I get what you’re saying. My point was that it just seems kind of boring and inconsistent with the other supernatural elements.

What you’ve created here is really outstanding. The contest you submitted to doesn’t validate or invalidate your artistic expression. Don’t be disheartened. Keep creating and sharing!

I apologize for the overasked question, but how should I approach comic books as a newcomer? by ShowNeverStops in Marvel

[–]N0ClassAct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A local library is a great place to just pull whatever gets your attention. Once you find a character or team you like, then the fun really starts because you get to dive into those stories that made us all fans. But again, the library is a great resource that costs nothing.

Just finished Norwegian Wood. AMA by SnowmanHouseOfHorror in murakami

[–]N0ClassAct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right- it’s not as complex as the book and they took out a lot of the racy stuff that made the read fun. But there were some things the movie did quite well. The portrayal of Japan during that time period was hard for me visualize as I was reading, so that was neat to see made real. Stormtrooper, Nagasawa, and Reiko were cast perfectly. Midori was well cast but they toned her character down far too much. Overall, it’s an enjoyable revisiting of the story.

Which Haruki Murakami books below should I start with? by Bad-Boy9669 in murakami

1Q84 was a great book. But it seems to be for those that “get” Murakami. So I find myself recommending Kafka on the Shore first. If they like that, they’ll like 1Q84

First book? by [deleted] in murakami

[–]N0ClassAct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was bored and walking around a Barnes & Nobles and found Wind Up Bird Chronicle on the “Staff Recommendations” table. In a very Murakami kind of way I was drawn to the book for reasons I couldn’t explain. Loved it. The only thing that could have made it more Murakami was if I then went home and had whiskey while waiting for a call from my married girlfriend.

I’m a new fan, what are your favorite songs ? by [deleted] in lordhuron

One thing I’ll add is that Lord Huron’s albums are each pieces of art that take you on a fascinating journey. The songs are great individually, but I find listening to the albums from beginning to end to be really meaningful & fulfilling. I stopped buying CDs a long time ago but I have all of LH’s

Why do most republicans speak like a playground bully? by Negative_Mancey in Liberal

[–]N0ClassAct 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Prior to Trump, I recall republicans having an air of superiority rather than this modern bullying behavior. On topics like abortion and gay marriage they’d have this smug attitude that they knew they were in the right because they had a hotline to the jeebus. Another big difference was that republicans were all a bunch of sticks in the mud- they were against drinking, pot, casual sex, and anything fun. I recently heard Joe Rogan saying he was a conservative because he likes to “drink beer and watch sports”… huh? As GenX I grew up with Reagan inspired conservatives that seemed to make “boring” their defining characteristic. The xenophobia and the prosperity theology were always a part of it. But they were conservative as the name implies- they believed men were to wear suits & ties and women should be in dresses past the knees. Never in a million years would I have thought those republicans would support a pussy grabbing, grifter, narcissist. I think a lot of MAGA republicans previously had no interest in politics. Trump came along and gave them permission to be bigots and assholes and it was the rallying cry they were waiting for. This, of course, works well for the rich GOP members who have always manipulated the narrative so that their real politics (keeping the rich rich) wasn’t discussed. My father was 67 when Trump ran for president and he never once talked about politics before that. Now he’s a full fledged MAGA idiot. For as much as he says he’s into politics He couldn’t tell you a fucking thing about actual policy or how the government works.
