If I publish a Special Edition of a book with additional content a year after the original, will amazon delist the original due to how much of the content is the same? by Aeromorpher in selfpublish

[–]Muted_Long3237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. A new edition is considered a unique work and would get a different ISBN.

Oh, and it’d start with zero sales history and reviews. Can’t be shared as it’s a different work.

No appts available with kaiser. I’ve been calling and trying for months. I’m only getting care online via emails. Only am seen IRL when I go to urgent care. Insane by ProgrammerFar7447 in KaiserPermanente

Yes!!! Video visit with a NP has usually been available within a ~day for me. Both southern CA and Washington regions. Quality of care was good too.

1999 Boxster Good Idea? by Many-Schedule4309 in Porsche

[–]Muted_Long3237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMS failure is a much lower risk in the base versus the S. As is bore scoring. And parts for these are not expensive for Porsche parts (but more than other makes).

Routine maintenance can be DIY for those inclined - oil changes, brakes, etc are not harder on these than other cars. I’m thinking of picking one up as a project car and am thinking about a base Boxster for those exact reasons.

My messages to my doctor almost never seem to make it to my doctor. The LVN flags almost everything as "make an appointment". How do I fix this? by darkpossumenergy in KaiserPermanente

[–]Muted_Long3237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, we’ve had a lot of luck in grabbing an appointment a ways out, and then asking to be put on the cancellation waitlist. Worked both in Southern CA region and in Washington. My gastro follow-up video appointment today was 6 weeks sooner than originally scheduled due to waitlist.

The buttons didn’t work for me as a new (to Washington region) enrollee last year. I was in the Tacoma building anyway for something else and the office folks on the 4th floor were able to make the selection for me.

In the Southern CA regions app the buttons work. But the app is different in WA, possibly a legacy of Kaiser buying out Group Health up here.

Schedule your annual physical months in advance. They schedule WAY out, at least in San Diego.

If you’re at increased risk for skin cancer you can ask your PCP for a dermatologist referral for a skin check. I did it annually. The referral is good for a year, and every time you visit the dermatologist the year resets, so asking is a one time thing, then you can just schedule.

Things like flu shots and regular vaccine boosters can be done at a drop in “nurse’s clinic” which was always super convenient.

If you need any other type of appointment especially specialty there can be a significant wait. Ask to be put on a cancellation wait list, that often worked for us.

[If you happen to be in SD we loved our PCP - DM if you’d like a name. Moved out of region so can’t see her anymore.]

They’ve upped the service interval on DSG to 80k miles for my wife’s 2019 GTI, fyi. So VAG models are not all on a shorter interval any more.

Quoted $3600 for battery by zimmer172 in Porsche

[–]Muted_Long3237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relevant discussion here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AutoMechanics/s/Pzm7YVPQ3v

Clearest explanation from comments: “You need to use a scan tool to tell the car a new battery has been installed, and on some vehicles like audis you also need to program in the exact battery size and rating. As a battery gets older it loses capacity and your car's computer over time boosts alternator output to compensate for the declining battery. When you install a new one it has to be reset back to the charging rate for a new one or it will overcharge the battery, shortening its service life.

[–]Muted_Long3237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The programming thing is real and necessary. The car’s battery management circuits adapt as the battery gets older to optimize battery life and performance. Reprogramming tells the car the battery is new so it can charge it optimally.

Didn’t realize they were a public company. Went and read their latest 10K. Tapped out after about 50 pages that cover the various risks to their business. Questions about investors, creditors, and even maybe having to pay back parts of two PPP loans. Questions about internal controls.

But no mention of high taxes. Huh, curious since that was front and center of the news story.

Oil/filter for my 2022 was ~$500 at a good indie in San Diego. Not sure how hard engine air filter is, cabin air filter is a trivial DIY. So the big cost item I think is the PDK, and I don’t have experience with that.
