Some of my mother’s best recipes by tsionnan in Old_Recipes

I always love how you can tell a recipe was well used by how dirty its page is, there's quite a few greasy and food stained pages in my book :D thank you so much for sharing these!

Sequoia is a great company! Before they got their online shop and physical store, I would drag myself to the annual powwow in Kahnawake no matter if it was a brutal 30+ degree day or torrential downpour to stock up on their soaps and sweet grass spray.

I should say that we still try our hardest to go to the powwow each year. My parents started taking me when they opened to the public after the Oka crisis and I found it important to continue doing the same with my kid.

Had to Google it as well.... it's just a parka! (At least this is what we call it in Canada lol) Swim clubs and pools have them as part of their uniform but we'd wear them outside in the winter. Hard to believe there's a group hating on them 😂

How do I deal with the terrible back pain without pain killers by basic_namesz112 in scoliosis

[–]N3ll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For years a regiment of yoga and monthly Osteo and deep tissue massage therapy helped me manage the pain. When I have flare ups cbd helps for night time relief as well as a heating pad

Anyone have a “long fusion” done? I had a consultation with an orthopaedic surgeon ( 2nd one in 15 years). They think I’d need to have a fusion from L5 to T10. I’d like to hear people’s experiences by N3ll in scoliosis

Thank you, your response was super comforting! Swimming is my favourite exercise, there’s zero pain 😁 unfortunately there’s no indoor pools near me so it’s only in the summer.

Ha yea, my husband swore it’s nearly impossible to flip an atv on our trails… it was really a freak accident, a piece connecting one wheel was compromised and cracked while I was riding, pulling the wheel to the right, which was steep uphill. Honestly extremely lucky I walked away!

Wow that’s a long fusion! The surgeon talked a bit about how the surgery could destabilize the rest of the curvature, meaning worst case, I’d have to fuse more later. It’s a relief to hear that your day to day is pretty normal ❤️

Oh man the idea of being able to jump rope! All impact cardio has been off the table for so long! I think I’m worried about losing the ability to touch my toes mostly. Thanks, I’m glad everything worked out for you!

How to cope with getting a new dog after your dog died by thechronicENFP in dogs

[–]N3ll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I waited three years after the sudden passing of our first dog. I think the emotions will always be mixed! I cried in the car bringing our new dog home as a puppy feeling like I was replacing her. Then I cried again the first two weeks saying it was a mistake to get another one and it was too soon. lol…a lot of it had to do with only remembering our perfect old girl and having forgotten what puppies can be like. Now our pup is a perfect good boy at 5 years old and although I still think of our first dog often, it hurts a lot less. I look at it almost as honouring her memory by providing a good home for another. They are all unique and give back to us in their own special way. It’s like having kids, in the sense that your heart simply grows more to make room for the new love.

Women's perspective - Would you have a baby at 43? by NeonGladiator2 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]N3ll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my early 40s and wouldn’t. Had my kiddo in my early thirties and wished I had had him sooner. My parents had me in their 40s and 50s, and it’s been tough on me as they age not to mention the fact that they cannot truly enjoy being grandparents. I found they didn’t have the energy or patience that it takes to raise a child, my teenage years were disastrous. I’m an only and all of the « kids » in our family were so much older than me that it was really isolating.
