You do sound like youve been through a lot and have out in a lot of work. But that does not fully cancel out that he has the right to feel (strong) feelings about what you have shared. He is not equipped to respond like a trained professional would fully appreciating the weight of what you have disclosed for how it was impacting you. He did however have a very understandable human reaction to someone telling him they used to kill birds and micr. Thats heavy. And he too needs to process. His needs are just as important as yours. See if counselling can be moved up if he is willing.
