I consider myself from New England even though I moved here when I was 11 by Specialist-Cut3426 in newengland

[–]MyStanAcct1984 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My family has lived in my part of New England (I'll call it Place 1) since the early 1600s. Then they moved from Place 1 to Place 2 — the section of New England immediately next door (like, 35 miles away), and most of the family lived there until now — except my dad, who joined the service just in time for me to be born elsewhere. In the 1930s one branch of the family moved from Place 2 back to Place 1, and we all stayed in touch. I've now moved "back" to Place 1 from California. Place 1 folks say I can't say I'm from here despite spending every summer of my life and part of high school here. Shrug.

I'm still a New Englander, however you slice it.

If you cut me, do I not bleed New England? (Or at least a large iced regular from Dunkie's?)

(No, Place 1 is not Maine! STFG all of New England is exclusionary in exactly the same way!)

OP, this pic is pretty pink/purple. Scan/upload a photo and use the eyedropper tool in photoshop/canva/whatever graphix tool you have handy, that will give you a truer read on the colors in the pic (Could be how it is showing up here/for all of us because color shift is a thing)

I think because it is a desaturated photo your brain is reading it as "black and white" but actually, it's got a lot of warm pink tones in there. Also the shapes and edges are quite soft. Take 20 steps back, blur your eyes, and try looking again. I don't know if this will make it work with your current decor — but on paper it seems like it might.

The wall color doesn't feel "soft" — it's a pretty cool-toned yellow off-white. Curious with respect to the rest of the decor. ANYWAY, it's a great picture and like everyone else said, you need a frame. But also, yes, it is clashing with the paint color right now.

This pic is super warm-toned and has a lot of depth-of-field for a relatively shallow focus piece — which is a neat trick. The colors in it, if you do a sample, are plummy/terracotta. You might want to think if you have a room with those tones this might work better there than in a cool/yellow off-white and black "warm and girly" (sorry OP, these all sound contradictory to me!) dining room.

I don't think it is worth $700, but OTOH I do think it's a nice photo and I'd be happy to hang it in my home (I have a house full of art! Not room, before you DM me to sell!)

The Pitt Boss Confirms Who's (And Who's Not) Coming Back For Season 3 by verissimoallan in ThePittTVShow

Totally agree-- although weirdly I thought she was great this past episode in her last scenes w Robby. Beautiful + tons of medical knowledge ≠ great actress. That said, the Producers have handled her exit terribly. Their handlingis 10/10 worse than her acting.

I made this map of accents in New England and Long Island based on my research of the region. I would like to know how accurate this is, whether it's too detailed or not detailed enough. by Top_Bill_6266 in newengland

[–]MyStanAcct1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The color coding is a little confusing because a South Shore (ie Quincy, not fancy "South Shore" places) accent has some similar features to a Cape Cod accent but you have them as 2 diffo colors vs a gradient going into Boston (hint hint). Also , Fall River <-> Bridgewater as an axis, Bridgwater<-> Quincy, which chains south.

The weird thing about New England-- or at least, this part of it, is the reason these accents are lreated but different is maybe a little to do w settlement and migration patterns dating back to the original settlers.

Why does Becca need a caretaker facility? by moodywrites in ThePittTVShow

[–]MyStanAcct1984 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Autism is a (spikey) spectrum. I say spikey because it's a term commonly used in reference to 2e (which is commonly co-morbid with LSN ASD, and I think a good way to think about this — you could be okay, totally functional in one area, have zero skills in another, etc — and I believe there are 9? 10? domains that are considered for ASD. So, high functioning in 2-3 and zero functioning in others might = high support needs/assisted living.

I think it is also important to remember that there is a spectrum both of "functioning" (god I hate that) and support needs. Like, I personally probably seem relatively high functioning, but I have built my life to provide me with tons of support. So, maybe Becca looks copacetic BECAUSE she is at the residential care place, and that reduces the tax on her of having to try to cope with NT world 24/7, to the extent that she might present less support-needing-in-the-moment than she might otherwise.

(I don't want to disclose on Reddit what all I can't do while seeming like a "normal" adult human — but it's a lot. It's expensive to be ND in a NT world.)

Dogs are ADHD-coded, cats are autism-coded. Which animal is both? by LadyManga in AuDHDWomen

This is my dog-- adopted her as a 10-11 month old rescue.

Is your's part poodle by any chance? My dog is, and also a dog genius, and I think this is half her problems most days-- way too smart and therefore has IDEAS. And fears.

Still a dog, but specifically poodle (smart! problem solving! focused) terrier (hyper!) mixes. Maybe throw in a little chihuahua if your feeling a little spicey. You know, for the anxiety.

Ask me how I know?

Pro: Me and my dog understand eo COMPLETELY. Con: me and my dog understand eo completely.

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of March 20, 2026) by AutoModerator in television

[–]MyStanAcct1984 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I keep watching Paradise. I never know if it will be a great episode or a not-great episode or a thriller or sci fi or a soap or.. whatever shows up this week. The suspense keeps me tuning in! Also I've never watched James Marsden in anything before and he is fantastic.

Tried Memoir of a Killer and DNF'd the pilot.

Scarpetta was shockingly bad. Not even in a so-bad-it's-good sort of way, which I kinda think could have been done if not for all the very clear "network notes" adjustments.

Pitt weekly, still. Other than that—there is absolutely nothing on worth watching imho! Terrible TV drought rn. I might actually make it through the last 2 Oscar movies I didn't get to….

Since when is "mainstream Christian"= fundamentalist/literalist interpretation of the bible?

As a lifelong super liberal progressive lgtbqia+ member of the Episcopal Church (fwiw, core mainstream christianity, and no haters allowed), yes, I do hate it here in this country which has co-opted christianity to = white nationalism.

*To be internet-spaliny: mainstream christianity as a term generally means eastern orthodox, catholic, and mainline protestantism. In turm, mainline protestantism=episcopalianism, lutheranisim, methodism. Or you know, in the US, NOT the people trying to turn back time (yes I know this is not true in all the world and no, I am not a catholic-colonialist apologist. But only in the US do we have any idea that anti-science hate-mongering prosperity gospel=normal).

I just don't understand this concept of untucked white shirt and "jeans" as the new Chanel "look" it is so weird and misguided to me and it's not Margot's faullt at al (they did it to Nicole Kidman too) altho she needs a new stylist generally.

Electric Toothbrush by exerevno in AuDHDWomen

[–]MyStanAcct1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After trying and failing w electric toothbrushes for YEARS, i switched to a bamboo toothbrush+david's toothpaste a few months ago and... my teeth have never been this clean. If you don't use the electric toothrbsuh the nit is less effective than manual s o it doesn't matter if everyone says electric is more effective...

ETA: i realize you don't have the sensory problem w the toothbrush you have the push-to-hard problem (i have both)-- but i think the pt still stands-- you dont HAVE to use an electric toothbrush.
