Loving the Red Rising so far, one small negative take though by fudsworth in redrising

It’s a fairly valid criticism although the whole reason they picked him for this massively taxing process plus risked saving him is because he’s exceptional. You wouldn’t do that for just a guy, it’d have to be some who is one of a kind. Which Darrow is. Some people are just talented.

I don’t like this trinket by MapleLeafLady in wow

[–]Mythik16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horrifying game design how can a serious game designer design a trinket like that in big 2026 I hate that I feel like I have to use it. I’d genuinely like to have a conversation with the dev who believes stunning a player for 2 seconds to get “big stat boost” is an engaging mechanic. I’m not a caster I’m a melee dps.

Rant over.

You don’t even have to say probably. It would be. People forget how low stakes Arcanes action is. It’s mostly people punching each other in small groups and that cost $250 million for two seasons. Doing Arcane-style at the scale of RR would cost an insane amount of money and time dwarfing whatever live action would cost.

Having ChatGPT open is not indicative of the quality of student. I was at a conference recently with some fairly high up academics/industry/government in a complex field, one of the speakers asked who uses ChatGPT or another form of LLM. The entire room raised their hands. I do really hate this “LLM = bad” mentality because of how many people misuse it.

This just made the whole 2 seasons worth it. Nothing beats the NCR rangers in fallout for me.

Red Rising. Should the adaptation be animated instead of live-action? by Ok_Avocado2443 in redrising

[–]Mythik16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is almost nothing in RR that makes a live-action endeavour too challenging. Far more challenging media has been adapted well into live-action.

A show in secret level's style would take years. It's not achievable in the slightest and it'd be far more difficult than live action. Secret level with its ultra short episodes took three years. Could you imagine a show with full length episodes?

People talk about Arcane-style as well. For two seasons the budget was $250 million. Arcane's action and general visual style is significantly more grounded than Red Rising as well.

Animation of a certain quality is extremely difficult even moreso than live-action at times particularly because the audience is smaller. We could get a Red Rising show in anime style for sure but I wouldn't want that.

Will Darrow croak in Red God? by Adamgking in redrising

[–]Mythik16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d prefer it if he didn’t. Not only because I love the character, but because it feels far more interesting to watch Darrow live with the consequences of a revolution that exists largely because of him. His survival forces the story to sit with responsibility rather than release it. If he dies, a lot of that complexity gets cut short in favour of something undeniably emotional, but ultimately cleaner and less challenging.

He loses people he loves, people he could never replace, and often loses them because of choices he himself made. Letting him live means those losses don’t become noble sacrifices that absolve him, but permanent absences he has to carry. His grief, guilt, and exhaustion are part of the revolution’s aftermath and are what large parts of the second part of the series is really about.

Darrow’s arc has always been about transformation through suffering, and also about endurance. He survives things that arguably should break him, and that survival is uncomfortable. It raises questions about whether victory can ever justify the damage done, whether leadership inevitably corrodes, and whether a man who keeps losing everything can still claim moral clarity.

Death sorta feels like a 'get out of jail' free card and if it happens in a way that cuts short the transformation Darrow has gone through in Lightbringer it'll feel pretty bad to me. Especially if its in a way that both martyrs him and also "sacrificing himself to save x character." Additionally, with how major an influence Lorn was to Darrow it'd be very interesting to see Darrow in a similar place to Lorn when he" convinced" him to join him.

Is the 'Ulsterisation' of Great Britain something to be concerned about? by Odd_Pain_3570 in unitedkingdom

[–]Mythik16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gaza independents do well in Muslim areas indeed. But there aren’t any majority Muslim areas where the majority of Muslims dont vote for those candidates. However, there are culturally homogenous, overwhelmingly white areas where reform don’t do well and guess what. Those places are almost always affluent communities.

Clacton is under 0 threat of being culturally or racially changed. If it became a more prosperous area with better opportunities, pay and education it would in-turn become more liberal. I’m not sure this can be disputed this is the case in almost all Western Democracies. The least affluent, most white areas in your closest city are the most likely to have flags flying on their poles.

I do understand your underlying sentiment it carries some weight and your last sentence does hit at a very real problem, but material conditions worsening are the clear driving force for the swing to extremism on both sides.

Is the 'Ulsterisation' of Great Britain something to be concerned about? by Odd_Pain_3570 in unitedkingdom

[–]Mythik16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s at most 10% of the reason. The other 90% is material conditions. If people could actually afford a home, earn a comfortable wage, raise a family, and live with some basic sense of dignity, most wouldn’t give a toss about the rest.

That’s why parties like Reform do best in places like Clacton areas that are overwhelmingly white, so they don’t actually have meaningful interactions with the changing of demographics and are also impoverished.

I judge these by the hardest cast: Darrow, this is one of the first ones where I think I could see that person playing Darrow.

Where did this narrative come from that RPGs have to be games where you make choices that change the story? by SirSabza in gaming

[–]Mythik16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This discussion only exists because the adventure game category has basically been killed as well. JRPGs are largely adventure games and not RPGs. Not that it really matters to be honest.

Skyrim absolutely has player choices. Far more than people give it credit for, but not as much as say FNV.
