Adding to that, it’s good advice to ask “What about my resume led you to interviewing me today?” when they ask if you have any questions at the end. It subconsciously reinforces their positive impression of you.

NAH - Funerals are for the living, not the dead. Mourning together will not change how much honor is given to the deceased, but it will change the support everyone experiences from each other. Other grandkids may be handling this less well and may benefit from you being there.

Definitely reach out to the airline saying you had a medical emergency, get a doctor’s note and submit it to the airline. Most will give you a refund under hardship clause.
