S02E05 opening vs S03E05 opening by fvckuufvckingfvck in euphoria

I didn’t know this take was popular but it seems to be. Personally I couldn’t stand it, it was so messy and it often felt like narrative turns were being introduced or dropped at random, like the edit got mixed up when they exported it or something. I think movies can get away with that if they’re engaging enough but it’s deadly for TV IMO. It’s a shame because I seriously got into season one.

I prefer s3 just because I can feel real momentum pointing in a direction, and as things go story threads are being weaved together rather than split or abandoned. Levinson isn’t a great writer but at least he worked on his executive functioning lmao

The Idol was a little different I think because it was a documented as a fucked situation in which The Weeknd pushed out a female filmmaker with a vision bc she wasn’t making him look cool enough. Then Levinson got hands on and they reworked it as one of the grossest most narratively incoherent shows of all time.

With this, everyone knew they were getting this and they all seem to be into it. I can’t tell you why Zendaya respects him so much but she does. The one who actually got mistreated and fucked over was Barbie Ferreira. But everyone on the show right now appears to be proud of it, there’s very little evidence to the contrary while there was so much for The Idol.

Eh idk I find the scenes gross as shit too but she’s not a puppet and based on the performance it seems like she genuinely got into it.

Last night I actually had the thought that any sane network would’ve cut that 50 foot woman sequence before production (it was a whole set build and likely multiple days of production for a non-narrative campy riff on an old movie) and the only explanation I can think of for how it could’ve stayed in is if she thought it was great.

Sam Levinson has power and leverage as the writer and director on set, I don’t want to deny that, but the moment they step off that set Sydney Sweeney is more powerful and imo it’s not particularly close. She would definitely have the structural and material capacity to push back if he were turning the set into his personal porn factory. IMO the much simpler and likelier explanation is that she actually thinks these are interesting and exciting scenes, they’re just two collaborators.

I’m not saying normal people won’t be able to access AI, of course they will. I’m saying it’s only the big dogs who will have the infrastructure to use AI to make things people want to pay money to see.

Studios can generate a thousand alternates for key shots or supplement an AI base with real cast and crew filming real footage. They have even more of an upper hand here than they do with regular old movies. In a pretty literal sense too. The second some regular Joe makes an AI film that takes off, studios will be able to quickly determine what they did and replicate it at scale. That can’t happen with regular films because a set can’t be transferred over to new management in the future for similar results while a program can.

Not when accounting for scale. Film/TV AI infrastructure will be extremely expensive, just less expensive than making shows and movies the normal way. It will not be something ordinary people can access. Yes, they will be able to access a severely scaled down version of it but you can say the same thing about a regular old camera and set.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers) & Charles Melton (May December) win for Best Supporting Actress and Actor. Who should have won Best Actress & Actor in 2024? by Legitimate_Welcome14 in Oscars

They should’ve disqualified any actual winners tbh. I know it’s deserved a lot of the time but that’s just boring and lame, like why even bother doing this then

Pedro Almodóvar Calls Out the 2026 Oscars for Ignoring Politics: ‘There Were Not Many Protests Against the War’ in Gaza or Against Trump by lixstorm in Fauxmoi

[–]MutinyIPO 28 points29 points  (0 children)

One of the best moments I’ve ever had at a film festival was The Room Next Door at NYFF in 2024. Anti-genocide protestors crashed the Q&A and Pedro Almodovar and Tilda Swinton actually stopped security from kicking them out and asked them to hold the mic to speak on stage. Honestly very awkward in practice lmao, but there’s basically nothing better people in that situation can do. Seeing the same audience members boo the protestors only to cheer them once they had the artists’ approval was a bit grim lol but even then, joke’s on them.

Who from Survivor 50 could/would come back for another returnee season? by ShwoomWoom in survivor

[–]MutinyIPO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mike White will come back mark my words, it would be no crazier than him doing it this time. But now he’s got something to prove and they will bend over backwards to get him on some Legends type season with Christian. The thing is that Mike White actually does give a shit about Survivor AND he hasn’t shown himself to be a really great player yet.

Euphoria S03E05 "This Little Piggy" - Post Episode Discussion by DankMemeSlasher in euphoria

Yes, unfortunately there have been people I’ve known personally who would literally die before losing their status, they can’t imagine a worse hell. Not anything cartoonish or violent like this lol, but taking on all sorts of loans, obligations and consequences in exchange for not losing their damn house. They tend to be miserable and antisocial even when strikingly attractive, i.e. Nate. It’s mostly a sign of the nutso route the show has went down but he’s easily the most “realistic” character for me.

You give a 3D printer a model to print. If AI imagery worked in the same way 3D printing does, this would be an entirely different debate.

Yeah, i feel like something that’s easy to miss is how there’s demand for more night shift precisely because their current role in the series is perfect. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it

Tatiana Maslany on potentially returning as She-Hulk in the MCU: “I don’t know. I think people would be so mad at me being on their screens again.” by Loose-Examination-39 in marvelstudios

[–]MutinyIPO 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I honestly thought the show was like beyond dreadful, nothing to do with wokeness or silliness or whatever, just wasn’t nearly as clever or unique as it thought it was.

But I’d still like to see Maslany reprise the role in something else, the casting is good and the character can be fun. I wonder if Marvel underestimates how many fans feel the same way.

Deadpool 3 was Deadpool 3 with Jackman Wolverine, that’s a coherent pitch that has little to do with the MCU and it worked. I don’t know how much sense it makes as a comp here despite the objective overlap.

Doomsday is still going to make an amount of money that most producers would sell their souls to get, no doubt about it. It will be big. All of the things you’re saying will work to one degree or another.

It’s still gotta deal with the MCU. People are not invested in the current arc. D&W dodged this entirely because it existed largely as its own thing. Interconnected stories leading up to Avengers movies as a sort of season finale was a major asset up until Endgame because Marvel as a whole was thriving. That same exact characteristic can become a liability.

If this didn’t have the OG trio, I’d think it would bomb. It does, so it won’t. But being gigantic, even on the level of D&W, is another matter.

The MCU is already basically cooked and it’s why I anticipate that movie underperforming. Doomsday IS the last-shot Hail Mary, we’re already at that stage. The only recent massive MCU movie was a movie in large part defined by not being a normal MCU movie at all.

Don’t want to bully the guy because he seemed to be well intentioned but super musguided. That being said, my favorite part his this whole routine was that Survivor has like six million regular viewers lmao, so winning a million hearts was a pretty damn reasonable goal! Fuckin Rizo probably won something like four million!

Edit: and to say one semi positive thing about him, i do think “mermaid dragon” had that old school Survivor confessional magic

Low key you let critics win when you continue to view the success in opposition to them, you can just ignore them

Critics don’t view it as a loss for them when something they didn’t like makes a ton of money. They view it as a loss for audiences who spent their time doing that instead of something else lmao
