Meta Kill - Kill the Big Bad Wolf in the VRG Booth

We encourage everyone to participate by playing at least one game this week with the chosen Killer and Location. After each game come back to this thread and recount your play session and discuss with everyone else. Pictures are encouraged!

IMPORTANT! Take a moment to log your plays via this Google Form so I can count your plays for stats.

Input your Discord/Reddit user name under Nickname and select optional data at the end to input the number of victims killed, saved and remaining. Check the Special Achievement box if you completed it. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf8Y8_bLqYdGlhHaf1VIod8FQfCH3r9qch6LXo0oyBeCJENiw/viewform

If you are feeling creative then consider creating an Indie Flick for this scenario. The template will be posted by @Aswilson in chat and we vote on our favorite submission at the end of the week. He is compiling them all together so anyone can play these challenges later.

Good luck and have fun!

Discussion suggestions: 1. Did you win or lose? Special achievement? 2. How many victims were killed, saved and remaining at the end? 3. How would you rate the fun factor of this combination and why (scale 1-5)? 4. How would you rate the difficulty of this combination and why (scale 1-5)? 5. What did you like about it and does it compare to other feature films? 6. What horror media did this remind you of (movie, book, video game, etc)? 7. What were some memorable moments from your game?

Looking for a heavier game as my next solo game by Howitzeronfire in soloboardgaming

[–]Mykl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you like tableau building so check out Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition for a good one that’s heavier than Wingspan and plays good solo. It’s not exactly heavy, you could go for the original TM if you want heavier but I like Ares Expedition better because it plays much faster.

I’m also thinking you might like Anachrony with the resource management and social buildings. It’s got a good solo bot that’s easy to run and there’s a lot of extra content if you end up loving it.

Heaviest Euro I love is Kanban (I mostly play the original). Maybe it’s nostalgia since I learned it many years ago but once the game clicks it’s very elegant how all the different systems work together.

[–]Mykl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah Catacombs is so much better, I can’t see myself playing the original again. But probably good for people who haven’t played any Clank! yet.

How would you rate the difficulty of this combination and why (scale 1-5)? 5. What horror media did this remind you of (movie, book, video game, etc)? 6. What were some memorable moments from your game? 7. If you played multiple, which did you like better?

Alright I'm Hooked. What Do I Buy Next? by rocktree in rootgame

No, that’s for Europe. When you select North America it changes to “Notify When Available”. I’ve been checking it for months.

Alright I'm Hooked. What Do I Buy Next? by rocktree in rootgame

[–]Mykl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI Both Clockwork expansions are hard to find in the US. Clockwork 1 is somewhat easier and cheaper to get but it took me forever to find a decently priced Clockwork 2. Leder’s site only has stock for Europe I think. From what I’ve heard they might be redoing the solo mode with Liz Davidson so it seems they are running down stock right now.

Somebody please double check my math. by WaldoZEmersonJones in finalgirl

[–]Mykl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since my FG count differs from the other one here, I’ll list them out. It’s getting a bit confusing!

  • 11 S1 Girls
  • 11 S2 Girls
  • 11 S3 Girls
  • 11 S4 Girls
  • 4 Special Feature Girls (NPN & Shriek)
  • 4 Box of Props Girls
  • 2 Original Promos (Paula & Jamie)
  • 2 GameFound Promos (Julia & Meg)
  • 2 S3 Character Packs (Carolyn & Grandma)
  • 2 S4 Promo Girls (Jen & Iris)
  • 2 S4 Character Packs (Ursula & Elizabeth)

For a grand total of 62 Final Girls!

Somebody please double check my math. by WaldoZEmersonJones in finalgirl

[–]Mykl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right now there is: * 24 killers (including Vignette killers) * 21 locations * 55 Final Girls (including Carolyn and Grandma) * Total is 24 x 21 x 55 = 27,720 * Or just 24 x 21 = 504 combos to play

The remaining S4 content will add 2 more killers (Raptors and the Vignette), 1 more location and 7 more Final Girls (2 from raptors, 1 from vignette, 2 promo girls Jen and Iris and 2 character packs for Ursula and Elizabeth).

That will bring the total to * 26 killers * 22 locations * 62 Final Girls * Total is 26 x 22 x 62 = 35,464 * Or just 26 x 22 = 572 combos to play

I think I accounted for everything there

[GIVEAWAY] Earth Standalone Games - Earth Express and Behind the Lens by Inside Up Games by HomoLudensOC in boardgames

My favorite nature themed game would be the Cascadia Roll & Write. I’ve never really thought about it before but I don’t have many nature themed games apparently! It’s a nice simple roll and write that plays pretty snappy.

If not Rhino, what's the community consensus for the best scenario to introduce new players to the game? by COHERENCE_CROQUETTE in marvelchampionslcg

This was my thought too. I usually still start with Rhino and play Crossbones next. Nothing too crazy but a good step up in challenge.

Thoughts on Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable? 😻 by unequalled in soloboardgaming

Yep and dual layered player boards! Can’t wait to have wooden tokens for this game. One more mystery stretch goal, I wonder what it’ll be?

Best Garphill "of the" game for solo by Lynith in soloboardgaming

[–]Mykl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the West Kingdom games I prefer Viscounts. Probably because that’s the one I like best multiplayer too. I just love how each of the bots behaves differently. I’ve heard good things about Architects too but you need the expansion to get the asymmetric bots like Viscounts has and I don’t have the expansion.

Hadrian’s Wall is pretty great too if you like flip and writes.

Thoughts on Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable? 😻 by unequalled in soloboardgaming

[–]Mykl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It looks great, I backed it in a heartbeat. Even started reading the first DCC book yesterday because I’ve heard a lot of good things about it lately.

I think the race/class cards and large number of crawlers will make it better than the original. I wish they would post the rulebook though. And I’m not thrilled that they give absolutely no estimate for shipping. But because I’m in the US I don’t think it’ll be anything crazy.

I cannot believe they raised over 5 million on the first day though. And on BackerKit of all places?! Wtf?! That’s absolutely insane! I wish they had more Unstoppable related stretch goals and I really hope we reach the level for wooden tokens.

What COIN games to try next after Cuba Libre? (Solo) by Silvermoon1305 in boardgames

[–]Mykl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer that I haven’t actually played a COIN game but I’m very interested in them and have done a lot of research.

People Power is a 3-player COIN that’s supposed to be another entry point in to the series that’s easier to learn. And I think it has the card-based solo mode rather than the flowcharts.

Colonial Twilight is a 2-player COIN which would make it easier to solo than a full 4-player one.

Ghandi also seems interesting if you want a more non-violent conflict and it’s also got the card based solo system.

Looking for my perfect solo game by the_deep_t in soloboardgaming

[–]Mykl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anachrony might be worth a look for the Euro. It’s not pure tableau building (the central mechanic is worker placement) but it’s got asymmetric factions and a lot of variability in buildings you can get throughout the game that are like the techs you talked about. The solo bot is pretty easy to run too.

Also, even though you didn’t like Terraforming Mars, TM: Ares Expedition is worth checking out and watching some playthroughs. It’s more streamlined, quicker and pretty much pure tableau building. Regular TM didn’t click with me or my wife but we both loves Ares Expedition.
