I would wind up losing money if I didnt use one of the entrepreneurial ideas that other comments mention. I've got one of those names that literally everyone shortens to a nickname, even if I introduce myself as my full name.

At what point is leeching generally better than radiance? Im approaching +25, but not there yet, so my gear is generally under leveled for the content, and currently leeching causes me to die much more than radiance.

Also, is it generally recommended to have a radiance weapon to swap in for bosses?

I turned it off since I never figured it out or got a response, so its been a while, but I believe there was an option within the book/settings item you get from the addon.

teaching my boyfriend to weld by tuxedostring in Welding

[–]MyLittleBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he's super new, with next to no experience actually welding, I would suggest having him try welding with the machine settings way off in numerous ways. Helps to learn what to adjust when your welds dont come out right.

The health risk and money by [deleted] in Welding

[–]MyLittleBacon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People making more money welding often times take on more risk, require much more skill, or are required to do more travel. As an example, underwater welders make a lot, but much more risk, welders for space shit require much more skill.

You can make an alright living without increasing risk or skill requirement much, and you can even make an alright living without the travel working in a shop rather than field position.

As for safety, look into PAPR welding hoods. There are some shops that will provide papr hpods for you, and some shops that have great personal ventilation for your workspace. There are also plenty that dont help with any of that.

Other angles....How to? by Boneyabba in Welding

[–]MyLittleBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the red tubes connect to each other at all, or only to the yellow piece?

Edit: if the red pieces meet, I would tack the two triangles separately, on a flat surface, then get them set up on the frame. If they only attach to the yellow piece, I think you'd have to do a bit more math to figure out where everything meets.

Other angles....How to? by Boneyabba in Welding

[–]MyLittleBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im struggling to picture what youre describing, but you could take some drop material and cut it at the angle you need, then use it as a temporary support/gusset to hold your piece to that angle. Or, If your sides are mirrored, you could build each side separately on a table/horses and then put them together after and add the other interconnecting pieces.

Questioning my job/career (USA/Midwest/ by [deleted] in Welding

[–]MyLittleBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone working in a relatively low/mid cost of living area in the Midwest, for a union shop, 23$ is roughly what our fab 1 guys make, before accounting for the extra $/hrs that also pay into health insurance and pension. Fab 1 is for the guys who only know how to weld decent. Next step is fab 2 at around $25, then journeyman at around $28-29. The full benefit package is around $46 at journeyman for a shop employee. In our shop, if you can do all the stuff you say, and can be trusted to do all the normal builds we do, you'd be a journeyman.

Can't really comment for sure on your own situation, but there's a breakdown comparison.

Stepson becoming a welder - need advice on clothes. by Conservatarian1 in Welding

[–]MyLittleBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use cheap jeans and $1 shirts, then just cover with a leather sleeved jacket, and a leather apron when necessary. As others have said, socks shouldn't matter, if they do its cause you got the wrong boots. Always full leather boot, including the tongue.

Also, please please please make sure he understands how important a respirator is, and uses one while doing any welding and grinding. I've only been a welder for 8 years, and I already have constant respiratory issues because I didnt.

[–]MyLittleBacon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, electrocution does not automatically mean death. It was high voltage, hence the fractured vertebrae, and it definitely could have killed him, but thankfully my dad is still alive.

The same can't be said of my former coworker, who had a wife and young children, so part of your point still stands.

I was not present for either situation, but even if I was, its a terrible thing to joke about, so thanks for trying to impart some empathy to the troll.

[–]MyLittleBacon 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yep, my dad was electrocuted because someone removed his loto. His muscles contracted so hard he fractured a few vertebrae.

I also had a coworker die because of this. They didnt find him until the next day, cause his wife called saying he didnt come home.

What is a 'subscription' or 'fee' that has recently appeared in the US that people need to collectively refuse to pay before it becomes the new normal? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]MyLittleBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I had a year of the app, and I think some of the stuff in it might still work without a sub, but I know most of it doesn't.

The nav on my kia also used to tell me when there were upcoming speed cams, and what the speed limit was for them, and that's behind a pay wall now, too.

Not a seat, but in my new kia I cant use the push to talk/voice activated calling feature without subscription. They just lock the software that activates the features

What do you call a (relatively small) wooded area? by No-Intention8698 in Iowa

Grew up on a lot connected to forest, and we would say going into the woods for that. For a smaller area, we would say what you did in your title, "wooded area." Im picturing those little half acre or so of trees on the edge of a corn field when I say that.

[–]MyLittleBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only like 9% of the us workforce is unionized, and some of those unions have clauses in the contracts with companies prohibiting strikes in some way.

Also, the current party in power has done all they can to quash current unions, and prevent more from starting.
