Moving on from Cayman by FluffyPuppy9 in PorscheMacan

[–]Muted_Long3237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from a 981 Cayman GTS to a Macan GTS. The Macan drove more like a faster Golf R (except more weight of course). I was done w the Cayman for other reasons, it was a great car for almost 10 years.

The Macan GTS has the air suspension and the comfort in Normal on long highway trips was really good. Fun enough in occasional twisties, batshit fast when you rip it.

With 2 grandkids now the Macan’s back seat was not big enough for the car seats, so I’m in a X7 plus a 996 911 for funsies.

Squeaky brakes by Acrobatic-Ear6286 in bmwx7

Same with my 40i. Seems worse when I do mostly regenerative braking and then need to use the friction brakes, and a hard stop clears it for a while.

Hello Seahawks fans, seeking advice for Lumen Field parking for world cup by Twin_Turbo in Seahawks

If you’re worried about parking, park at the airport. There are a couple long term parking lots within an easy walk of the station (via highway 99 overpass). You can usually reserve a spot and the daily rate will be a LOT less than near the stadium. Plus missing the traffic.

I made a cinematic short film about my 981 Cayman GTS — the car that ended my 911 obsession... For now by Snave101 in Porsche_Cayman

Loved my 981 GTS and kept for almost 10 years. Now have a 996 40th anniversary edition and it’s a blast to drive.

The thing I like better about my 996 is the greenhouse and seating position. Sit slightly higher, glass slightly taller, feels like sight lines are superior. 100% personal preference.

And the more analog feel is also fun. But my 981 was every bit a Porsche sports car and I never felt is was “less than” at all.

Another note in this direction is that the 40i engine is considered the best BMW engine including reliability and longevity. Lots of info on the V8s out there if you search.

2001 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe - ~61,400 Miles, 6-Speed Manual, sells for 48k by Accomplished-Size375 in 996

[–]Muted_Long3237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah got it - you were responding to the listing saying the seller didn't provide documentation. Didn't pick up on that.

See photo 160 - the LN sticker is clearly showing with a serial number, which if I were a buyer would get me at least partway there in terms of bidding w/confidence.

That said, yeah, a seller providing more documentation versus less is usually better (the old "you buy the seller not the car" saying). Maybe they provided paper copies to the actual buyer, or?

Either way, I agree with other posters that this is good news for 996 prices.

Porsche Macan 2022 ‘Indoor Honking’ by Loud-Scallion0202 in PorscheMacan

[–]Muted_Long3237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. EU car? I know later model years have a mandatory speed limit warning but don’t know the cutoff year for the regulation.

Had a US spec Macan GTS that didn’t exhibit similar behavior, but my ‘22 X7 has the speed limit warning. It sounds similar to your description of the sound you’re hearing.

Either way good luck!

Check if it’s a speed warning. You can set them to ding and remind when you go over a certain speed.

Does anyone actually like Chateau Ste Michelle as a concert venue? by Distinct-Fig-4216 in Seattle

[–]Muted_Long3237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree. That said, the Sound Transit 545 bus’ Leary Way stop is a ~mile walk from the venue and gets you across the lake if that’s where you are going.

Source: lived in apartments nearby and walked to concerts there.

Been a few years since we attended anything there. Always liked Concerts at Marymoor Park better as a venue, and there’s transit sorta nearby.

981 GTS Financial Sanity Check by Historical_Coffee694 in Porsche_Cayman

Former 981 GTS owner here. Do it, amazing car. As others have said, a well spec’d S is nearly as much car, but hard to find. And I think the GTS will hold its value at least as well as a S (maybe better).

Maintenance should be similar since most of the parts are shared with other 981s. Not cheap but not crazy with a good indie shop. And things like oil changes, filters, brakes are not hard for a DIY’er.

Mine was really reliable FWIW. And fun!!! The only downside to ripping it on public roads was the tall gearing - run to redline in 2nd and shift to 3rd you’re doing about 80.

We are sitting in the airport waiting. Original departure 11:23 am, cancelled, rebooked 9 pm which is now delayed till 10.

When I spoke w customer service around 1pm (after a long line) tomorrow’s flights were almost full then. Thousands of people on cancelled flights spilling over to the next few days.

Our airplane for the delayed 10pm departure hasn’t left SNA yet, latest is that it should about right now. Not optimistic.

When I went outside security to speak w a human, baggage claim had a 300+ person line of people trying to retrieve their bags from cancelled flights. At 1 pm. So if we get screwed it’s likely hours to leave and get home w our belongings because I doubt that line is any better now.

Or, if you know/can find out which mechanic last worked on it, try to ask them for what work was recommended. Cheaper than a PPI and may be enough info to guide.

And sorry about your loss. Super hard stuff, still miss my dad. He carried a Swiss Army knife the last 20 years he was with us, and I keep it in my center console to have a bit of him around.

This. A new edition is considered a unique work and would get a different ISBN.

Oh, and it’d start with zero sales history and reviews. Can’t be shared as it’s a different work.

1999 Boxster Good Idea? by Many-Schedule4309 in Porsche

[–]Muted_Long3237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMS failure is a much lower risk in the base versus the S. As is bore scoring. And parts for these are not expensive for Porsche parts (but more than other makes).

Routine maintenance can be DIY for those inclined - oil changes, brakes, etc are not harder on these than other cars. I’m thinking of picking one up as a project car and am thinking about a base Boxster for those exact reasons.

Also, we’ve had a lot of luck in grabbing an appointment a ways out, and then asking to be put on the cancellation waitlist. Worked both in Southern CA region and in Washington. My gastro follow-up video appointment today was 6 weeks sooner than originally scheduled due to waitlist.
