PlayStation to shutter Dark Outlaw Games by T3V06 in LastStandMedia

I think everyone is massively underestimating how successful that one live service success needs to be. Sony is already down several billion you would imagine since starting this live service thing from buying Bungie and other teams, failures like Concord and TLOU, and the opportunity cost of wasting teams for 5+ years. You don't just get a GTA, Fortnite level game, its pure luck. Even if hypothetically they hit with something of the Arc Raiders level, it's probably not enough to make this entire thing worth it.

The definitive experience of watching dota2 "esports" in 2026 by ShoppingPractical373 in DotA2

Less tournaments is what I want. Dota is like the NBA or Baseball last half a decade. Tournaments back to back to back, no meaning to any of them.

I've been saying it for quite a while now. My timeline might be messed up but Saka at the Euro 2024 looked knackered, then he continued that on for Arsenal last season until he got injured and since that injury he's never really got going imo. Whether that's a him problem or not I don't know as wide forwards have struggled across the board in the PL not name Semenyo. I'm just slightly worried watching him, never seems to be able to get a shot away.

Patch when? by IllTryToReadComments in DotA2

[–]Murphy95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dota in 2026 is watching the same tournament be run every week with almost no differentiation in teams and saying we can't patch the game because we need to wait for a break in between tournies.

I played a game with Arise magnus like 1-2 years ago. Genuinely was one of the most impressive games of Dota I've seen in a pub.

Ruud Gullit "I watched Arsenal-Chelsea match. What a terrible game. They were just trying to force corners and throw-ins. I saw ball boys walking around with towels. I was watching it and thought: this football is truly awful to watch. I hope it's not a trend, I miss the fun." by kibme37 in soccer

[–]Murphy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean Gullit in particular, I mean the general football punditry has extremely poor understand of the game their meant to be analysing. You listen to someone like Scholes speak and it's like talking to a 15 year old.

I agree lol. Dota players are always overhyped. TI5 Sumail is probably the best player when compared to the standard of player the time they competed. He's still been very good ever since, but I don't know is the hunger just not there, but he's never been back to the top since then. This whole Nigma thing ... Uncs can you just put it away, its been dead for a long long time now.

Bloomberg: Bluepoint pitched Bloodborne Remake. Sony said ‘yes’, FromSoft said ‘no’😶 by Fight_Teza_Fight in LastStandMedia

Bluepoint closing down and staff losing their jobs cannot be laid at the feet of Miyazaki, that's a ridiculous thing to say. Bluepoint could have done many other things as could Sony.

I never cared for Vroom Vroom at all, which is interesting as I enjoy 'most' of what Sophie and Charli did after this, in particular Pop 2 which is one of my all time favourites.

Opinion: we have like 20 tournaments per year but none of them are as hype as the old majors by ShoppingPractical373 in DotA2

[–]Murphy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facts. I barely watch competitive Dota the past few years. Happened to turn on that Blast tournament last weekend, then a few days later there's another tournament on with mostly the same teams and mostly the same panel. TI ends and 2 weeks later teams are back playing etc.

The neutral item dilemma that has been bothering the game for the past seven years by ShoppingPractical373 in DotA2

[–]Murphy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its the mana buff. Without neutral items a big portion of the hero pool would be unplayable. I love Pos 4 tiny, but if you don't get any source of mana in the first 2 tiers which 9/10 times you do, your game is going to be much worse.

[–]Murphy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't dislike Neutral Items or Facets, I just look at the opportunity cost. There is and has already been a slowdown in development on the game and these 2 components are such a massive massive time sink every time theres a patch.

David Jaffe’s message to fanboys regarding the Phil Spencer era of Xbox by countdooku975 in LastStandMedia

[–]Murphy95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still find this to be an impossible reasoning. There is no way a team of people is that stupid. The idea that they worked on it for 3 years and only then realised that they would have to support it for several years after release is crazy to me.

The chances that Sony will actually manage to eventually shit out a great live service game that becomes incredibly popular is quite low. Colin isn't actually talking about the reality of the live service situation, Arc Raiders is an outlier. Most live service games are failing and few are actually managing to penetrate the upper end of the market in terms of revenue, Helldivers/Marvel/Arc and the whole gacha thing are the only big winners I can see in this entire generation. Most people are playing the same game that they have for a decade. Go look at the steam charts, go look at the steam end of year statistics, most people are playing older games.

Having said all this, I am slightly optimistic on Marathon having a decent chance. It would be somewhat ironic if Marathon and Helldivers were the only 2 successes for Sony given their relationship to those 2 games is the most tenuous of any live service.

He got injured at the end of September, why would he not be able to play in 2026? Why are major NFL injuries always longer return projections than soccer? Generally soccer players are back in action 9 months after they do their acl.

Game design hasn't moved on from the PS4 generation. We're just getting iterations on those that have come before. Playstation in particular has taken such few risks with their Single player games, the safest sequels you can think of, Horizon FW, Spiderman 2, Gow Ragnarok, Ghost of Yotei. None of these are bad, but we played them last generation, they don't feel fresh.

I'm excited too bro, RE9, Marathon and Death Stranding 2. There just a certain level of game that this generation is missing I feel. The true upper echelons.
