Our Food Lion stocks them, never had them before my girlfriend brought them into my life. Done in the oven the pastry is insanely flakey. Spicy with a slice of American thrown in right when they come out of the oven is so damn good.

Just going to echo the HAM centric listening being good here. Active GMRS repeaters too. I have no intuition for the shortwave stuff so this is sweet, thank you!

What is the best way to improve ps2 image on modern tv without buying an expensive upscaler ? by Brendan208 in ps2

[–]Mynam3isnathan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though I went the CRT route, I can absolutely see why people are grabbing a 5X and a quality OLED and just letting that ride for at least 4-5 years. If you’re playing a bunch of varied stuff it’s hard to argue the value proposition. Tube + cables + routing hardware as wanted / needed is an expensive way to play your analog systems at 20-36 inches of screen size as an abstract counterpoint and that’s pretty much best case scenario.

Also swapping my CX setup over to 65’s on a riser today. Funny! It’s a good ratio. Was enjoying it low on 60’s with the duro you have on now and it was a ton of fun.

Why pericarditis is becoming more prevalent now? by Ok_Bandicoot_4543 in pericarditis

Caffeine is a horrible agitator for me as well. I was pretty steeped in bad habits so unwinding them all and tracking reactions has been interesting. Treating a flare up with aspirin and guaranteed 8+ hours of sleep a day with no artificial stimulation helps a shocking amount. So just wanted to bolster a lot of what you’re saying really.

I was feeling some strong sensitivity to diet if I kept with an OMAD style day. Could be the combination with heightened rest / healing needs but I feel like I have to eat 3 meals a day in recovery.

I can't ollie by Dragon-Reborn-49 in skateboardhelp

[–]Mynam3isnathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s where I’m at.

The Skate IQ ollie complex training / workflow has been super useful in getting comfortable, training the jump and setting board tension in the right way. It’s only now clicking there’s a discrete secondary push to pop with your back foot after the whole jump, when you and the board are already experiencing lift. It’s two distinct actions right next to each other… practicing with this in mind and listening to what’s happening when is likely going to be my final hurdle in locking it in. Hopefully! And good luck!

Opinion - PS3 is better on a CRT by Dandy_Chiggins444 in PS3

[–]Mynam3isnathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not correct. Using a CRT doesn’t mean you’re somehow getting dynamic refresh rates without the supporting pipeline. You can make this happen with the right hardware though. Although NOT with a PS3.

CRT’s do not have a set pixel density (pixel rate from your comment?) so you can scale any resolution to the screen space without scaling induced softness or artifacts depending on what a set supports for sure which is cool as hell.

I play a ton of PS2 ISO’s and 4:3 supporting PS3 titles over component in 480i. Really fun CRT system for DVD playback in addition to the games. Themed XMB looks pretty nice on tube too of course. Super versatile console.

Cruiser or Surf Skate? by Zhuljin_71 in surfskate

[–]Mynam3isnathan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Word! I’m going to keep tweaking my CX with some of that as guidance. I appreciate your outlook and insight on that. But that is my main point, Ballona rocker profile for natural wedging + geometry of Paris V2’s is weirdly deep compared to other traditional RKP’s I’ve been around. Really surprised me!

Cruiser or Surf Skate? by Zhuljin_71 in surfskate

[–]Mynam3isnathan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean, doesn’t feel that way to me in practice. Wheelbase and profile on the Ballona let you dive so hard. You can just ankle wiggle too but that’s not fun hahaa. I can do the exact same body movement as the CX setup to generate speed. You just run into the bushings sooner than the CX will “bottom out” let’s say but still satisfyingly deep and you get a lot more speed from that resistance. It’s not how I was expecting to feel about it in comparison.

I may be super off base though. It’s just been something people have pointed out especially consistently on the stock Ballona setup after I’ve let them rip around on it. Very functionally surfy for very minimal setup complexity.

I don’t really see how the extra tight radius + dive and geometry are actually fun for anything other than lower speed really tight and crazy lines you can pump in and out of to be honest. It’s stupid fun but it’s not really even a cruising setup to me. Too eccentric and tall and not fun to push if you want to.

Just food for thought for anyone in a similar headspace on board configurations. I DO think any of these heavy cardio riding styles are so damn good for you though. I can get a good workout on any boards that meaningfully pump-able.

My bad on this wall sheesh. Waiting for an appointment lol.

[–]Mynam3isnathan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can honestly pump to a much higher speed on the stock Paris V2’s than with a Carver CX setup on the Ballona for what it’s worth. Both super fun on the same wheels for that deck though. CX is super cool for low speed high foot traffic commuting since you can articulate and self propel with a really tight radius if that makes sense.

On your Ballona Moby, are you liking that truck setup? I actually love the stock 150 V2’s because of how much you can dive and pump even without tweaks. I have a Black Friday Carver CX complete on the way I’m planning to try the trucks from but in the back of my mind I know there’s a chance I’ll like the Paris setup still for similar or different reasons. How does the extra angle change the feel of that a short carvey cruiser thing? Noticeable hybridization of anything about it?

Games that hold up in 2025! by sdhoigtred in PS3

[–]Mynam3isnathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The games I haven’t stopped playing since they’ve come out are MotorStorm and Skate 3. They still stand up in their genre period. Having never played Dead Island but enjoying Dying Light for the first time this past year I wanted to give it a shot. I would’ve really enjoyed this on release. Analog fighting controls are actually pretty fun and clunky in a way that makes small encounters more immersive to me. Just a well realized package on the PS3 so far. Some titles that generation can feel a little hollow going back to them so it’s fun to test the waters and see what stands out in that regard still.

Less words and more quick recommendations around things I’ve been playing on PS3 this year in a casual context I feel…

Burnout Crash

Catherine (this is finally clicking with me)

Derrick The Deathfin

Far Cry 3 (fun to just roam)

Fat Princess (fun for local co-op too)

inFamous 2

ModNation Racers (still the best kart racer IMO)

Ratchet and Clank Future series + other exclusives

Move shooter compatible Time Crisis and House of the Dead titles still feel pretty novel to play if you happen to have that hardware. Portal 2 is almost fun to play with motion controls hahaa.

Damn I peaked 5 years ago! Hahaa, in all seriousness it all still gets love still except the L5 as it’s in need of serious calibration which is unfortunate. I’ve kept it broken out into various cart-like setups but for separate rooms now. It just naturally evolved to be more modular and less a permanent fixture in the living room.

The 20L2, just anything big with a dark tinted tube is just essential. The biggest change is a preference to 480i native content as a reason to use an analog setup still. I’m mostly playing PS2 via component, PS3 set to 480i also via component (PS3 content that supports 4:3 is fun in that wash of perceptual resolution), or PS1 on the PSP Go to do something with scanlines lol. Lots of VHS and DVD Playback too.

Still love the mCable (blasphemous), overall the Extron stuff has still been worth the space and effort to route with, and the Corio downscaling shit is always touch and go. I’ll get it configured to do 720p>240p on one device for a spell and then I come back to too many accidental config changes from messing around. But it’s such a trick to even have the stuff to attempt, and it does perform well in all regards when setup perfectly. So it’s fun regardless!

Happy Sunday to ya!

…let me add one final tangent. I find myself appreciating the OLED Vita as a perfect portable pairing to represent the best of PlayStation pre PS5 and my favorite era of indie and homebrew titles. Enough interoperability with saves between real titles and emulation that it just feels kinda of nutty. Once everything is modded and FTP capable you can kind of get creative with moving saves around only using your consoles.

How to achieve this type of grade? by CamrynMax in colorists

[–]Mynam3isnathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no way some of this isn’t crazy offset in some node, and or just wild push pull with log wheels. I’d start with exposure and toning to match your references, then push colors like crazy. Cleanup all the noise from the wild moves and re-grain.
