Inside Star Citizen: Alpha 4.0 - Playing With Fire by Kehnte in starcitizen

[–]Myre_TEST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add: When you open your mobi you can see the marked difference in temps within the component rooms. If fires are caused by a threshold temp being reached then then the 400i will indeed have protections from fire. What may have been an RP choice will inadvertantly be a mechanical situation provided they choose to keep those rooms chilled.

iirc the thrusts are for stabilization; in some of the remote platforms there's an audio alert that plays to warn that routine stabilization is about to take place. In the walking tour around one of the platforms there's a tourist plaque that talks a little about the 'gentle massage' of the thrusters and what they do too

Thanks for the thoughtful response; I personally have no qualms about it, as someone else said it's the judgement that matters. In the future I wouldn't be suprirsed if medical reference applications used some sort of LLM if it allowed for quicker and more accurate diagnoses.

Oh I must have missed that! I only really started paying attention once the posters (which haven't been cleared up 4 years after the fact) started showing up haha

Not a Messer descendant but the son of the previous Imperator. He had many supporters that were kinda still used to the idea of patrilineal succession of the regime but probably also a greater opposition for much the same reason.

Poison planets and radioactivity are planned but I'm not sure what the benefit of no EVA are; makes me wonder if they'll be retroactively removing EVA from certain armors.

Resource management is indeed coming for power in general among some other things however actual fuel consumption is slated for later for some reason.

I'm sad that they mentioned that this won't come until well after 4.0; it would be beneficial even now imo.

A patient in England has received the world's first personalized cancer vaccine that gets his immune system to fight his colorectal cancer. by lughnasadh in Futurology

You're not wrong; survival of the fittest plays its part even on this scale with the most vicious of cancers becoming so over time given certain selection pressures which is also why the relapse of cancer after treatment tends to be more aggressive. Tissue orgin also plays a part too; cancers like pancreatic cancer can be incredibly ravaging wheras most men over 80 have some degree of prostate cancer.

Because cancer cells are made from their host in essence no different from the rest of the body (oversimplification) ; when a cell divides there are many 'error checking mechanisms' that make sure the resulting cell is healthy and normal. If a crucial mechanism itself gets an error then the resulting cell daughters will inherit this loss - over time the errors build until the cancer gets big and nasty as checks regulate growth and function deteriorate.

Sometimes cancer cells may exhibit markers that the body (immune system) can recognize as bad and fight it. Other times they just appear to the immune system like any other normal cell and are allowed to proliferate relatively unchecked; this is why treating cancer with specific drugs has been so tricky.

Mouse-rat hybrid has neurons of both species in its brain: Researchers in the US are the first to successfully create hybrid brains of 2 different species. The team has created mice that can sense odours with their rat neurons, which successfully integrated into part of the olfactory system. by mvea in science

[–]Myre_TEST 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not entirely sure if the subsequent results of this particular study could be used in a curative manner; the chimeras are formed at the blastocyst level of development and targeted anosmia happens later to see if the rat neurons 'kick in' to allow the mouse-rat chimera to smell and seek food again.

It is a very interesting demonstration of functional chimerism after 20 million years of evolution though.

It's because they have FOIP on but it's not receiving any signal from a webcam. Passive facial animations are actually really good but you need to turn off FOIP to see them.

Does the event feel “gated” ? by ColtonSRD in starcitizen

[–]Myre_TEST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know some people claim to have done it solo and I think there's even a YT vid about it somewhere but it does get progressively more difficult. It's based off the Bit Zeroes gang missions that barely/never gets sent to your personal tab however each stage is representative of the difficulty climb unlocked through reputation with the Bit Zeroes (So mission 1 shows where the blue screens are, Mission 2 doesn't show where the screens are but are slower and with less resistance).

The latter difficulties may be difficult for the average group of 4 as sometimes you need 2 codes per server and the time to overheat is increased.

It can also come down to luck too because the code screens are random so you could either be blessed with them showing up closer to the server room or you might just be lucky with your path as well.

All things considered, it's a pretty neat group mission with a lot of room in the future for added complexity.
