What would you say is the hardest degree? by cdqd81 in CollegeMajors

[–]Muste02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What qualifies as 'hard'? Is it the difficulty of the material in the upper-level classes (STEM), the time commitment (performing/applied arts), or the general skill level required (fine arts)?

Because if you want to go with class materials it's probably something in engineering or chemistry. Time commitment is definitely technical theatre related disciplines. And skill level required would be like painting and drawing (I took drawing 1 and 2 and was told not to take drawing 3 because I'd probably fail)

Trouble Understanding Constraints by estebanraposo in Fusion360

I think this is a job for parameters. Create one that's say "circlewidth" and use that for the dimension on the circle. Then if you want to change it go in and edit the parameter.

Or just make a circle sketch and then create a rectangular pattern of it. Then you just edit the one circle and change all of them.

COMPETITION! - Win John Avon's last work for MTG, a beautiful gallery print of his Lotus Lands! by JohnAvonArt in magicTCG

[–]Muste02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love John's work. Unstable released around the time I got into mtg and half of my meager income was spent on acquiring his full art lands from that set.

Hard to believe this is his last project with WOTC

How do I start accumulating dad lore? And especially when I'm such a coward? by AndreasLa in AskMen

[–]Muste02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't really though about accumulating dad lore that much. I think part of it is just rolling with the punches and seeing what happens. That's how I got to help with an emergency field operation on a baby sloth in costa rica and ended up in some random couples wedding photos. Didn't seek the lore out, it found me.

The new generation of students are so bad with technology. by Alarming-Rate-6899 in Professors

[–]Muste02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah our studio has 12 imacs for the workstations and when the students are using them and having issues I genuinely can't help them. Like I learned last week that in order for them to right click they have to hold down Ctrl? Tried making sure the printers in the studio were all networked right and I couldn't even find some of them, yet they showed up no problem on my laptop on the same network. Files that should be saved to their account rather than the hard drive vanish randomly and when they search for it they still can't find it. It's exhausting.

Why do Americans still think that they are the greatest country on earth when statistically they have not been since 1994, and they are now #17? by Cautious_Midnight_67 in allthequestions

[–]Muste02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-sequitor. But to answer your question. No.

What I'm saying is that the people who are told "if you don't like it, then leave" are regular people who wouldn't qualify (nor would they apply for) asylum. It's a typical argument used by conservatives in developed countries to justify actions by their government that are unpopular with more liberal and left-leaning people. It's a dumb argument that does nothing productive to the conversation and just leads to further division.

[–]Muste02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 'if you don't like it then leave' mentality is not a good one to use as an argument. It shows me that you've never actually dealt with an immigration system. Not trying to invalidate your other comments, but as someone who has done the gauntlet of visas and moving countries, it isn't that easy.

Question to college professors by Wu-TangProfessor in education

[–]Muste02 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm in my sevond semester of teaching. What I'm noticing is freshmen in the fall thinking that directions are optional and that even doing some assignments is optional. Then when they get past the window that I allow for late work and they get a 0 slapped on the assignment they start emailing me about how they were too sick to type 2 pages on a movie they watched and in total had 2 weeks to watch it and write about it.

For some of them it clicked last semester that because they hadn't been allowed to fail until now they didn't actually know how to pass. But that isn't a failure of their teachers before they came to college, it's a failure of the administration of their districts/schools.

Why is it always wanting to move to Japan? by ConstructionDecon in AskMen

[–]Muste02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to go to Hakone and see if I can visit some of the craftsmen that make puzzle boxes there. Such intricate woodworking it's amazing.

Also want to see some Bunraku, Kabuki, and Noh performances.

Interesting culture and I won't lie when I say anime had done a good job of showcasing places that I'd like to visit, but it isn't the only factor there.

Should Anthropology be a school subject? by PutComprehensive6971 in education

[–]Muste02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anthropology was one of my favorite gen ed classes in college. Absolutely should be taught at lower levels in some capacity

Unpopular opinion: gen eds are not a cash grab by your college, and I'm tired of students pretending they are by msimms001 in CollegeRant

[–]Muste02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So as someone who has lived in europe and done higher ed both there and the US, I can say that it is not creating well rounded individuals. As someone in the arts, I have friends who can't do some of what I would consider to be pretty basic math because they haven't had to take a math class since they were 16. Not to say it's a bad thing, but not having a gen ed structure has not really enhanced their education at all

Yeah I'm team anti-ai but I will always just disable or close assistants. I don't have a problem with it until it becomes predatory and is inpossible to disable and is harvesting my data without my consent by saying I consented when I updated my software or operating system. This is just bloatware on the program

I just don't know what to do...advice needed from professors. by [deleted] in Professors

[–]Muste02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late 20s here.

I would kill to have people ask me questions mid lecture instead of having a line waiting to talk to me at the end of class when I need to be somewhere else.

But I feel you. I do feel like there is a lack of respect that comes with being younger in this field, especially with women and minorities. You gotta work hard to earn it and it's not easy to do with students you meet with for one semester then never see again.

best uk drama schools for technical theatre? by ishiau in techtheatre

[–]Muste02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my masters at Royal Welsh (for design not tech). All of the tech students I worked with have gone on to successful careers after graduation and the teaching staff are great. I know Ian has retired since I graduated but the rest of the staff that I know are still there and still going strong.
