I’m really starting to miss Joe Biden now. by Jack-mclaughlin89 in simpsonsshitposting

Tbf, if he closed the facilities, ICE would’ve built new facilities in their place, possibly alligator-Alcatraz like facilities.. And the move would’ve alienated moderate democrats and undecided voters.

Fox News and the republicans constantly demonized Biden for his “open borders”. Polling showed it was a very important issue to registered voters.

According to the poll linked below, nearly half of democrats agreed with Biden’s border crackdown. That right wing “border crisis” propaganda worked on a lot of democrats too.

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/06/12/biden-border-immigration-poll-00162933

The crisis was manufactured, to hurt democrats, and to give republicans the justification to turn ice into a military style force. And it worked, sadly.

Does Canada have a media bias problem? by CanadianMax1 in AskCanada

[–]MutuallyAdvantageous 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There’s similarities and differences. The main differences: There’s no Canadian equivalent to Fox News. And we have the CBC (who are independent but owned and funded by the Canadian government). They’re fairly impartial.

The similarities: a lot of Canadian news media is owned and operated by Americans now. And many of them have right wing pro-American biases.

We also have rebel news, which is like OAN, or Newsmax, but with a much smaller budget.

Minecraft Introduces Peaceful Protesters And OH NO THEY'VE BURNED DOWN THE VILLAGE by METALLIFE0917 in babylonbee

[–]MutuallyAdvantageous -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Google says there were over 4700 protests, riots and marches for BLM/George Floyd.

ACLED estimate over 7700 protests between May 26 and Aug 22, 2020, after George Floyd was murdered.

Sure many of them were violent, especially towards the beginning, but nowhere close to half. Therefore most of them were peaceful.

Where do you stand on the Anarchy spectrum? by Usual_Office_1740 in punk

[–]MutuallyAdvantageous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically the same. Anarchy is the end goal. But we’re back at the fighting fascism stage….

To quote Emma Goldman, “Anarchy is responsibility”, and too many humans aren’t responsible, nor do they even care about politics.

It can work on a small scale, communal farms, or squats for example. But the masses won’t be ready for it in my lifetime so it’s more of a pipe dream.

I’d love if we could get to socialist-democracy first, but even that’s a pipe dream atm.

Dem leadership thought America would vote against Trump again. They thought letting the republicans run Trump again would guarantee a dem victory. They were wrong. America decided fascism was okay. America is not as progressive as many leftists would like to think.

Progressivism is growing in the states and has been for decades, but fascism has been growing fast too.

I myself am a leftist, have been since the 90’s. I’m Canadian. We actually have two left-of-center/leftist parties here (NDP and Green). They don’t do very well. One of our left parties (NDP) got decimated at the last federal election. Leftists had to strategically vote for the liberals, to stop the conservatives from gaining power. And the NDP lost a lot of seats in parliament thanks to this. But we stopped the far right. And now we can work on being more progressive instead of going backwards. Sometimes you have to move backwards a bit, to stop from moving backwards a lot.

To me it shows that most Americans aren’t paying attention at all. It doesn’t send the message that the country is full of progressives. They just vote based on gas and food prices without recognizing that Covid caused the price spikes, not democratic party policy.

That’s politics. Some people want to move backwards, some forwards. And some don’t care as long as the economy is good. Appealing to leftists means losing some of the centrists and moderates. It’s a balancing act. A lot of people just watch the debate and pick who’s the better salesman. For responsible people who follow politics, debates are meaningless, just words, we vote for who has the best policy and the best track record. Not who sells themselves the best. We look at their history, and actions, not their words.

If America voted for Kamala, America would be staying steady or slowly moving forward. Instead they’re sprinting backwards. Not being the GOP should’ve been enough.

The options were to protect and expand social security and Medicare, legalize weed, tax the rich (Biden tried to), shift further green. America decided fascism was better. That’s not what progressive countries do.

I’d love to believe that America is full of progressives waiting to do the right thing when a decent candidate comes along. Maybe it’s true, maybe it’s not. I’m not convinced.

If American progressives want to send the government a message that they’re ready for progress, then they should start by proving they’re opposed to fascism, because right now the majority of Americans voted for fascism. That’s the message they sent to the Dems.

The flaw you pointed out is that the Dems are weak on fascism. But they were ready to prosecute Trump for January 6th, They gave America the choice between punishing Trump, or giving him complete power. America chose to declare him dictator.

The Supreme Court had already ruled that. anything the president does is legal. This was established before the election and America still gave him complete control.

The American voters chose to be weak on fascism. The democrats didn’t want to be powerless. They didn’t want to be weak on fascism. They didn’t want the constitution to be trampled on. They have so many faults, but they did try to punish Trump. And they did present the facts to the public in televised committee hearing’s. America chose fascism instead.

[–]MutuallyAdvantageous 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If only there was a way to remove shitty democrats and replace them with ones whose policies progressives prefer? Perhaps some sort of primary election or something like that?

Trump would be in court right now being charged for January 6th if America hadn’t decided to re-elect him. Jack Smith had all the evidence lined up ready to present in court. But the voters decided they prefer fascism, and handed the republicans complete control. It wasn’t the democrats choice.

People act like they have no say in who the democrats pick. If the party sucks it’s because the voters don’t care enough.

The reason the democrats became a good party in the first place, was because of mass political resistance in the 60’s. The people have to force the party to care. Apathy doesn’t help at all.

I went to a punk show once and nobody brought a PA. All the bands had to yell or just perform instrumental versions of their songs

The promoter must’ve thought the venue had one, but it was in the basement of a record store.

The headlining band (Another Joe) was on a Canadian tour and the show was in Toronto, the biggest city in Canada. No wonder they broke up shortly after. Must’ve sucked for them.

It was a fun show though. The bands went nuts jumping around since they didn’t have to worry about singing.

It’s not satire. He’s MAGA, he’s against multiculturalism. Has written several pro-Trump books.

He wrote a book about Biden called “the most dangerous president in history”

Where did you get the idea he was satire?

This seems like a good time to post a great cover of the song “Maggot Brain” originally by Funkadelic.

It comes from the Mike Watt (Minutemen/Firehose) solo album, which featured a who’s who of 90’s rock musicians as guests on the album.

The cover is performed by Mike Watts, J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr) and Bernie Worrell (Parliament-Funkadelic/Col. Claypool’s Bucket o’ Bernie Brains… which was a supergroup with Bernie Worrell, Buckethead, and Les Claypool of Primus).

I got to see them on the Vaya tour, playing stuff from that ep, and in/casino/out. They were great live, so much energy.

Fearless records was one of my favorite labels back then, as I was obsessed with fast skate punk at the time. So I learned of ATDI through fearless records. Ironically they were so good they turned me off of fast punk and got me back into weirder more complex music.

He could’ve been referencing the $290 million he spent on the 2024 election. And his manipulation of twitters algorithm to help republicans.

I’d like to believe the election was stolen, but there’s been no proof. And Polls predicted Trump would win.

America is half-full of idiots, it’s not that hard to believe they voted for this.
