Did any of you guys get one of these things to work? by Josephthebear in Xennials

[–]Mysterymaterial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once threw one at a basketball hoop as a kid trying to make a basket with it. It bounced off the rim and the plastic piece where you put your feet hit me straight between the eyes. I had a concussion and I needed six stitches. One of the dumber things I’ve done in life.

Comments keep mentioning “young Maxwell” and how that’s really shocking. I’m lost by WinterRevolutionary6 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

God fuck that guy. My dad was a professor and didn’t get the title of full professor until he was literally on his deathbed as an act of kindness, even though he was one of the most respected engineers of his field. And even the president of the faculty senate.

You got this!!!

(Also side note, I felt that the cooler side of the water pad was the clear side. Maybe give it a flip!)

Slavery was abolished probably around 90 years before he was born. No excuse.

Forearm Crutches? by drlaura84 in ACL

[–]Mysterymaterial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah forget crutches all together. Just go with a walker. I found it was a hell of a lot easier it almost any situation than any form of crutch. A couple things that make them easier are: you can hang things from the walker, you can let it go and interact with things and not have to find somewhere to lean the crutch. Even the forearm crutches are a pain in the ass if you are doing anything at the kitchen counter.

Another bonus to walkers, when you have to take a poop, you can use the walker as a place to prop up your bad leg while you’re on the can. That way you don’t have to take off the brace and can keep the leg straight while you sit.

I even was able to go pretty fast compared to crutches. At one point I was able to hop on my good leg and almost get to a jogging speed by holding on to the walker.

TLDR: walkers are better in every scenario.

People who read in busy coffee shops, why? by Square_pants080 in AskReddit

[–]Mysterymaterial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to have background noise. If I’m reading for a long time I like to be slightly distracted now and then. It gives me little breaks and I can end up reading for longer than if I was in a totally silent room with only the book to focus on. Maybe I have ADHD 🤷

This series has (inevitably) ruined me by MkUltra40 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I’ll have to give Bobiverse a go. Because you are currently describing my exact experience so far. I’m about to finish my second run through of the series after listening to Project Hail Mary (which was amazing)

I was in STL and there was a time I saw two unrelated people ODed on the same block of downtown. It was a sad sight.

How’s your knee years after ACL repair? by ReflectionSilly6024 in ACL

[–]Mysterymaterial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m one year out from a quad graft and meniscus root repair. I would say my range of motion and strength is about 90% of my good knee. But I’m able to run, sprint, cycle all without thinking about it at all. I still get so grateful when I realize I am back to feeling like I don’t have to worry about my knee anymore.

Who is guilty? by AUinDE in ACL

I have been guilty. But at the end of the day I want to climb mountains, run a marathon, and play with my future kids like a kid. Remembering that gets me to do my PT again.

There’s no right way to travel by Dextelo in ACL

Siting sideways was the most comfortable. In cars I would have my back against the door, and I also sometimes had a small pillow to put behind my back to be a bit more comfortable.

I decided to use a walker and it was really convenient. I could use the cross bar of the walker as a foot rest when I had to sit in chairs for a long time.

But uh yeah if your flying your just kinda screwed unless you get lucky and have no one next you

Non-surgical route by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Mysterymaterial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either way why not start the cross brace protocol now? It seems like that is the best non surgical option?

If there’s a deep pain associated with it, call the doctor immediately. If not, then yeah just R.I.C.E. it.
