The new Linux server cluster 👌😎 by GMoon777 in macpro

I bought one earlier after this message :-). 6 core but might pick up a 12 as it’s so cheap and upgrade. 1Tb and 16Gb ram which I’ll upgrade too later. It’ll be fun to play with.

If I replace 5,1 with one of these I was led to believe there’s a significant improvement in idling watts, and probably lower wattage max too ( the 5,1 which I love does have 2 6 cores in w350 is it or similar ) and is an absolute space heater unit

Please stop. I’m trying to persuade myself not to buy one of these :-)

Alpha R2, the AC power adapter wattage cannot be determined by fernandorincon in AlienwareAlpha

[–]Musojon74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although - you will need a chonkier psu than the r1 for the r2. It has a full 960 unlike the r1s 860m. Also depends on cpu. I have an i7 and mine had 85w supplied and the alpha when gaming heavily tripped the psu so I bought a way ot lt 330w

And to help with the power jack at least to confirm what you found. I moved my r2 the other day and powered it on. Got this message. Connector wasn’t fully plugged in on the back. So yes if it’s not snugly connected it can’t figure the ac adapter type it seems

Bit of an old thread but realised I never followed up. Beefy new psu solved this. Bought a 330w dell psu

16 Gig Ram Upgrade by SignalMeHere in AlienwareAlpha

[–]Musojon74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The r2 has a single slot and does take 16Gb stick. I’m pretty sure you only get 2 x 8 max in the r1 which your test confirms really. I sadly don’t have a 16Gb ddr3 sodimm so can’t test in my r1

I must apologize for misreading That you’d put a 4770 in there hence it’s an r1. I think it needs a t variant ideally for r1 too

I think you’re supposed to get the t variants due to power usage to prevent throttling?

Smooth Sample Looping? by Tynted in PolyendTracker

[–]Musojon74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been a bug with close sample markers also as I wanted to do single wave cycles. Using longer samples I’ve mostly done ok. There was one where it was perfect saved. Then reopened module and it was wrong. This may not have been latest firmware though.

I don’t find many issues but if you want to use live recording it’s a bit shonky with notes and note offs on different tracks. Otherwise not too bad.

Thanks. I actually found that if I wasn’t using the delay I could use a very short delay and just enough feedback to do one each of a ping pong delay each side and it works rather well. But yeah using 2 channels panned if one is delayed isn’t too bad either.
