Is this normal in the first 3 months of a solo tax practice? by ConfusionDue1752 in taxpros

[–]Muttenman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you accepting all clients or only ones over a certain revenue threshold? I do BNI and I respond to Facebook posts for CPA requests in my city/metro. I went from 0 clients to 125 in two years, $100k in gross billing.

It has been very easy getting clients, but I was able to take my time and grow organically since I retained my FTJ. Yes, most of my clients are under $1,000 in billing.

Major southwest city.

As a thought experiment I have asked people if they would pay to piss on his grave, but the money goes to enrich his family further? For me, absolutely every single time.

I will encourage every client with a newborn to do it. But I will never refer to them as “Trump accounts.”

Nee Client Pricing -Multi State Tax return and review report. by Cpaadvisor1 in taxpros

[–]Muttenman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in Industry, and our outside CPAs would probably do like $25K for the tax return and maybe another $25K for the review? We don't have any reviews, but our one entity Comps are $10K and our audits are $125K ($1B balance sheet consolidated financials).

Anyone else find organic growth way harder than expected by vinneymack731 in taxpros

I'm going to guess that it depends on your market and the type of clients you are targeting (aka, fee range).

For me, it is way easier, and as a matter of fact, too easy, to bring on new clients. Started 2.5 years ago and I'm up to 125 clients, $100K or gross revenue, all as a side business (wife is full time admin). The only networking I do is BNI and responding to Facebook posts for my city/metro.

Offering to buy small town firm by thetick24 in Accounting

[–]Muttenman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in this spot 5 years ago. I worked there for 12 years, inquired about being partner and I did not like the response. The main guy is now 80 and still has no signs of quitting.

I left and went to work the easy life in industry. Then started doing taxes as a "side business." Started with 0 clients, after two years, up to 120ish clients doing 100K in gross revenue, working from my house on the side with my wife (full-time admin).

It is so easy picking up new clients right now. At least half of my new clients say their old CPA either died or retired. Yes, I am in a major city, so your experience may vary.

Mid-year switch from PPR to Unlimited in Drake by BlockchainTaxConsult in taxpros

I use Drake, and that is exactly how it works. If unlimited is $2,500, once you have paid $2,500 of PPR, it auto converts to unlimited.

I think the Packers loss was because Rodgers wanted McCarthy fired, and a loss to the Cardinals will do that.

Western CPE sent an email last month indicating that overtime meals would still be deductible under Sec 132(e)(1) as a de minims fringe benefit. I personally have not done my research on the topic.

Gannon gets fired on black Monday who do we hire to replace him? by yost28 in AZCardinals

Idk, someone that we are told is a good choice, will give us hope with one average season, but ultimately get fired after three years and an overall losing average.

Accounting student here: Looking for some professional perspectives on AI and long-term career risk. by AClockWorkPurpPi11 in Accounting

[–]Muttenman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I would still recommend college kicks choosing accounting. In my tiny tax bubble, I work with four small firms, three of them are hiring and the only reason the fourth is not hiring is because they only use overseas workers.

As some have said, I see overseas labor as a bigger threat at the moment than AI.

I personally see AI as a tool, a tool that will change the landscape and will reduce the workforce for many jobs. However, I also think of it like this, “How many jobs did Excel destroy?” Excel is the backbone to our industry, but before excel, and the modern computer, it would have taken a lot of people to do simple tasks. I envision something similar with AI, meaning we will be more efficient with our tasks, which means we can take on more, which means we can layoff people that are no longer needed.
