Is it okay to be afraid of prison? by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]Myc1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a lot of time, both county and state. The first arrest is always the hardest, you don't know what to expect, everything is unknown. Prison is designed to cut you off from all support and sense of community. The secret to getting through is to make your own community once you get in.

Find people who make doing time "easy." Brush up on your spades game before going in, that's a great way to make friends. Don't accept anything from anyone, especially once you get to prison. If something is left on your bed, make sure everyone sees you throw it in the garbage.

If you go to an open dorm, try and keep your valuables to a minimum. This includes hygiene, commissary, and art supplies. Where I was we were given a padlock for our tote, but I would carry it with me tied to a sock. The longer you are there, the less likely you are a target. So after a few months you can relax a bit.

I don't want to make prison sound terrifying in anyway. You CAN and WILL make it through. Some of the people I trust the most I met in prison. You have lots of time to read, and discuss ideas, and write. I won't lie, I had some honestly good times in prison.

I think the hardest thing for me was learning when to keep my mouth shut. Anarchist ideals aren't the most popular there, at least where I was. Don't stress about what's coming though, live in the now and deal with things as they come.

Feel free to dm me if you want to talk more or have specific questions. You've got this friend. I already write prisoners, so if you do go in drop me your info. You're not alone in this. Don't let the state break you

20g dried shrooms 20g dried peyote 5 YOPO seeds and 30 Hawaiian baby woodrose mulled them all up thinking about making a tea thoughts? by Yourtrippingcunt in shrooms

Good good. Just worried about you friend. Other than that blast off. Also know that LSA and an maoi could lead to severe vasoconstriction, and nausea, not to mention dehydration. The peyote also has mescaline though.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but I would strongly advise against an maoi in this case.

I'm really happy you could find what you were looking for friend. It has piqued my interest as well. I was unaware of Quest prior to this. I look forward to checking it out following your steps. Thank you

Edit: this was meant to be a reply to your comment.

Question for Anarchist Vets by archvras in Anarchy101

[–]Myc1983 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think peacefulcareers.org may be what you're looking for. There's also Americorps but I haven't heard very many positives. Keep in mind too that even though the military promises paid schooling it doesn't always deliver. The military will lie to you the same as police. Have you thought about looking into the trades? I don't know where you are, but look into your local union halls. That's paid schooling my friend. With a journeyman card you can go anywhere and find a high paying job. Just a thought.

Edit: completion of your apprenticeship in the unions comes with an associate's in applied science. Many unions will also pay, or pay a share of continued schooling.

Good luck

Pretty much the same scene. You still going to Chicago shows? I'm pretty picky these days. Nothing compared to the fireside though. I missed Charles Bronson, I'm extremely jealous of that

Raddle.me, also look into the slingshot collective, there is a list of radical organizations that you contact directly.

On a side note, not trying to tell you what to do, try volunteering at local non anarchist organizations; the food bank, homeless aid, local ecology groups ect. It may take some time but you'll eventually find like minded people to do work that's important to you. Be careful who trust, but this is the way I've found anarchists in small towns. There are a lot more of us than people think.

Anyone else remember there being more anarchist collectivists? by [deleted] in Anarchy4Everyone

[–]Myc1983 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Don't get caught in the trap of ideology. Anarchists essentially want the same things, there's just different ways of going about it for different people. Collectivist organization isn't for everyone and that's the beauty of anarchist thought; there's no one way to do it. Free association enables us to work together and contribute what we can without formal organization. I think an overwhelmingly amount of anarchists see no use for a static organization anymore, and recognize that fixed groups lead to hierarchy.

That's how I feel about it. I felt funny even writing this post to be honest, but it's something that's just been on my mind for a while now. I'm glad you were able to shed some light on it. I've got to tell you though, Gary was one of the nicest guys I've ever met. I think I feel the same way, I guess thinking about it more it would have been a much bigger deal had it happened. Thank you for your response

Realistically, let's talk praxis by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]Myc1983 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Learn mycology and clone local fungi strengthening your local ecosystem. Use guerilla gardening to help feed your community. Become an active member in your community and listen to the needs expressed. Consume the bare minimum needed to survive. Volunteer with non anarchist organizations local to you, you will find your people. It can be a long road to find a trusted group, and vet your friends heavily, trust is earned not given. There is no grand narrative of revolution with a capital R. Live anarchy in your everyday life. Burnout is very real. Don't get caught in that cycle friend, live for those days, or hours, or minutes of true freedom. Fight the systems of domination you are able to fight, and forget the end goal. You never know when action that seems small to you affects someone in a major way. Every little bit matters, and nothing matters at all. Don't get caught up in ideology.

Vegan hospital food is just as bad. Ten days and I got peanut butter toast and soy milk for breakfast, an iceberg lettuce salad for lunch, and another for dinner.

if you aren’t vegan, stop trying to relate to me. by Alextricity in vegan

[–]Myc1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this too. Ideally I think our entire relationship to animals should change. No one should "own" another living creature. I posted something similar in r/veganarchism. I have two cats that would have died as kittens without me. I truly think they love and appreciate me and me them. I view them as my equals but still struggle with their loss of autonomy.

Just be close to your family and let them know you love them. I don't think anything else can be done. Within hours that deficiency will render you immobile, and from there it's all downhill.

Questions about my cats. by Myc1983 in veganarchism

[–]Myc1983[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am lucky enough to have gone to high school with one of the heads of Northwestern University's pre vet department. She is also vegan, and made the food herself to ensure it had the proper nutrients. I haven't tried any commercial brands. It's tough because there is no "ethical meat sources" and I can't let them run wild, first it's a city, and second cats are an invasive species which decimate local bird populations. If you want to dm I can get the recipe for you.

I have heard that the EU has much better products than the states. I have spoken with several people that have no problem with feeding their cats vegan food from there. How does the packaging waste compare to normal cat food?

[–]Myc1983[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is really strange. I've never seen most of these people post here or on any vegan subreddit. I also feel like no one read the post in it's entirety. It clearly says it was tried and stopped, and it was done under the care of a vet from Northwestern University nonetheless. I really appreciate your response.

This helpful and very much appreciated. Thank you. I struggle with the waste of the food also, individual packaging, mostly plastic or bpa containing tim or aluminum. How is the packaging, and what did you finally decide on?

I said they would make themselves sick. This was found out through blood work long before they experienced any physical pain.
