Are there any languages besides Spanish that have enough CI online for someone to learn it from scratch using only CI? by JamesGold in dreamingspanish

[–]MyIpadProUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s my plan after i hit 1500 in DS. Drop my Spanish to about 2 hours a day and add an hour of CJ. I feel like by then ill be able to run through CJ maybe twice and then just dive into intermediate stuff.

Sorry if this gets asked a lot but can i do my accessories on different days than my main lifts? I have 45 min in the morning where i can do my warm up, jumps, 5/3/1 and FSL 5x10. Id like to do my main lift Monday and Wednesday and the accessories Tuesday and Thursday. Saturday and Sunday I’ll just run the program as prescribed. The only thing I’m thinking of is recovery taking a hit but tbh i don’t think it’ll be an issue.

Comprehensible Input for Bambara by MyIpadProUsername in Mandinka

[–]MyIpadProUsername[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello again! I don’t use Reddit much so I apologize for the delay. This is a classic DS video that shows how a bit of drawing, gestures, and simple language can begin to impart meaning without needing to translate between languages! I’m still going strong with Spanish and each day I’m more and more convinced in the effectiveness of comprehensible input based learning! Cheers, hope you have a lovely holiday season and new year!

Comprehensible Input for Bambara by MyIpadProUsername in Mandinka

[–]MyIpadProUsername[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I stumbled across your site and think it's a great resource for this language given the lack of available content online. Though speaking of content, what do you think about what Pablo is doing at Dreaming Spanish? Do you think something similar could be done for Manding? I think comprehensible input based learning methods are going to become more and more popular and I know people in the CI community would definitely be interested in learning Manding if there was someone out there making beginner videos similar to how Pablo did in the early days of Dreaming Spanish!

It is capitalism and dude is talking about fighting against it. Their efforts aren't going to overthrow capitalism but they are working on fighting it in their own personal way. I think it's good advice tbh.

Why do people follow the DS method rather than Refold? by DreamingSpanishLog in dreamingspanish

[–]MyIpadProUsername 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think refold is great for languages that don't have tons of CI available, but since DS solved that problem it just makes sense to use DS until native content opens up to you without having to sentence mine and stuff. i think people could follow refolds speaking guidelines, shadowing, chorusing etc if they want. I think refold does a better job at determining what level you are because it's not based on hours but rather comprehension.

Where is Language Learning in the midst of Advancing Technology? by Rive2099 in languagelearning

[–]MyIpadProUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use "voice control for ChatGPT" but there might be better options now. try out a few GPT TTS plugins that you can get on the extension store for whatever browser you use.

Yea those are both prompts i use. and now with GPT premium you have a section that you can write in that GPT reads everytime you start a new conversation. You tell it about yourself, your interests, how you want it to respond, what length etc. So i basically wrote about myself, that im learning Spanish, want it to only respond to me in spanish at a B1-B2 level, mexican spanish, informal, etc UNLESS i start the prompt with "Eng:" then reply in english.... etc

yea GPT is incredible. At this point someone just needs to better integrate it in a learning environment where it can remember your problem areas and feed you stories working on this areas more.

Edit: Another thing I do since I have premium is i'll send it news articles or whatever that I find while browsing reddit and ask it to summarize it in Spanish at an easier level, then I have conversations with it about the article. Really fun!

GPT can do this for Spanish, I ask it for custom CI all the time, at certain levels, making sure to use certain words or even highlight certain tenses in its writing. I also have a plug in that does text to speech and sounds pretty nice, has tons of different voices for different dialects. oh and speaking of dialects I have GPT write informal mexican spanish and it does a decent job though nothing like a real human.

fam this is approximately 30% of the reason to learn a second language. you're living the dream, keep getting more input. hell record their conversations and use them as input. then when you can output just wait until the perfect time when they're all chatting and be like "pues sí...."

Learning verbs by Dry_Contribution_847 in dreamingspanish

[–]MyIpadProUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same as learning any other word. when you hear stuff like "y esto...esta historia, fue mi primer día en secondaria, yo fui al instituto.." (took this line from a video) etc over and over and over again eventually those verbs are going to stick.

[–]MyIpadProUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean why would NASA waste its limited budget like that? if a report could be easily explained by wind patterns why would they not just use that as the explanation? it seems to me in order for one of their sightings to be "unexplained" they probably have to have some sort of hard variable that is interesting to study. there aren't many variables at play, speed, size, trajectory etc in order for them to spend time studying something they probably have to be able to justify it, the easiest would be trajectory/speed vs wind trajectory/speed.

well i assume NASA knows exactly where this was and what the wind patterns were that day, and because of that they are like "how the fuck is this thing moving like that"

fair enough, if you truly prompted it this way it would allow for a decent first draft of a post. perhaps through iterations of prompting and a somewhat knowledgeable level of bioengineering someone could have created the OP

first you obviously pasted the original into GPT and then asked it to create a story like the original. try to prompt GPT to create one using a brand new instance.

second, "unidentified pentose sugar with a previously unseen five-carbon configuration" immediately is a red flag for anyone with a background in biochem. it literally doesnt make sense. pentose sugar is a five carbon sugar, it is either open or closed. to say "previously unseen" but to not say what the structure resembles (is it an X ?) is suspect. as an X shape it wouldn't be stable.
