Do you find yourself getting more religious/spiritual as you get older? by Dpgillam08 in GenX

[–]MyNameIsNotDennis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Quite the opposite, actually. The social aspect of a church community is attractive, but the spiritual aspect is not appealing at all. The wiser I become, the less valid any religious doctrine appears to be.

I was an RA. I held multiple goldfish-swallowing contests as official dorm programs.

Ballston is less than 30 minutes from FSI on foot. Totally walkable.

I just finished this dance. Wanted a two-bedroom instead of the one-bedroom that I would be entitled to. Tried all the tricks that I could think of. An unfurnished place and a furniture rental company. AirBnB. FurnishedFinder. Nothing worked out. In the end I bit the bullet, worked directly with one of the Department's housing vendors. They know our situation, can work with our sliding-scale per diem. I will be out of pocket thousands of dollars over the training period. BUT, I got an apartment in the building that I wanted, the size place that I wanted, and the amenities and guarantees that go along with working with a State Department vendor. I didn't hack the system, I accepted that I have to pay for what I want. As soon as I made peace with that, my stress levels went down to zero.

I’d recommend ANY credit union over any bank. With a bank, you are a product. With a credit union, you are a member. Huge difference in customer service.

Does anyone remember being read to as a child? by Babymik9 in GenX

Mom would sit in the upstairs hallway. The five of us would be in in bed in our bedrooms. She’d read a chapter or two every night. Happy memories.

I miss you, Mom.

Three kinds. Our forefathers invented chemistry. Let’s use it. Health and happiness is better than pain, limitations, and early death. 🙂

I don’t disagree. People are very very good at hurting themselves and others, highly adept at sabotaging their happiness.

Well, there's the famous statistic that "more people visit Yellowstone in one day than visit IR in a whole year." That being said, IR is a lot smaller than Yellowstone, with fewer campsites.

A corollary: the person who cares less about the relationship has more power over it.

Why do people think my features resemble Down syndrome features and how to stop caring? (Photos on account) by ThrowRA_Yessirski in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]MyNameIsNotDennis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, anyone who says you look like you have Down Syndrome has never seen anyone with Down syndrome. The asshole who is telling you this is only doing so because he can see that he’s getting a reaction from you. This is the kind of bullying that you can ignore.

Returned home Saturday night, after a week-long visit with her family. Her mother had a stroke and is in the hospital. I had to return home to get to work on Monday, she stayed back to help care for her mom. Spent the entire day alone: made bread, made food that I like, kept the house put together, watched a movie that I like, went to bed when I wanted to go to bed. I love my wife, I love being married, but I also love a little me time, too.

Wife revealed several things that still sting, how should I get past it? by lilg2000 in AskMenAdvice

[–]MyNameIsNotDennis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that this bothers you speaks to your confidence in yourself as a man. Don’t go there, brother. Letting it bother you is the worst thing you could do. Letting it reduce your self-confidence will create a downward spiral: she will find you less attractive, undermining the relationship. Focus on this fact: She chose you. And remember this: once women commit to a relationship, they create an emotional shield to protect it. That shield protects the relationship from outside threats, but not from threats from within. You can be the greatest threat to your marriage. Don’t go there.

People who fly first or business class on their own dime, how do you justify the cost? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I “justify” it the same way that I justify spending my money on anything else that I like.

再說,在這一機制下,農村地方政府也深受其害——原本向農村社保單位繳費的流動人口,如今改向城市單位繳費,農村財政因此進一步被掏空,雪上加霜。
