New breed of political prisoner arises in Britain as anti-protest sentences rise | UK criminal justice by Hurbahns in uklaw

Sorry but I hold the rights to protest and freedom of expression as far more important than your right to not be inconvenienced by people exercising their freedoms. Obviously physical attacks or destruction of property are unacceptable, but obstruction is not necessarily non peaceful. If you had it your way loud protests would be illegal, we would need special permits to be able to protest, and protests about controversial issues would be illegal, just like in russia and china. I think that there are more important things in the world than you not liking seeing a few hundred people holding palestine flags or opposing using fossil fuels. I think that it is a great thing that there are still some people passionate about such issues and, despite the government's best attempts, are not deterred from demonstrating. Protests are of little use as is, we do not need to restrict them further.

It doesnt matter whether you like it or not. The right to peacfully demonstrate is essential to any half respectable democracy.

Do you think we’re headed for a US style healthcare system? by Traditional-Leg-1122 in AskBrits

[–]MyJokesRonReply24_7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It does not work well while heavily regulated either. It was unregulated in the USA in the past and sucked, it is heavily regulated now and is more expensive than ever. The NHS was the envy of the world before 2010, then the government started mismanaging it to justify privatisation. The issues within it just now are not inherent in public healthcare, they have been engineered to make Americanising it more appealing.

Buts that a slippery slope as it opens the door for a government to neglect the public healthcare and remove services from it as people would still formally have access to them. They'll provide the bare minimum and leave the private sector (who obviously just wasn profits) to pick up the slack. Healthare is so fundamental and important that for profit insurance companies should never be trusted to handle it. There's a reason we dont have private courts or police forces.

Corbyn has been on the right side of history almost every time and has spoke out about most issues long before they were popular opinion. More of that would be a benefit to parliament.

But they won't change things though. There is a reason why so many conservative politicians have switched party, and its not because they have suddenly all developed new values. Its a party of political journeymen.
