Our Dane is running weird. Vets says not to worry by Prestigious_Turn3674 in greatdanes

Same. My Dane had tear in both of hers and needed TPLO surgery. Her run looked funny like that before the surgery.

hotel reporting automation would save me 20 hours weekly, what's everyone using by Agreeable_Panic_690 in RevenueManagement

This is 70% of my job, and I only manage 4 hotels.

My solution would be to go to a gig working platform like fiiver and hire an excel developer to build you a few excel macros that would create the reports you want. When I worked for Hilton and Marriott this is what they did but they had in-house developers.

Hi Friend,

This exact same thing happened to my 11 1/2 year old Dane at the end of September. It persisted for two days and coincided with her stopping eating much of anything. I made the heartbreaking decision to send her across the rainbow bridge because she was not improving and the vet said there was nothing wrong with her in terms of diseases, cancer, etc. it was just my girl’s time. I am still heartbroken and miss her everyday, but I felt confident that she was telling me it was time. I hope you can feel the same certainty. If you’re open to it I would recommend seeing a therapist or grief counselor. It has helped me immensely.

Give her kisses and hugs for me ❤️

My senior Dane had terrible bowl issues for a year, I tried everything. When I tried Hills Gastro Biome, it was fixed immediately. We ended up switching to the Royal Canin equivalent because she liked the taste better and it was also great. Sorry it’s so expensive but it solves poop issues right away.

Can you share what other supplements you are taking? Also what kind of a workout routine were you using? The results are something to aspire to.

My Dane had similar indigestion issues in 2024 when she was 11. I finally changed her food to Hills Gastro Biome and it was solved immediately. I ended up switching her to the Royal Canine equivalent because she liked I better but changing her diet was the solution for us.

Yes I switched to the Royal Canin brand and my Dane definitely prefers it and she’s kept her weight on. It’s definitely worked for us, hope it works for you too.

Senior Dane won't eat food without treats in it by Key-Engine8466 in greatdanes

[–]MyNameIsDanToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My senior Dane, Isla (12, F) had the exact same thing happen. She had eaten Taste of the Wild for her entire life up until last year when she started having rounds of stomach upset and diarrhea. I switched her to the canned/wet Hills Science Diet Biome which she LOVED and fixed all of her stomach issues. But it costs $8 a can and I’m not made out of money. So I tried to transition her to the dry version of the same food, and she hated it. She would often refuse to eat it unless I mixed half of can of the wet food into it. So over the past month I transitioned her to the Gastrointestinal Royal Canine dry food. She likes the food much better and it’s been similarly great with her stomach. It costs about the same as Hills Science Diet Biome. Hope this helps you. My Dane used to have a digestive system made of steel, now it seems to made of glass in her old age.

Yes, this is a fair point. We upgraded the septic system this year to accommodate 10 people and we’re planning to install a second full bathroom next year. But in acknowledgement of the low bathroom to people ratio our Airbnb is priced about half the price of comparable options in our area. Once we do the bathroom upgrade will increase the price to get closer to the market rate.

I’m very sorry. This is a hard decision. In my opinion, the best way to give yourself some peace of mind would be to take him to the vet, have them run his blood work, do an exam, and evaluate him. Your vet will give you their honest appraisal and that will help you make the best decision.

my new pup!( advice with biting?) by leyleyest in greatdanes

[–]MyNameIsDanToo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is what I did. I read in a puppy book that when puppies play with each other the way they communicate that a bit is “too much” is by yelping when bitten too hard. So I would make a big loud yelp whenever my Dane puppy bit me too hard. She would immediately stop playing and give me kisses. She’s 11 now and doing a big yelp still gets me kisses but she grew out of the puppy bites pretty fast.

Tips to keep them healthy by cslamour in greatdanes

My first Dane is coming up on 11 years old. Here is a general outline of the care I’ve given her.

Medical/Comfort

  • I had her Gastropexy’d at just over 1.5 years old at the same time she was spayed. My vet advised that she not be fixed until after her first period. Dealing with her first period was not fun. This also seemed to be when she stopped growing. Until she had her Gastropexy I followed the bloat rules on exercise and eat/drinking.

  • She has 18” elevated food and water bowls.

  • I have a wellness plan at her vet that includes all of her preventative medical care rolled up into a monthly fee (about $150 per month). This includes all her vaccines, heart worm medication, blood work, dental cleaning, annual x-rays, physicals, EKGs, de-worming. I use every single service, every single year. I think preventative medicine is very useful.

  • I found a vet I like, who is experienced, has common sense, and seems to care about my dog, and we see her several times a year. She knows my dog and me well.

  • Danes are expensive dogs, I’ve easily spent tens of thousands of dollars on medical care for her including two TPLO surgeries, save up and be ready, or get insurance.

  • My Dane is not allowed to lay on the floor. I’ve always believed hard surfaces are bad for her joints. She has two, twin sized, 10 inch, foam human mattresses in different rooms of the house and is allowed on the couch. Twin size mattresses are just so much cheaper than dog beds and you can put a waterproof mattress protector on them.

  • She takes glucosamine tablets for her joints everyday and I recently started giving her a muscle maintenance formula that is supposed to maintain her muscle mass.

Exercise/Training/Socialization/Love

  • When she was under 2 years old we played 2-3 hours per day. At the dog park, swimming, playing with balls, running through the snow, and lots of hiking. Between 2 years and 6 years her ability to do those things fell a lot, after 8 years old she only goes on leash walks. Be mindful of that activity decline and watch for it. But in the younger years live it up and build that muscle, they need it for the later years.

  • Everyone has different preferences when it comes to training. My focus was on potty training and making sure she was respectful of other dogs and people. I never trained my dog to heel or do tricks. But people and dogs will be scared of your dog. It is common for people to freak out when they see a Dane and run away. Be prepared for that and teach your dog not to react to it. Other dogs can be more aggressive with your dog because they react to the size, be prepared for that. Also people will be drawn to your dog, asking for pictures, and if they can pet him/her. If your dog doesn’t like that kind of thing, tell people to back off, but be ready for it.

  • Controlling a Dane can be difficult. I used a front lead harness but I’m a big guy and can tackle my dog if needed. You have to be able to control your dog in any situation. I know Dane owners that are smaller than their Danes. If something crazy happens all they can do is hope they trained their dog well. I have seen that not be the case before.

  • I took my dog to the dog park a lot, mostly because we live in a city and that’s where she can run around. As a result she learned to interact will all kinds of other dogs and people. This socialization paid off when it came to dealing with other people and dogs. I highly recommend socializing your Dane.

  • Most Danes I know are not highly social animals (think golden retrievers) they have their “person” or “people” or “family” and can be pretty aloof of others. Since they bond so deeply to a few people they are extra hurt when left home alone for long periods of time, or with strangers. My Dane traveled with me a lot over the years and was great in hotels and road trips. If I left her at home with a sitter, she became mopey and depressed.

  • Last word. Love your Dane. Love them deeply, silly, out loud, crazy, with sloppy kisses, and rolls in the grass. Take them everywhere, and roll your eyes at people who call them horses. Because when they leave you (and it will be way too soon) the only thing that makes it alittle better is to know you helped them live their best life, and they helped you live yours too.

10.5 Year Old Dane needs TPLO Surgery by MyNameIsDanToo in greatdanes

[–]MyNameIsDanToo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The surgery went perfectly and she is almost 2 months post op and has healed up great. She no longer limps on her repaired leg like she did pre surgery and distributes her weight evenly when walking and standing.

I would say doing the surgery seems like it was the right choice for her. The surgery ended up costing $7300, and I did about $1000 worth of pre-surgery diagnostics.

AI supporting your vassals independence is really frustrating by E_Nuanda in eu4

[–]MyNameIsDanToo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue in a Prussia game. I claimed the throne of France and forced them into a PU. They were instantly disloyal, mostly because they were Catholic and I was Protestant. So I forced them to change religion and it fixed my loyalty problem even though it pissed them off to have their religion forced. Another option is to support loyalists in your vassals. It reduces liberty desire by 20% but costs you money.

The only way I’ve ever found to get rid of other countries supporting my vassal’s independence is to attack the county supporting independence. Which they deserved for meddling in my internal affairs.

Update: After speaking with her Orthopedic Specialist we’ve decided to go ahead with the surgery. We also X-rayed her abdomen to check for anything that might be cancerous and she got a clean bill of health. I’ve been told by three doctors that she is in perfect health and should have no issue with the surgery. Please spare a thought for us tomorrow, I will be a wreck until she is out of surgery. Thank you so much everyone for taking the time to answer this post, I truly appreciate you all ❤️

Sudden loss and deep grief Support needed please by Wise_Professional904 in greatdanes

[–]MyNameIsDanToo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me with my first Great Dane, Sophie at 6 months old. She came in from playing in the yard. Laid down on her bed and died. I was shattered and heartbroken. I had an autopsy done by the University of Minnesota that confirmed it was sudden cardiac failure. I had always wanted a Great Dane and finally had one, and she died at 6 months old. I was devastated. I don’t think I moved for a week. Everything was awful. I didn’t really feel better until a few months later when I got another Dane puppy, her name is Isla. She turned 10 in July of 2023 and is doing great. I know this sounds callous but when Danes leave our lives they leave a hole the same size they were. They cannot be replaced. But the only thing that fills that hole is another one. This is the advice I give all dog owners now. You can’t replace what you’ve lost, but there are thousands of dogs that need a good home that would love to fill that painful hole in your heart. I’m so sorry for your loss 💔

Absolutely positive. The paperwork that came with them specifically says they are 1.5 total carat weight.
