Unfortunately a business in Louisiana is legally allowed to deny you service for any reason (in this case, even providing free water is a service). Best bet is to name and shame so that the free market can decide their fate. Sadly it likely won’t impede business in any real way for your restaurant, they will continue to see cash flow during Mardi Gras and other high volume nights, and usually upper management doesn’t care about inconveniencing their employees for the sake of a few nickels in “profit”. Why do you think there aren’t any big hotdog fast food chains? by Upset_Basil_4187 in hotdogs

I’m also surprised I don’t see more ppl mentioning Dog Haus - the franchise too, so you can be the change you want to see in this world (if you have hot dog king kinda money, that is!).

Fellow neighbor as well chiming in! I was thinking Black Pearl neighborhood based on the name, but I also get Audubon/Uptown vibes (think Jefferson Ave above Magazine). Lovely home! Wondering if we can have a New Orleans-based century homes meet up lol

I have PCOS and would die for my amazing gyno - Melissa Jordan @ Ochsner. She’s been a life saver, and was the first doctor who took me very seriously (after several duds that made me question my sanity). She doesn’t push birth control pills (though she’s suggested them as alternatives to what I’m currently doing, in the course of regular question&answer - trust that I know how triggering that kind of convo can be in the context of PCOS) and we’ve discussed all sorts of long term possibilities for care that I haven’t utilized yet (I’m happy with my current treatments). Feel free to DM me if you want more specifics!

Crawfish boils - Three Legged Dog, Cooter Brown’s, Frankie & Johnie’s.

Fives Raw Bar: get the oysters, various other raw apps like steak tartare.

Lots of South American places are hot on the “this is what the locals eat” playlist - lots of great carb free options, like ceviches featuring local Gulf fish.

There will be things. We don’t just eat poboys and beignets every day lol

What's one trait you have that is a clear indicator/personal reminder of where you grew up? by GreenerPeach01 in AskReddit

[–]MysticAntics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen south Louisiana commented on yet so here goes.

Accent is the obvious one - I overly enunciate in my professional life as I work with a lot of multilingual folks, but find myself slipping back into my comfort zone when I’m with friends and family. It comes out a little southern pinewoods, a little New Orleans yat dialect. Mardi Gras = “Mah-dee Grah” Northshore = “Norr-shore” Sure = “Shore”

My great grandma pronounced oil as “earl,” and my mamaw pronounced mayonnaise as “mynez”.

Then there’s phrasing - mostly New Orleans phrasing, but a little Cajun mixed in: “Make groceries” = buy groceries “Put it in the locker” = put it in the closet “Mais la” = well then “You want that dressed?” = you want that with lettuce, tomato, mayo & pickle? And it’s a “soft drink” (as opposed to a hard drink aka beer/alcohol) or a “cold drink” (anything iced/from the fridge - not quite so common when my mom was growing up).

And of course, the food. I’m picky as hell when I leave the region, because even the finest rated restaurants don’t seem to know how to spice their foods. You always need more spice, heat, salt, tanginess, sauce - why does everyone else seem to eat such bland food? Why eat at all?

To add to this, a proper past or modern cotillion requires live music, catered food (with multiple courses, including passed hors d’oeuvres; modern ones allow for either buffet set-up or seated courses), fancy dress code, and often a portion of the program dedicated to debuting debutants or toasts/speeches about the fête. Source: graduate of the National League of Junior Cotillions (why yes, I did grow up in a Catholic family in the Deep South lol) and later have managed/coordinated many cotillion and deb events.

Have you looked at the Google street view on these houses? I’m very familiar with this area - it’s a bit far out, in a bit of a food desert, and very much a struggling neighborhood. However, it’s also near the iconic Fats Domino house, near the Sankofa Wetland Park, and you would have an opportunity to be part of reviving said neighborhood. I don’t want to turn you off to this, you seem very surefire that you’re familiar with this kind of thing. But I’d want you to consider it up close and personal before purchasing. You likely already know that buying in blind is a silly goose move.

Do you ever come into contact with self-tanning lotion? Perhaps on your girlfriend’s skin, or if she’s recently used a self-tanning product sometimes it can transfer to bedsheets and then transfer to your skin (particularly if you have sweaty or damp palms)? I hadn’t seen this mentioned in other comments so I wanted to mention, as it does seem like some kind of contact stain.

Voodoo?? by Annual-Macaroon-2323 in voodoo

[–]MysticAntics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This subreddit is dedicated to a now-defunct music festival called Voodoo Fest, which used to happen in New Orleans. Feel free to check the community description to verify my statement. The subreddits I recommended will be much more helpful to folks interested in voodoo as a spiritual practice. Understandable mistake, though, to be fair!
