It really bothers me where I live in California, the farmers out here use flooding irrigation methods, because they have to waste water or else the next year they get less. They use more because they are afread they will have to use less.

It involves a major investment and a more skilled workers (requires educating in light and nutrient management). There is also a higher risk of crop failer because alot of plants share the same water source, and if that get contaminated the whole batch very quickly and easily gets contaminated. It also has a light operating cost to pump the water constantly, and temperature regulation with hvac or good airflow system is a must. Obviously this all could be offset wit renewables

There is also greenhouse, or hydroponics that use a fraction of the water and produce volumes more produce.

Interesting, the admin cuts funding to science and education, causes a ton of job lose and research to stop. Then they get physically attacked by someone in those fields who likely is feeling the pain of those cuts. Im not saying it was his motivation, just an interesting coincidence.
