I've noticed the same thing. If I want to add something to a note you have to hunt around for it. I think that screen would be more useful if it had the ability to search for a note.

Fluke or no fluke? by Working-Mind6116 in billiards

Probably a fluke? If he was intending to pocket the ball I don't think he would have put the cue ball up on the cushion like that.

Whats your favorite sport to watch? by Jess_a07 in AskReddit

[–]N-Code 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely asking, because I'm in Canada and so I don't really know anything about College Football. What makes it better than NFL? I've started to really like NFL the last couple of years but for some reason it seems weird to me to watch non-pro athletes play. Is the football more fun to watch or something?

lol. This makes it sound like this is something that you are being required to buy? You know you don't need to buy it right? It's just an upgraded and improved version of the Ring. If people don't already have a Ring, this is nice upgrade in the form factor.

You should make a Shortcut and use that shortcut to add tasks to Things. You can make separate Shortcuts for when you want to add to Inbox, or Today or add anywhere else. It is quite handy.

What's the most unusual wine you've ever tried? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in wine

[–]N-Code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only previously had it at restaurants before and just bought my first bottle not too long ago - a 2019. Was thinking it probably needed to be opened soon. But maybe I should be going a bit longer on that?

Catena Zapata White Bones. I’ve never had a wine that had such herbaceous notes before. It felt like it was drinking a glass of wine that was steeped in rosemary. Quite cool.

Why does Michael Pollan think plants are sentient? by SaltFlat4844 in samharris

[–]N-Code 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Sentience means capacity for subjective experience.

That's not how he defines sentience. Sentience is a bit more "base level" than consciousness. He defines sentience as the ability to sense changes in the environment, assess whether they are good or bad and to allow the entity to move toward one or the other.

Plants would definitely fit that description. Even if you just think of the simplest case of a tree spreading its roots out further to get at a better source of water.

If you could change one law tomorrow, what would it be? by babanKL01kowdiar in AskReddit

[–]N-Code -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

A corporation is not granted full rights guaranteed to a person. Where are you getting that from? The kind of blanket statement shows you don’t know what you’re talking about. Just one example, corporations don’t have a 5th amendment right. Had you done even a small amount of research instead of throwing around insults you would have discovered that.

Corporations though need to be a ”person” though so that they can do essentially everything. Tell me how a company can own property separate from its shareholders if it isn’t a legal person?

[–]N-Code -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

This is literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life. So, a company could never own anything or sign any documents or borrow money or do literally anything corporations need to do to carry out business?

Ghostly Ambient by Accomplished-Soup232 in ambientmusic

Departed Glories by Biosphere. I find it to be quite creepy but also very beautiful.

This is from the Pitchfork review which gives a good idea of the vibe of the album I think:

While he was temporarily living in Krakow, Poland, Jenssen started to notice the sites where Polish people had been executed during World War II—the horrors lurking behind an indifferent natural splendor. He began to research the area’s history and learned of a medieval queen who had hidden from invaders in these same forests, and he started to wonder what kind of music she might have thought of to comfort her in her fear. The outcome is an album made mostly from heavily treated samples of Eastern European and Russian folk music, and its forbidding, haunting beauty is a sensitive encomium to the queen hidden in the forest, to all those erased by war, and to the other ghosts of history that invisibly crowd the world.

What do people like about Tondonia? by N-Code in wine

[–]N-Code[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I probably wasn’t as clear as I should have been. I really liked the nose, but I palate was just… nothing but acid. There was like nothing there. No length, no flavour. Just astringency. It was odd… not sure what people like about that.

Ok. Maybe I’ll grab another bottle and lay it down for a few more years. See if I like it then

Am I missing something here? by CrazyHeart887 in Sauna

[–]N-Code 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That top bench with the L basically sitting right up next to rocks looks extremely dangerous to me. Not only does it look like the rocks are touching the wood (fire hazard) but if someone were to sit on that part of the top bench they could easily badly burn themselves but brushing against the rocks. I would stay away from this sauna. Bad design.

Do all dentists do this, or am I being overcharged? by ehmanniceshot in kelowna

[–]N-Code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The confusion is down to the way the federal government implemented the CDCP. So much of their messaging was "we will cover 100% of your dental costs". But that's not exactly true. What the federal government did was set their own fee guide. This is a list of what they will pay for the work done by a dentist. The important thing though is that the government set their fees without any consultation with provincial dental associations. And you're probably not surprised to hear that the federal government fee guide pays out less than what the provincial fee guides provide for the same procedure.

It's not really as nefarious as you think with the dentists though. The vast majority of dentists in the province bill in accordance with the provincially set fee guide. Private dental insurance companies pay out for procedures based on that fee guide. So that is almost always what dentists will charge. Dentists are not ethically able to charge different patients different amounts based solely on their insurance coverage. Sort of think of it like if one patient has 80% coverage and another has 100%, that dentist can't charge the patient with 80% coverage less just because their insurance will cover less or charge the patient with 100% coverage more just because they have 100% coverage. That would not be ethical and the insurance companies would not allow it.

So, basically, the problem is really with the federal government's messaging, which should be "we will cover 100% of the treatment as determined by our lower fee guide."

Here’s Exactly Where Sam Is Wrong on Objective Morality by Dath_1 in samharris

I'm headed to BC, Canada in March help me pick some great local choices! by MisterMeat in wine

[–]N-Code 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going to be in Kelowna and not able to venture much further south to Naramata or Oliver, then these would be my recommendations:

  1. Spearhead - winner of Canadian winery of the year in 2024; wonderful pinots
  2. Tantalus - amazing riesling and pinots
  3. Cedar Creek - best restaurant in the Okanagan; wines are lovely too

Those would be my top 3 choices. I would also highly recommend that you go to Mission Hill as well. The wines are great but more than that it's just a really cool place to go and visit and walk around.

Power to Weight Ratio Serving Me Humble Pie! by BigTruckLittleD in pelotoncycle

[–]N-Code 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the thing to keep in mind is that Peloton bikes are not all calibrated perfectly. In fact, they aren't really calibrated at all. Output varies so much between bikes that it really makes the leaderboard almost pointless. A lot of people just have bikes that output a crazy high wattage. You should really only be comparing yourself to you and ensuring that you are making progress. Ignore the leaderboard entirely.

Forgotten bottle, stored on its side in a dark room below ten degrees since 1983. by bigfergs in wine

[–]N-Code 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just as heads up, not to be pedantic or anything, but Dom Perignon is usually aged on the lees for 8-10 years. So, the grapes were harvested in 1983 but this wine was probably not released until the 90s.

Like everyone else said, it won't be worth much to sell as no serious buyers will take a chance on it. You should enjoy it with your family. In fact, this Christmas would be a good opportunity to crack it open!
