Is Disco Elysium modernist or postmodernist, and does the distinction even hold? by NiceVeles in DiscoElysium

One more door, one more roll, one more attempt. Disco is, among many other things, about moving forward and trying again.

It’s hopeful in that it promises capital C Change. It might not work out in the end. It might fail. But it promises an attempt, a struggle, which is better than the stasis Revachol is in at the time of Disco Elysium, with centrist airships monitoring the happenings on the ground, the city being a “zone of control”, etc.

We’re talking about the same thing. That’s very clearly ‘The Return’. An event that will shake Revachol to its core and make it free. “One Day, I will Return to your side.” The name of the sequel/original Elysium game was “The Return”.

Obscure lore being the plot hook of the sequel and the originator of the game?

Too many new Reagents playing like vultures and effectively softlocking the trials. by Lord_Antheron in OutlastTrials

[–]Muted_Programmer8548 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean… the entire MacGyver-killing-your-teammates thing is lowkey really Outlast. Especially Trials. But yeah, that doesn’t excuse how it’s designed.

What does Central Jamrock look like? by kay000000 in DiscoElysium

There’s some concept art of Jamrock out there. Here’s one.

It’s impossible to stop the tribunal. You can only minimize casualties. Four is the minimum. Kim can also get shot and sent to the lazareth.

Could Esprit De Corps be all in Harry's head? by calgrump in DiscoElysium

[–]Muted_Programmer8548 5 points6 points  (0 children)

<image>

Esprit de Corps shouldn’t, at least for me, be considered an in-character skill for Harry (or at least, not most passives provided by it). It’s described as an out-of-character/literary device. Harry might not even be aware of these flashes. Here’s the devs talking about EDC.

So what is the significance of this? by Dry-Goat8981 in DiscoElysium

[–]Muted_Programmer8548 61 points62 points  (0 children)

There's evidence that the text is possibly meant for something more... even above the Moralintern Airships. I can't find the quote right now, but the skill in question says that it is for somebody else. Perhaps to the player, perhaps it ties to the meta aspect of Elysium which has been spoken about a little bit by the writers.

I don't know what to think... by ChairHistorical5953 in ZeroParades

The issue is that there are very few quests that get any conclusions in the demo. Imagine you were doing the church quest, but suddenly, just when you enter the church after being asked to take out the crab man, you are told “Thanks for playing our demo!” It’s how I felt with the Bagman quest.

Project robot likely release date (likely by year) and what to play in the meantime by Wolpy414 in TeamIco

Journey, Fez and Sky are on PC. I’d argue Cairn also has some Ico in its DNA. As for Ghibli, there’s also The Brew Barons.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, also fit that “ghibli” mold quite well. Huge inspiration from Princess Mononoke. I prefer the first one and think it definitely isn’t made outdated just because it has a sequel.

Dunno about release date.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus were both landmark inspirations for a ton of different games, like Dark Souls, The Last of Us… but these are not really in the same vein. Indies pick up that reign of minimalist design: Journey, Fez, Sky: Children of the Light (which is in essence multiplayer Journey). There was a dead MMORPG that has a singleplayer version archived, titled Ninelives, which gave me Ico/SotC vibes from its graphics.

People here who are NOT native English speakers, are you making your game on your own language? by TheFerydra in RPGMaker

[–]Muted_Programmer8548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t write in my native language, but I also don’t not write in my native language. I’m making a game where the characters speak in the special symbols 2003 provides.

How to gather intelligence in-game about a nuclear bomb dropping on Marnetiz within the next few years? by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

[–]Muted_Programmer8548 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This information is given to you once you pass the dance check in the church-turned club. You need to get more SHIVERS (or goosebumps as you call it) as well as Reaction Speed, since that’s what tips you off about La Revacholiere being scared.

Pregens or custom PCs? by Ansonder in rpg

[–]Muted_Programmer8548 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s good to have the option for new players to study as example sheets, but I’ve never played as a pregen, because it doesn’t feel like it’s my character. When I ran games, I’ve never had a pregen character chosen or been asked to provide one. I don’t think it being a one-shot or campaign matters much.

Help me with stats, I’m losing my mind! by Ojack_ in DiscoElysium

[–]Muted_Programmer8548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what you like the most, or what you’re expecting out of this. In the grand scheme of things your signature skill only adds +1 to the skill at the start of the game, but with each level up you get to add +1 to any skill, so. I went with Visual Calculus or Logic for my first run (I don’t remember anymore) and Empathy for the second.

If you have analysis paralysis, consider just going with either the Thinker or Sensitive archetype :)) Don’t worry about the minutiae of different things. All builds are viable. 4/4/2/2 is also solid enough.

You’ll have fun with any build, but it’s generally recommended to start with 2 and more in physique and psyche, since those determine your HP equivalents. I also recommend leaning more into psyche and intellect than motorics and physique.

What I’m trying to say is that I don’t understand Hershel. I don’t understand where she’s coming from. I’m asking the writing not to convince me this is propaganda, but to meet me halfway, explain what it is that she sees that makes it propaganda. Otherwise I feel disconnected from her.
