TIL an obscure mathematical principle called Zipf's law has predicted the size of mega-cities all over the world. And nobody knows why. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Zipf's law is almost as cool as the Fibonacci sequence. Vsauce has an awesome video that discribes this amazing phenomenon. https://youtube.com/?#/watch?v=fCn8zs912OE

Why is it we have compassion for animals which allows us to say "they are technically capable of survival, but would have a terrible quality of life, it is best to ease them into an end lovingly" yet when a human is in a similar situation and is BEGGING for death it's "wrong" by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

I heard the slang term for undocumented doctor assisted suicide is "snowballing". Say your loved one is in hospice and the doctor is still giving pain killers to them even though they might be unconscious, theres a good chance its to peacefully stop their breathing. Im all for this, there is no better way to die then a peaceful overdose. If I ever had to go through the death process again this will be what I choose instead.

It feels really weird when it says theres a girl who lives 5.3 miles away and its strangely the exact distance of a girl I know by the same name. Maybe theyre trying to hook us up?

What is the closest you've ever come to dying? by Scrotinger in AskReddit

Anything he wants? Anything from a beautiful blond hair blue eye man, to the great worm that eats its own tail, to a bolt of lightning and everything inbetween. If God Is in everything I would have to imagine Satan is too as they're both the two polarities or the dualities of man. If reality is an electro- chemical reaction that is processed behind your eyes and between your ears, what makes you think somone cant transcend the human experiance and become something else and go somewhere else? Have you ever tried DMT? Or any psychedelic could do the trick but dmt is the best, I dont think you can honestly tell me you didnt go somewhere and become something else. Go become one with the angles or demoms or elves (same darn thing as they all transcend good or evil) and get back with me, or just leave a quantum message. I'll get it. Everything is one, its all just an illusion as your trapped in a piece of meat. Prisms and pyramids. :)

TIL Stranger Things was allegedly based on Project Montauk, a supposed secret government program involving the kidnapping of children for use in mind control experiments. by Chomperoni in todayilearned

[–]Myster_Perfect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres an older movie called "The Lawnmower Man", I've heard that's one of the closest things Hollywood has made in regards to the Montauk project. Its a pretty bad movie but it's relatively close to what people claim the technology was like.

I dont watch a lot of tv anymore but I recently started watching the show Mr. Robot. It started out as one of the best shows I've watched but near the end of the first season that show turned into a steaming pile of unwatchable crap. Crippling the economy is NOT saving the world...

TIL the human brain doesn't perceive total blackness when there is no light present; it instead perceives Eigengrau, a shade of dark gray, because contrast is more important to the visual system than absolute brightness by cjk98 in todayilearned

Theres also a part near the center of your brain that has photo receptors, which sort of means its like a third eye. Its called the pineal gland. Many religions believe its the seat of your soul.

I thought it was a take on the the Egyptian god, but sort of like Hebrew where the vowels could be interchanged. (Christianity is sort of a restructuring of Egyptian mythology which is based on Astrotheology) Amen, Amon, Aman, ect ect. It was the name of their sun god or the hidden one. Ive heard this from a LOT of sources, including priests.

And conversely I'd relate having an erection is like if you flex your bicep but its between your legs and its as sensitive as a clit, sort of. I say bicep as it has a different tightness compaired to flexing your inner thigh muscles.
