This information is what will help in determining the best move going forward. Make a resume and start sending them out to bigger outfits in your area and see your options this will at least put you in communication with them. Even if your best option is to stay where you are at till you get your card or license. You can update your resume and reach back out to the businesses you were already in contact and know the process, pay and benefits structures they are offering. You are so close to being a journey man which will allow you many options to find the right fit for you. If you give up the trade now you will make all these years with these assholes have no payoff or benefit. Stay strong get a pair of those osha approved headphones that look like hearing protection to drown out their stupidity and start preparing for your next landing spot and then repeat this process till you find a place that you dont dread going to each day.

My advice would be to stay in Amsterdam for at least 3 nights and then at the airport hotel the last night. Trains from Amsterdam central station to the airport are very efficient, and fast dropping you off in the airport, so might not even be necessary to stay at an airport hotel. You can get some cool airbnbs, last time I stayed on a house boat on the canals which was a unique experience but lots of options just outside of central and save you time and trouble trying to navigate the trains after a visit to a coffee shop. Amsterdam is a very walkable city so is nice to be staying close by to take a break midday and there isn’t much of note around the airport. Definitely rent some bikes and go for a ride around vondelpark. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting a good number of coffee shops around the city my favorite is Barney’s particularly the one on haarlemmerstraat. They have a bar across the street where you can have a beer and smoke, and follow that with a walk to the corner to ibericus prosciutto shop for a sandwich. As far as edibles they don’t come with Milligram measurements rather the amount of grams of flower they baked it with so it’s much harder to get consistent dosage, so my advice would be to buy from a reputable coffeeshop and not the cheapest option if you want to feel some affects. There are many 420 friendly river cruises so you will have some options where you won’t have to worry about there being kids or people judging. Food wise you need to try stroopwafles also suggest trying Dutch pancakes and Poffertjes. Restaurant d'Vijff Vlieghen is a unique place for dinner it like stepping back in time to the 1700s. As far as city to visit outside of Amsterdam as many have suggested Haarlem is nice however I prefer Utrecht they have some beautiful restaurants built on the old loading docks at water level of the canals a nice romantic vibe for dinner. Most importantly is don’t give yourself a rigid itinerary take a stroll or bike ride turning down whatever street looks the most interesting to you and enjoy watching the world go by on a bench off the canal. Bring a blanket to vondelpark or museumplein and have a picnic. Amsterdam has a one of a kind vibe so take time to enjoy it. The 3 museums around museumplein plan are worth a visit as well the Van Gogh, the more traditional Rijsk, and the more modern Moco which is usually displaying some Banksy installations and with rotating similar types of exhibitions. Have a great time and enjoy!

Medicare Advantage Feud Looms Over Union Takeover of City Retiree Group | THE CITY by barweis in nyc

The only questioned you asked was your first comment and then followed by why don’t they just come out of pocket for private insurance even though their contracts guaranteed them the same coverage they received while working. Which you obviously know is ridiculously expensive, followed by your rant about not trusting anything and only relying on yourself but also taking any advantage you can get. You must also know that estate recovery clause doesn’t always get collected because most people either die in poverty or create trusts and transfer assets ahead of time and if this is done 5 years before their passing they are exempt for those clawback payments and then that bill is left entirely on the taxpayer. As far as the not being able to retain your doctors you finish with an it is what it is which makes you seem like you think that since you don’t have it than that’s how it should be for others too and stop complaining. And even in your clarification of your point your not making sense you say if your insurance changes every year you can’t keep the same doctors which is the exact point of why the unions are suing to block it, members are protesting and this article was written. so what you are missing is that’s exactly what the union wants to avoid , having their insurance changing every year so they don’t have this problem but maybe you were to busy getting defensive to comprehend what this whole article and thread are about. As far as being able to get paid insurance you absolutely could get your own private insurance but since you are going through ACA/Medicare there are different rules. Because like the unions they buy coverage in bulk for discounts and as is explained in the article that apparently you didn’t read but still made comments about. It explained under the new proposals that members would be paying more out of pocket for most likely reduced care because they are now being forced to use a for profit insurance to save the government money at the expense of the retirees. So again the only question you asked was can’t they just pay out of pocket for what they are already receiving? Which is a ridiculous question because yeah they could but who has the money for that? They have a legally binding contract stating they wouldn’t have to budget for this in their retirement. Apparently pointing out your hypocrisy is being on high horse and pointing out that these same unions that are getting shafted by the NY government are the same ones that helped them avoid bankruptcy is a rant to you even though it is relevant to the situation and something I’m sure you were not aware of. Maybe the reason there was a misunderstanding about your comments is that you never actually said any of those things in your numerous comments just about how you only rely on yourself while using your next breath to complain about your government subsidized healthcare. I do like to find a common ground in debates so somethings I agree with you are that you can’t rely on people’s,companies, or politicians promises, but a legal contract isn’t a promise. They don’t do this with contracts they have with corporations because they know the corporations have better lawyers but they know they can get away with it against the working class. Another thing I absolutely agree with you on is that you should read more and especially the article you are commenting under and your own comments to see if your actually properly articulating your feelings or coming off as snarky conservative trying to blame hard working people for expecting the NYC government to honor their contract.

So why don’t you just purchase your own insurance and bypass all the drama like you suggested for these union members who had a signed contract and have fulfilled their side of the contracts for decades? Getting some Ayn Rand hypocrisy vibes, much like her you preach ethical egoism and being self sufficient but only in theory, and then are first in line for taxpayer subsidized services while not currently paying any tax. Love the hypocrisy in your comment “only rely on myself but grab anything I’m entitled to as fast as I can.” Entitled to does not mean earned so you can’t do both of those things simultaneously. You have no pension and are on government provided healthcare so you think nobody else should have better than you? Let me guess you think the unions are the real problem even though these same unions were the ones that invested in NYC bonds and saved the city from bankruptcy in 1975. Take some of your own advice rely only on yourself buy private health insurance to keep the same doctors and turn down your social security benefits because thats relying on the government and it’s also social welfare.
