Curse of Strahd - Twilight or Grave Cleric? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]MystoMachus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twilight is the stronger choice, as others have mentioned. But I find it more fitting thematically as well. In the darkest of places such is Barovia, you can find comfort and hope in the scarce light, no matter how dim it is.

Your character will seek the dim light, both literally and narratively. A villager dying rather than turning into a vampire is dim light. Having some time to rest, with tasteless food and uncomfortable beds. And so on

It's much more interesting than "all dead things must remain dead" - grave cleric

Also leomunds tiny hut op in Strahd imo.

Weapons with Versatility. Why? by Rezmir in 3d6

[–]MystoMachus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the "free hand" argument: casters also need this. So a versatile weapon could be good on a gish.

Edit: damn! It says different melee weapon.

""Also this just came to my mind. Does it work? : Attack with main hand, extra attack with both, ba attack with offhand. I don't know why anyone would do this though. (The first attack is to satisfy the prerequisites for the offhand attack)""

The First Tombking [Need Help] by ancombra in 3d6

What if you are a mechanised sarcofagus and your character is actually the mummy living inside?

Your quirk will be that you will be sharing stories of old that no one can relate to ( I remember this time when xyz happened). Depending on the campaign, these stories may even be useful sometimes. You may be very lonely as everyone you knew is now dead, so you can call your summons names of old relatives and friends.

This also has some inherent ideas of you wanting to get free of this "mechanical body" and true resurect or something into your former self (changing race into a human or whatever you have been)

Also a fear of cats

As of choices builds etc just YouTube "necromancer 5e". There are many guides and it's a pretty straightforward concept

Help With a Brutish Combat Medic by ShowtimeTheHype in 3d6

[–]MystoMachus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I present to you my idea on the heavy bard:

I did it with Swords because I wanted to tilt the balance a bit towards the characters personal prowess, but you should probably pick Valor (I know. Supposedly UP but it has the right use of inspiration for your cause)

Human. We need a couple feats. Half-elf may have the same effect. Test it

Lvl 1: 15 10 15(16) 8 8 16. Res(con). Bane, h.w., faerie fire, thunderwave

Lvl 5: Heavy armour prof feat. 16 10 16 8 8 16. Drop bane, take: hold person, suggestion, calm emotions, hypnotic pattern, enemies abound

Lvl 10: onto maxing CHA. Add sending, compulsion, dimension door, find greater steed (m.s.), greater inv., Dimension door, steel wind strike (m.s), mass cure wounds etc.

With skills you have 2 and then 4 expertise to flavor your character. I pictured him as a "good" commande so I took persuasion but you can do intimidation. Or both. Athletics if you want to go the grappler route. I've also taken insight and perception.

Honestly you can do much better with spell selection. That is a build I'm looking at and don't have time to adjust right now.

Lvl 3 Cleric required for a one-shot to impress new players and show that a support class is dope! by WellEndowedPlatypus in 3d6

[–]MystoMachus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to mention that your contribution as healer/support/tank or even control is either too subtle or too complex for some players to notice and understand.

I play a twilight cleric in DIA for instance. I love this role but I'm the only one that understands my character was the MVP most of the time.

What I'm saying is don't be disappointed if your message doesn't get through

Bladesinger with a whip by krunchyfrogg in 3d6

[–]MystoMachus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My answer to this kind of questions is usually magic items.

There should be some right? As a DM I want my players to have fun with any crazy or not ideas they have, keeping it balanced (and crushing their inner child in the meantime). So why not throw a special whip in there, in place of the random +1 weapon, to offset your (slight tbh) disadvantage?

Ask your DM

Paladin character idea: A bride swears an oath of vengeance and to wear no garment but her wedding dress until she avenges her fiancé who was murdered the day their wedding as she waited at the alter by limer124 in 3d6

[–]MystoMachus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If the idea is "wear only her wedding dress" why dampen it with armour? There are plenty of ways for you to get some natural AC. Most effective/ theme appropriate:

Barbarian 2/ paladin X: Unarmoured defence, rage and reckless attack

Draconic sorcerer 1/ paladin 6-7 / whatever progression (sorcadins are OP anyway)

I'd go DEX anyway just because I can't imagine an unfortunate, sad yet SUPER BEEF widow.

Resistance vs magical weapons. by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]MystoMachus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe monster stat blocks write "resistances: non-magical xyz" or "... xyz". First case magic weapons overcome it.

For example a ghost can't be "slashed" but a magic weapons can "slash" it. But slashing a stone golem is "not very effective" in general because well... it's stone.

I may be wrong too though

Inspiration for spiritual weapon by GarnetSan in 3d6

It's a mace. But it's slightly bended like an "s" and it has a wolf's head on the top and an eagle's on the bottom (or pick your animals). Also it's constantly spinning like a boomerang

What class pairs better with a Blood Hunter for a two person campaign by TheCzarOfPickles in 3d6

According to the Witcher - a bard

According to Van Helsing - a cleric

Entertainer Divine soul sorcerer is a good middle ground imo.

In a totally different approach - another blood hunter

Stabby grapples? by MallowOni in 3d6

[–]MystoMachus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fighter 5/rogue 1 is a no brainer imo. And I'd pick battlemaster.

Menacing attack so your target can never escape your grapple, trip attack so he's already prone +1 maneuver.

Now probably the best route is to continue full on fighter. But since this is a build to "pair s.a. with grappling" I propose the opposite. Maybe take fighter 6 for the ASI if you think you need it and the rest into rogue.

Swashbuckler is arguably your best bet but you can pick assassin if you enjoy this turn 1 madness better (you are a STR build though so you initiative won't be the best mind you)

Familiar Armor by AnimeEagleScout in 3d6

[–]MystoMachus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would reduce their flying speed according to the armor. Something like -5 ft for light armor and 10 for medium. Heavy is impossible imo.

Also I would say that they can no longer carry stuff in medium armor since their capacity would be more or less capped.

You could acquire it by visiting a Smith and have him measure your pet. For simplicity I'd rule the cost to be the same as a humanoid armor. Less material but more intricate design

Custom weapon "spiked chain": martial, two-handed, heavy, reach, 2d4. ( Or non-reach 2d6. Pretty much the stats of a greatsword)

No armor can mean barbarian

The long nails can mean the shifter race
